It is hard to believe this is my last day of daily travels for 2022. I want to thank everyone who has been supporting us with monetary donations, supply donations, following our Facebook page and sharing our page with others. I am willing to do the footwork but without the help of 'our village', I would be so very limited as to what I could do. I am proud and grateful for the accomplishments of this year and look forward to the new year to come….I had a 9am appointment to meet someone at our storage units this morning so she could donate handmade pet jackets. I got there around 8:30am to drop off some Christmas pet items and load some pet food. At 9am, the donor called and told me she was running late. It would take her thirty minutes to get to me so I told her we needed to reschedule. It was already drizzling and I was hoping to make a few stops, before the expected rain came in. Thankfully, she agreed to meet next Sunday so we will have those jackets in the near future. When I left storage, I drove through Shamel Park looking for a dog and his companion. They were not there so I made a slight detour to Trader Joe's. I was looking for an item I have had trouble finding but they did not have it either. (I later ordered it online being that this was the third store I checked.) My next stop was at Ryan Bonominio Park. I expected to find a group of people there with their pets. Only one of the women was there with her dog but I also ran into a gentleman I had not seen in months. I was trying to get his dog spayed quite some time ago but he could not find a ride and then he disappeared from all of the places I had seen him. I was surprised to find him where I did but it gives me an opportunity to try again as soon as my appointments open back up. When I left Ryan Bonominio Park I drove through Fairmount Park. I did not see anyone with pets but as I was driving up Market Street, I noticed a dog I know and his companion in front of the park close to the 60 freeway offramp. I did a u-turn and went back to visit them. The dog had been sprayed by a skink so I didn't pet him but did make sure he had treats and other supplies. The companion told me about someone else who was in the parking lot of the park in a van. I drove to where the van was and found a gentleman with his two dogs and a third he has been caring for. I spent the rest of my time there with them. On my way home, I ran by the PO Box and then stopped at Rite-Aid to pick up some of my favorite Beyond Meat Hot and Spicy plant-based jerky. I happened to walk up an aisle with Christmas Clearance items and found a large number of Christmas pet sweaters and a few toys. I picked up about 9 sweaters and some toys for under $40.00. I had all I could do to stop myself from buying all of it but donations were down a little this year so I have tried extra hard to be mindful of my spending. I bought Christmas stocking filled with dog toys on Clearance as well so I have a good head start on next year. If some of our donors find bargains too, we will have a great holiday season in 2023!... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, rain ponchos, canned ravioli, peanut butter cracker packs, beef sticks, cookie packs, pretzel and cheese packs, cracker and cheese packs, canned soup, cup of noodles, Max and Neo fleece blanket, pet jackets, individual bags of dog treats, wet dog food, 2 small bags of dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for dogs, squeaky pet toy, collapsible pet dish, large collar and leash set, medium and large stainless steel pet bowls, squeaky tennis balls, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
Last night we put 'Solo' and his companion in a motel room, thanks to the 'Home Street Home' project by Animal Victory. I had hoped to get over there for a visit but I never made it. I did go to the Eastside where I stopped on Massachusetts Avenue near the Path of Life Community Shelter. I visited with five pets and gave their companions needed supplies. When I left that location, I drove over to Hunter Park where I visited with two more pets and gave their companion needed supplies. I also drove around the Eastside for a bit to look for other people with pets but I did not find any so I decided to run some personal errands, check our PO Box and then go home... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, socks, rain ponchos, canned ravioli, peanut butter cracker packs, beef sticks, cookie packs, pretzel and cheese packs, cracker and cheese packs, Max and Neo small dog collar, Max and Neo fleece blanket, pet jacket, individual bags of dog treats, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, 3 small bags of dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for dogs, plush squeaky pet toy, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
I baked a batch of cookies this morning and then made a trip to the store for more ingredients, before I ventured out on my daily travels. I went out for a second time, after I stopped at my house to take the dog out for a few minutes and unpacked what I bought. It was raining on and off so I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do, besides making a stop at the motel. I checked on the two dogs that received 'the works' yesterday as well as the dog that was treated by the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. The dog attack caused him to need fifteen stitches. I am so grateful he was able to get help and that the wound did not become infected. The dog was happy and playful today and that was all due to an AC Officer out in Perris, Sgt. Jason Sanders and Ryan Long. All of the dogs were able to spend two nights in the motel to recuperate, thanks to the 'Home Street Home' project by Animal Victory. It truly does Take A Village. When I left the motel, I decided to get on the freeway and head over to Costco. I rarely go there, due to the crowds, but I got a parking place right away and was in and out just as quickly. In my way home, I checked the PO Box and topped off my fuel tank. I got back home by about 11:30. I am still trying to restrict my time on the streets to two or three hours, even though my dog seems to be doing so much better. All he really has is me right now and I need to give him as much love and attention as possible, while still keeping up with my charity work... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, socks, rain ponchos, canned ravioli, cup of noodles, peanut butter cracker packs, beef sticks, cookie packs, pretzel and cheese packs, cracker and cheese packs, Max and Neo large dog collar, wet dog food, wet puppy food, 30-pound bag of puppy food, Inaba Churus for dogs, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
This month was a bit slow but we still provided 'the works' for 17 pets. In 2022 we provided 'the works' for 262 pets. I always hope to do more but I am very thankful for what was accomplished….It was non-stop, for about three hours this morning. It all started at the Riverside County Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. I was unable tor each the companions of the dogs that were supposed to be spayed and neutered so I had someone bring her dog in just in case. That turned out to be a good thing because neither of the dogs were there. I did run into a gentleman who camped out in the parking lot with his dog. I was told the dog was attacked by another dog and something was set up for him to get sutured. However, they had no record there of this dog coming in. I got on the phone and called Sgt. Jason Sanders. He is always my 'go to' person if I need to find the right people for help. He made some phone calls and we got it all straightened out. While we were waiting for him to come out and get the dog, I received a call from the companion of one of the dog's that had not shown up for his appointment. He said he could make it in about twenty minutes so I waited. While I was waiting, I spent time with the injured dog and his companion. I gave them a few things and added them to my list for the motel. I wanted to be sure the dog had somewhere dry and comfortable to go. After I got the second dog checked in, I went home to give my dog a potty break and then headed back out to Fairmount Park in order to meet a couple and their three dogs. They have been housed for a few years but we still make time for visits. The dogs are always so happy to see me and the feeling is mutual. My next stop was the clinic at Mary S. Roberts so I could meet someone with two kittens that needed their vaccinations started and to meet a new two-week-old kitten that was being bottle fed. Before I went in, I called Van Buren Animal Hospital to check on the blood work results for my 15-year-old dog 'Sammy'. He had a bit of a kidney issue and thyroid but nothing that requires medication right now so I am grateful. He is also healthy enough to be put under to get his teeth cleaned. While I was waiting, I received a call from the companion of the other dog that was supposed to show up for an earlier spay appointment. He was two hours late and I had already filled the appointment so he had to leave. The person bringing the kittens informed me that they were sick so we could not start their vaccinations but since I needed to run back to Riverside County Animal Services for something, I had her meet me there so she could get needed supplies. I met the newest bottle baby and visited with her dog. From there I went to our PO Box where I was very thankful to find two donation checks. Afterwards, I stopped to get some fuel and then headed home. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, McDonald's gift cards, ARCO fuel cards, Max and Neo fleece blanket, Max and Neo dog leash, collapsible toy boxes, large collar, 2 nursing bottle kits, KMR1, wet kitten food, wet cat food, wet dog food, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu Pops for cats, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Clavimox, chicken jerky treats, small Kong squeaky balls, bag of squeaky balls, plush squeaky dog toys, cat toys, doggie rope toy, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
At 8am, I arrived at Van Buren Animal Hospital to have bloodwork done on my 15-year-old dog 'Sammy'. This was being done to make sure he is in good enough health to be put under anesthesia and have his teeth cleaned as well as to find out if any of his recent behavior was due to a physical issue or grief from losing his best friend. After the vet visit, I took him home and then I went back out. I was looking forward to this morning, because I thought I was going to have company. Christine Ramirez volunteered to ride with me but at the last-minute plans changed and I wound up riding alone. My main focus was going to the motel and checking in on the seven pets that spent the night in rooms, thanks to the 'Home Street Home' project by Animal Victory. Before I left the motel, I texted my daughter to see if she was going to be home for a while. I had given her funds to purchase 'Clearance' Christmas toys and miscellaneous items from PetSmart. She was home, so I got on the freeway and drove to the Eastside where she lives. After I put the items in my vehicle, I got back on the freeway and drove out to our storage units. I put everything in the Christmas tubs, loaded pet supplies and waters. From there I made a stop at Trader Joe's, before going to our PO Box. There was nothing there but I did drop off some home made cookies for the employees and called it a day... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Burger King gift cards, socks, rain ponchos, peanut butter cracker packs, pretzel sticks with cheese, crackers with cheese, beef sticks, cookie packs, cup of noodles, collapsible pet dish, Inaba Churu Bites for dogs, Inaba Churu Pops for cats, wet cat food, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats for dogs, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks Christmas cat toys and plush squeaky Christmas dog toys were shared.
Not everyone who I reserved rooms for was able to make it to the motel last night but we did have three cats and four dogs in rooms with their companions. Others will be checking in tonight and more may be using their rooms later in the week when there is chance of rain. Those who did have a room were very grateful for the break. I did not plan on making any other stops today but I did make one more, after a quick run into the grocery store. I had to drive by an area where I was told I might find 'Honey Girl' and her companion so I decided to go look for them. They were right where someone said they would be so I paid them a visit too, before heading home... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, socks, rain ponchos, peanut butter cracker packs, pretzel sticks with cheese, crackers with cheese, beef sticks, cookie packs, cup of noodles, Inaba Churu Pops for cats, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba tuna fillets, chicken jerky treats for dogs, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks Christmas cat toys and plush squeaky Christmas dog toys were shared.
Christmas is not a holiday my family celebrates, but I always enjoy going out on the streets to spread a little holiday joy. Until my dog seems like his 'old' self again, I am going to limit my daily travel time to two and a half hours or less. I have to make sure that I give my own dog the kind of love and attention I give on the streets. When there were two or more dogs in the house, it did not seem as important for me to be home as much as I feel I need to now. That being said, I can get quite a bit done in a couple of hours so I will do my best to make that happen. As far as this morning went, I had plans to meet with a woman who has two puppies. That meeting was set for an area near Jurupa and Van Buren. After that, I was supposed to meet other pets and their companions at a river bottom outlet in and industrial area of Jurupa Valley. When I arrived at the first stop, there were other people with pets and they wanted to know if I could assist them with spaying/neutering and supplies. I knew that would make me run behind on getting to the second stop so I texted someone and said to give me an extra half an hour. I made it to both places, I visited with six pets and distributed supplies for them and some cats that were unable to come up from the river bottom. I now have two pets scheduled for spay and neuter on Wednesday and two for the following week. The clinic at Mary S Roberts is closed to me for surgery, for the next two weeks. That only left me with 2 appointments each week at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. If all goes as planned, they are now full. I will soon be able to total of the surgeries this year and see how many we were able to do. I know we had a few very busy months and I am pretty sure we surpassed all totals from the past... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, rain ponchos, peanut butter cracker packs, pretzel sticks with cheese, crackers with cheese, beef sticks, cookie packs, cup of noodles, 2 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, 3 Max and Neo fleece blankets, Christmas pet scarves, Christmas pet bandana, dog jackets, small Christmas dog sweater, Max and Neo medium/large dog collar, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 3-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company Inaba tuna fillets, wet cat food, Inaba Chur Pops for cats, individual bags of dog treats, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and plush squeaky Christmas dog toys were shared.
Before I stopped to visit withs any pet this morning, I went to our storage units to pick up pet food and a couple cases of water. I planned to go tomorrow morning but remembered they would be closed so I got it handled today. When I left storage, I drove to Hunter Park. I visited with four pets, distributed supplies and got more information for people who would like to take me up on our offer for a motel room on Christmas. From there I went to two other locations on the Eastside where I visited with three more pets, distributed supplies and shared the 40th and last Animal Victory holiday love bag for 2022. I was going to call in the motel reservations when I got back home but I thought it would be easier for the motel and myself if I went to do it in person. I got on the freeway and drove out to the motel to do that. When I left the motel, I checked our PO Box and then went home. My only remaining dog was having issues last night and I felt the need to limit my time away. I was still able to accomplish everything on my 'to do' list so it worked out just fine. Tomorrow is Christmas, and because it is a holiday my family does not celebrate, I am free to do my 'daily travels'. I have been doing this for years. Sometimes it turns out to be a busy day and other times there is not much for me to do but I always make the effort. I already made arrangements to meet with a few people and their pets so we shall see how that goes... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, the remainder of our Animal Victory holiday love bags, canned ravioli, peanut butter cracker packs, pretzel sticks with cheese, crackers with cheese, beef sticks, cookie packs, 3 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, collapsible pet dish, Max and Neo fleece blanket, small fleece blanket, Inaba tuna fillets, kabob chew sticks and small Kong squeaky ball were shared.
I started my morning with a little baking and then went to the Eastside, where I made two stops. The first was Bobby Bonds Park where I visited with and distributed supplies for three pets. The second was on Massachusetts in front of the Path of Life Community Shelter. Most of the pets I visited are staying in the kennels that are located on the same property where people have beds in a variety of programs there. I visited with thirteen pets at that location and distributed supplies. I did not get to all of the pets but did spend time with the majority of them. As I was getting ready to leave, someone new showed up and I noticed her dog was not neutered. I gave him a few treats, water and a collapsible dish. I gave her my card and explained what it is my organization does. I did not take any photos but he was a beautiful dog and I hope she accepts my help. When I was done speaking to her, I left and headed out to Jurupa Valley. I dropped some baked goods off for my friend Gail at Room 8 Memorial Cat Foundation, went to our PO Box, ran home to give me dog a quick potty break and then met a friend for lunch. The rest of the day was spent doing editing photos for social media, getting everything posted, taking phone calls discussing or setting up future spay/neuter appointments and making a list for people who are going to spend a night in the motel on Christmas, thanks to Animal Victory's 'Home Street Home' project... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, large bag of recyclables, Animal Victory holiday love bags, pet jacket, Pet Christmas tees, peanut butter cracker packs, pretzel sticks with cheese, crackers with cheese, beef sticks, cookie packs, case of cup of noodles, 4 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, collapsible pet dish, multiple sizes of stainless steel pet dishes, Max and Neo fleece blanket, small fleece blanket, Max and Neo medium dog collar, Max and Neo leash, small collar and leash set, medium collar and leash set, individual bags of dog treats, Inaba tune fillets, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks, small Kong squeaky ball and Christmas dog toys were shared.
I had a personal appointment this morning but made sure to get over to the motel first. I dropped off some baked goods for the staff and then checked on the pets that had their 'spay day' yesterday. After my appointment, I went to our PO Box to pick up a package and then the grocery store to purchase more ingredients to continue baking a few more sugar free breads and cookies for friends... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, socks, beanies, peanut butter cracker packs, pretzel sticks with cheese, crackers with cheese, beef sticks, small bag of dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and Christmas dog toys were shared.
I needed to go to our storage units but the gate access is not available until 6am so I got a little baking done first. After baking and cleaning up, it was time to get going. When I got home from that trip, I unloaded the supplies I picked up and stocked it with what I needed for today's travels. I was scheduled to meet a couple of people and their pets at one of the river bottom outlets so I headed that way. As soon as I arrived, I received a text telling me one of the people was sick so I waited for the other person and his dog. They were a no show. I was disappointed that my time and fuel were wasted but decided to drive to a couple of other places and look for people with pets there. On my way, I pulled in to a parking lot to write myself a note and I noticed a couple of dogs that looked very familiar. I parked and got out to visit. There happened to be a third dog and I knew him as well. I lost track of him and his companions awhile back so I was happy to see them. I had not seen any of the three dogs in quite some time. After the visit, I distributed needed supplies and got back in my vehicle to drive to Fairmount Park. I had one person meeting me there with her dog and cats. While I was with them, someone came up and asked me to check a dog for a chip. The dog was found over a month ago on top of Mt. Rubidoux. The woman said she put him on Pawboost or Pet Finder (I can't recall which). She also put him on some lost and found pages but nobody has claimed him. I told her I would provide him with the works after I posted him and sent something to one of my contacts at the shelter. They always say the dog is yours if you have had it for 30 days but I still want to attempt it myself. That was the last pet I spent time with today. The only other thing I did was go to the PO Box and pick up a couple of donation packages... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags, Christmas pet sweater, Christmas cat toys, Christmas head bands, Inaba tuna fillets, Max and Neo Fleece, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, small bag of dog food, 20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for dogs, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and chicken jerky treats for dogs were shared.
I was asked to meet a group of people this morning, at a location I was unfamiliar with. I nearly forgot about it until I drove up Massachusetts on the Eastside but I just drove out to where I was told they would be. When I got there, I did not see anyone, so I left. I called one of the companion's as I was driving away and he gave me directions again. I basically drove in a big circle and wound up back to where I had started. This group was in a field that you could not see from the street. I had to drive on the dirt to get to them. I do not normally go anywhere that someone cannot see my car from the street but I knew three of the people there and felt it was safe. When I arrived, I visited with four dogs I have provided services for, met a new dog and a new puppy. I was told there was one more dog there but the tent was pretty far from where I parked and the companion of that dog was sleeping anyway. I planned to go back to Massachusetts Avenue but by the time I was done, I had to leave to make it to a counseling appointment. Now that I know where this group is, I will try to get over there every week or so. I'm just glad I made it today and was able to visit some special pets and distribute needed supplies... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags, Christmas pet sweater, Christmas pet tee, Christmas pet scarf, Inaba tuna fillets, Max and Neo Fleece, Max and Neo dog collar, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, small bag of dog food, 2-20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for dogs, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and chicken jerky treats for dogs were shared.
Tonight is the first night of my holiday. Even though there will only be four of us here for dinner, I need time to finish preparing and cooking so I decided to just go out for about an hour this morning. Both stops were in Jurupa Valley. One was near Agate Park and the other near Pacific Avenue. I visited two dogs and two cats at the first stop and one more dog at the second. I was able to distribute more Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags as well as needed supplies... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba Chicken fillets. Max and Neo Fleece, wet dog food, small bag of dog, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu pops for cats, Christmas cat toys, bully sticks and chicken jerky treats for dogs were shared.
When I left the house this morning, I knew I was only going to have a couple of hours to visit pets but no idea how difficult that was going to be. The only 'scheduled' visit I had was to meet with the companion of dog and cat. She was on time and I was back on the road within half an hour. Unfortunately, the next hour or so turned out to be a waste of time and fuel. I drove to four different locations thinking I would find people with pets but none were around. Because I had a couple of friends coming to my home to pick up homemade soup and baked goods, I stopped searching. I went to our PO Box, where I picked up a donation and then headed home. My children will be here tomorrow night to celebrate the first night of Chanukah. I will have already cooked and baked most of what I am serving but still have plenty to do. That means I will only be out for a short time again tomorrow. I will be out making an effort to catch up with a few people and their pets. Even if I am unable to spend as much time out there as I would like to, I know that some time is better than none and I do my best to stick with that... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba Twins for dogs, wet dog food, small bag of dog, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu pops for cats, kabob chew sticks, Christmas cat toys, Christmas pet sweater and chicken jerky treats for dogs were shared.
Everything was going smoothly this morning until I got to my second stop on the Eastside. While I was there, I received notifications that my power was out and would be restored by 6:30pm. That put my head in a tailspin and I knew I needed to get home to figure out where and how I could do some cooking for Sunday night's dinner. I made a quick stop at our PO Box and then headed home…Last night, I got a 'jump' on the fairly long process of making soup for my holiday. This morning I got up early and had it simmering for a few more hours. I was going to continue with it when I got in at lunch time so I could get it finished before I went to bed. The pot I cook in holds so many gallons that I can barely life it off the stove so I like to get it done and then divide it into smaller pots and the containers that will be shared with family and friends. I knew I could wait to do more cooking tomorrow but I really needed to get the soup done today. I was so surprised, when I arrived home to find out my power was still on and it had not been off. (I can always tell if it has been by the blinking digital clocks!). Not sure why SCE had to send me multiple emails and phone calls to let me know my power was off and should be restored by 6:30pm, but I am thankful for the error messages! Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Twins for dogs, wet dog food, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for dogs, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks, small leash, Max and Neo medium leash, Max and Neo fleece blanket, Christmas pet sweaters and chicken jerky treats for dogs were shared.
Today, I spent a couple of hours at the Motel6 in Jurupa Valley. I visited some of yesterday's spay/neuter recipients as well as a few others. All but one received a Holiday Love Bag. He will get his once we neuter him. When I left the motel, I went to the Jurupa Valley City Hall to complete my 2023 Business Registration. They changed a few things this past year so it was not completed, even with the help of an employee. After an hour, I had to take it home so I could do some online research to complete one of the sections. The morning turned into afternoon and I needed to get home. I will have to limit my time to two or three hour for the next three days so I can accomplish what I need to for my holiday that starts on Sunday night. Even though there will only be four or five of us here, I like to make sure there are plenty of leftovers and I am also cooking/baking for four or five more as well. I started shopping and preparing over this past week. I have most of my baking done but will have to do more when there is room in the freezer to put it. Tomorrow, I will be making my vegetarian matzah ball soup. I usually start in the early morning, turn the fire off while I go out on the streets for a couple of hours and then the rest of the day will be spent making sure the broth is as good as I can get it and that there are many matzah balls to share... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags, peanut butter cracker packs, pretzel/cheese snacks, crackers/cheese snacks, beef sticks, socks, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churu Pops for cats. 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, plush squeaky Christmas pet toys and chicken jerky treats for dogs were shared.
At 7am I received a call from one of the people who was supposed to get her cat spayed today. The woman was sick and said she had to cancel. There was no way I could fill the appointment on such notice so I had to settle for the other five that were coming in. I left the house a little before 7:30am and it was 38 degrees outside. I do not know how the unhoused are able to endure these temperatures and I am grateful for those who showed up today. I started the morning at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic with one female cat and a female dog. The dog belongs to a Veteran. She had a litter six weeks ago but the puppies have mostly been eating solid food so I said we would get her spayed. It was only 38 degrees outside so I went back home for thirty minutes to 'thaw out'. My second trip was made to the Mary S Robert's Pet Adoption Center spay/neuter clinic. There were supposed to be four cats but due to the one that had to cancel, there were just three. Two males and their mama. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter."
When I left the house this morning, it was only 45 degrees but the rain was gone and the sun was shining. I was grateful that I would finally have an opportunity to start sharing the Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags. The plan was to go to one of the river bottom outlets where people were going to come out in intervals so there was no fighting between their pets. Not everybody made it today but I was able to visit with a total of five. I started with two, then one, then another and finally one more. They all received needed supplies as well as Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags. In order to be sure Animal Victory's donors get a chance to see what is being done with their donations, I made sure to do a video clip and photo of each pet. It was more time consuming than what I normally do but I want the donors to be happy with the results of their generosity. Tomorrow, some of the Animal Victory funds from the 'Home Street Home' project will go toward the spaying/neutering of one or more cats. The bags are filled with items for people and their dogs but we also cater to cats. Anytime a bag is given to a cat, I will be sure to give their companion treats and toys that are suitable. I tend to see more dogs than cats but our services are for both and both will receive some holiday love. Truth be told, the love is given all year long but this just adds a little bit extra to that!..When I left that location, I stopped by the PO Box and then went to get fuel. While I was there a gentleman asked if I was Loir the Dog Lady. I said my name is Lori and that they call me the dog lady. He said he is living in his car and that his female pit bull needs spayed. I told him I was full this week but would be happy to schedule her for the 21st. I just never know where I will be when the need for help presents itself. I do know, I will always do my best to meet that need... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Animal Victory Holiday Love Bags, Max and Neo fleece blankets, large tarp, peanut butter pet biscuits, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba Churus for dogs, 3-20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 2 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, bully sticks, large pet jacket, small pet jacket, Christmas pet outfit, Christmas pet bandana, Christmas headbands, chicken jerky treats and a small leash were shared.
I had every intention of starting to share these bags today but the weather made it impossible. I can't recall the last time I missed a day on the streets due to rain but when it doesn't let up nobody wants to be in it with their pets. The only thing I went out and did today for Taking It To The Streets with Lori and Shira was meet Christine Langdon at our storage units. She picked up and delivered our 570 pounds cat/dog food donation from the Star Milling Company. Other than that, all plans were put on hold until tomorrow when it will still be cold but without the rain... Tonight, I would like to say Thank You to Animal Victory for a third donation to be used for the 'Home Street Home' holiday gift bag project. This will include reserving a few motel rooms as well as taking care of the 'the works' for some of the pets on our schedule. We appreciate their Generosity, Ongoing Support and including us for a third consecutive year.
With the exception of a forty-five-minute run to and from our storage units, I spent the entire day indoors working on the 'Home Street Home' holiday love bags I am doing with AnimalVictory.org. I started around 6am and finished around 3pm. I had to remove price tags and packaging and then fill 40 bags with the items purchased for them. Those included Beanies, Gloves, Socks, Hand and Toe Warmers, Body Wipes, Subway Gift Cards, Candy Canes, Beef and Cheese Sticks, Peanut Butter Cracker Packs, Large Sugar Cookies in Christmas Tins, Stainless Steel Pet Bowls, Bags of Dog Treats, Large Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits and the 2022 Holiday Plush Animals from Petsmart. If it is not raining tomorrow, I will begin sharing them. If we receive more funds from this project, we will reserve a few motel rooms and/or spay/neuter more pets... I was supposed to go to one of the river bottom outlets this morning. The plan was to meet one group with their four dogs first. When we were done, there was supposed to be another group coming. They can't all meet me together, because some of the dogs do not get along with each other. All of our plans fell through with the weather. I was still willing to go and meet people but they were told they might need to evacuate if the rain continued so we decided against it. Everyone was having issues with their tarps and tents anyway. They said all of their belongings were wet and they did not want to add to the mess with bags of pet food and other supplies. We rescheduled for Tuesday. Weather is supposed to be ok then.
Until one of my dog's health begins to show more improvement or it is clear we have to let her go, I am limiting myself to two-hour intervals while doing my daily travels. I did that this morning on the Eastside of Riverside. I stopped on Massachusetts in front of the Path of Life Community Shelter and went to Hunter Park. When I left the second location, I went home to give the dogs a potty break and see how my 'Stella' was doing. I stayed home for a bit and then went to our PO Box to pick up a donation and to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services to try and settle our bill from Wednesday's visit. There were some issues getting the payment done while I was there so they agreed to call this afternoon. That is normally how we make the payments but since they were clearly running behind, I was trying to take care of it in person. It did not work out but I felt better trying. The rest of my day was spent at home caring for my own pets. Our last two pets got very ill before we had to say good by to them and they were about the same age as the two dogs that are still here. Both are 15. These two have had to have teeth pulled and one of them threw his back out twice the first few years we had him but they have been otherwise healthy. Dealing with a 5-pound dog that presently has a multitude of health issues is really hard to deal with. I always hope I am making the right decisions... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, large bag of recyclables, Inaba Churus for dogs, 2 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Churu Twins for dogs, bully stick, kabob chew sticks, Christmas pet toys and a small Kong squeaky tennis ball were shared.
I did some baking this morning and was about ready to leave when my little 'Stella' threw up all over the pet beds in the living room. I put one of the beds in the washer and got the one she often likes to use in the guest room. I stayed home until the first bed was in the dryer and I could get the second one in the washer. I did not intend to do much this morning anyway, because I wasn't sure how one of my dog's was going to be. The only plan I had was to stop at the motel where I could check on one of the pets that was spayed yesterday, go to second room to visit one dog and discuss another that needs neutered. I was able to check on the dog that was spayed. She also had thirteen teeth pulled thanks to Feeding Pets Of The Homeless so I am grateful we were able to make her more comfortable for a couple of nights. I did not see the male dog that needs neutered but I did visit with a dog we recently spayed and her feline brother. I tried to make one last stop at another location in Jurupa Valley. I called first and his companion was not with the dog but somebody else was supposed to be. However, when I arrived there was no sign of the dog or the person who I was told would be there so I decided to call it a day. Hoping to be more productive tomorrow... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Inaba Churu Pops for cats, Christmas cat toys, small cat harness with leash, pet elf shirt, Christmas pet scarves, wet cat food, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu pops for cats and a small Kong squeaky tennis ball were shared.
Because I was scheduled for jury duty this week, I wasn't sure how to plan for spaying and neutering. I told whoever was scheduled that if I had to go in, we would reschedule for the following week. What I did not know was that if I was to actually serve on a jury, it would be a three-week trial. That was not going to work for me financially and I was excused. This left me scrambling to get the rest of the appointments filled. That went on until about 7pm. I had one dog at Van Buren Animal Hospital who was also there because Feeding Pets Of The Homeless was taking care of a dental issue. I had one dog and one cat for Riverside County Animal Services spay/neuter clinic and two dogs and two cats for the Mary S Roberts spay/neuter clinic. By 7am I received a text telling me someone had a flat tire and probably would not make it. The appointment was for a female dog and I substituted it for a cat that needed neutered. There was miscommunication with another person so they did not show up at animal services at 7:45am. After multiple phone calls and texts, we resolved the issue. I ran home to tend to my 15-year-old dogs, one of which was just diagnosed with pancreatitis, diabetes and low thyroid. I was unaware of her prognosis until a little after 8am. This meant I needed to go back to the vet's office to pick up a variety of meds and get a prescription for wet dog food. When I left home this time, I went back to animal services to check in the dog that was late and then I headed to Mary S Roberts. Once all of the paperwork was filled out for the dog and three cats, I left so I could pick up my dog's meds and prescription. I want to thank Actors and Others for Animals for their pledge that helped lower the cost for four of the surgeries being done today….As soon as I got the bloodwork tests results for my dog the day became more stressful but I am grateful to know what it is we are dealing with so I can help her as much as possible. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, ARCO fuel cards, Inaba Churu Pops for cats, wet cat food, Christmas cat toys and a 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company were shared.
I limited this morning's travels to one location today. I went to the Massachusetts on the Eastside to visit with a few pets and meet a new one that needs emergency dental care. I had her companion call Feeding Pets Of The Homeless while I was there and if all goes well, the dog will get the help she needs in the very near future. My little 'Stella' is still having a very hard time getting around and her appetite is not good either. I have an appointment tomorrow at Van Buren Animal Hospital and I am hoping whatever is going on can be improved. If not, then my daughter will be with me to do what is best for her but I am staying positive right now... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Christmas 'head bands', Christmas pet scarves, Inaba Twins for dogs, Churus for dogs, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and chicken jerky treats were shared.
I drove through Fairmount Park on my way to another location but there was nobody with pets at the park. I wasn't far from the park when I noticed a group of people in an area known as 'the flats'. I had to drive a bit further so I could turn around and go back. I visited with one pet and gave my card to someone whose friend wants their dog spayed. When we were done, I drove up to another river bottom outlet in an industrial area. There were some motor homes on the street but nobody seemed to be awake. I drove a few more miles and got on the freeway so I could head over another area of Jurupa Valley. Two of the places I planned on stopping did not work out, because the companions were sleeping so I continued driving until I reached another family living in their motor home. They were awake and so were their pets. That was my final stop. Because one of my dogs is still having trouble walking, I was not comfortable leaving the house for more than a couple of hours again today. I do not have to report for jury duty tomorrow but I am on 'standby' so I don't know what things will look like after tomorrow. I call tomorrow and try to get a vet appointment, in hopes that I will be home so I will be able to take her in. I am not going to any emergency pet hospital for a number of reasons. She is eating on and off which is totally normal. I make sure to carry her to water every so often so she doesn't get dehydrated. Other than that, I make sure she has a comfy place to rest... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, hand and toe warmers, body wipes, Christmas 'head bands', Christmas plush squeaky dog toys, wet dog food, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu pope for cats, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, bully sticks and chicken jerky treats were shared.
One of my dogs has been showing signs of a possible stroke, seizure or vestibular disease. I decided to do some baking this morning and considered going out a little later so I could monitor her for a bit. When I was done baking, I fed both dogs. She did not eat all of it at first but then did finish it after they went outside for a potty break. I have been carrying her when she doesn't seem able to walk. We went back and forth between her walking fairly well or just standing there waiting for me to carry her. Around 9:30, she walked up the doggie steps to the sofa and I decided to go out for a couple of hours. I drove through Fairmount Park but did not see anyone with pets so I headed to Hunter Park on the Eastside. I visited with three dogs there and planned on driving out to Jurupa Valley to meet with the woman with our latest bottle babies but she could not find a ride so I stayed on the Eastside and visited with a couple more dogs. When I left that location, I got on the freeway, got off the freeway for fuel in Jurupa Valley and drove a couple miles away to where someone stays in a motor home with her dog. Nobody was around so I went to our PO Box and then home. Other than the fact that my dog in crisis decided to use my office floor as her potty area, she seemed ok. She still goes back and forth between walking rather well to not being able to keep her balance but I am hoping she continues to improve. Both dogs are 15 and I hope to have a few more quality years with them... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, flavor packets for waters, rain poncho, hand and toe warmers, body wipes, Christmas 'head bands', Christmas pet scarves, Christmas plush squeaky dog toys, medium squeaky ball, Inaba twins for dogs, wet dog food, small bag of dog food, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, bully sticks, kabob chew sticks and chicken jerky treats were shared.
My morning was spent on the Eastside. I made a couple of stops on Massachusetts, one to Hunter Park and then one on University near Victoria Avenue. I visited with eight pets and distributed needed supplies. When I left the Eastside, I got on the freeway so I could go to our storage units to search through anything we might have from last year's Christmas Clearance and to get more waters and pet food. From there I stopped at Foster Army Animal Rescue's Thrift Store. I was meeting someone there to pick up a donation of what was mostly wet cat food. That is something we were having trouble keeping up with so I was grateful to replenish my supply. I was going to stop at the PO Box afterwards but I decided to go home and unload everything instead. Once that was done, I went back out and the PO Box and found a package I was expecting. My final stop was at the store to get a few items, in case I decided to do more baking this week-end... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, rain ponchos, small bags of dog food, hand and toe warmers, body wipes, fleece blanket, pet jacket, Christmas 'head bands', Christmas plush squeaky dog toys, medium squeaky ball, Inaba twins for dogs, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, small Kong squeaky ball, bully sticks, bully slices, kabob chew sticks and chicken jerky treats were shared.
Someone was doing some work at my house today so I had about three hours to do whatever I needed to get done. I stopped at Dollar Tree and the 99 cent Store to pick up Christmas head bands that could be put on the dogs. We have a few Christmas toys and scarves from last year but most of the sweaters and jackets are gone. I wanted to be sure I had something to make the pets look festive and this was all I could do for now. After I left the store(s), I went to Mary S. Roberts to pay the invoice from yesterday. From there, I drove towards downtown Riverside, making a stop near Ryan Bonominio Park. I drove through Fairmount Park and a few other locations but did not find anyone with pets. I made a call to someone who lives in the river bottom between Riverside and Rialto. I had supplies I thought she could use for her dogs and cats. She met me next to a field out there and she had two of her dogs with her. I visited for a bit and then we loaded the supplies. I drove through Fairmount one more time but still did not find anyone. I was running out of time, so I just headed to our PO Box in Jurupa Valley and called it a day... Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, hand and toe warmers, body wipes, Max and Neo fleece blanket, Christmas 'head bands', doggie waste bags with flashlight leash clip, pet jersey jackets, Christmas cat toys, Christmas plush squeaky dog toys, Tiller Tugs double tug toy, Inaba twins for dogs, wet dog food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, large bag of puppy food, wet cat food, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu pops for cats, Inaba tuna fillets, bully sticks and chicken jerky treats were shared.
