I went out early this morning to get fuel. As I was getting ready to pull into the gas station, I saw a someone with two dogs at the Jack In The Box. I was actually looking for them, because one of the dog's needs 'the works'. I wanted to know if their companion still wanted an appointment for this Wednesday. He said he did. His phone has not been working but I took down his info. I spent a little time visiting and gave them a few supplies, before getting fuel and returning home. I went back out for my daily travels a short time after that. There are a couple of dogs on the Eastside that can only be visited on Sundays, so I went there first. We visited and I provided supplies. I drove around for a bit looking for another dog and his companion but they were not around, so I headed towards Agate Park in Jurupa Valley. I drove through Rubidoux, in my way, but did not see anyone with pets. When I got to Jurupa Valley, I visited with the four dogs there and provided supplies for them as well as the cats. From there, I made a stop for some produce and then went home. It was already close to 90 degrees at 11:30am and I did not feel like staying out any longer... Bottled waters, bubbles, chicken jerky treats, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, buffalo tendons, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba chicken stew, Inaba Churu Pops, Inaba Twins for cats, small bag of senior dog food, small bag of small bites dog food for small dogs, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, wet puppy food, kabob chew sticks, Tiller Tugs collar and Tiller Tugs leash were shared.
I only made one stop this morning and that was one I usually do weekly at an encampment in Grand Terrace. I visited with seven pets and provided supplies. I also spoke to a couple of people about scheduling 'the works' for their pets. When I left that location, I drove home briefly and then went to our PO Box before meeting a friend for lunch... Bottled waters, body wipes, bubbles, small Max and Neo dog collar, large Max and Neo dog collar, collapsible pet dish, chicken jerky treats, wet puppy food, wet dog food, small bag of senior dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba chicken stew, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churus Bites, buffalo tendons, collagen sticks with chicken wrap, kabob chew sticks and a variety of Tiller Tugs tug and squeaky tug toys were shared.
I started the morning on the Eastside at the Path of Life Community Shelter. While I was there, I visited with four dogs and provided supplies. I also discussed 'the works' with the companion of a dog I just met today. When I left that location, I was headed over to Fairmount Park. I received a package from Tiller Tugs and was hoping to give collars and leashes to a couple of dogs. While on my way, I spotted a dog I met last week so I pulled over to visit and talk to his companion. That dog is in need of 'the works' and I reminded her that there is no reason to wait to get this done. After our visit, I drove through Fairmount Park. I could not find anyone there with pets so I drove around Jurupa Valley for a bit. I did not have any luck with that either so I ran a couple of personal errands and called it a day... Bottled waters, chicken jerkytreats, wet dog food, small bag of senior dog food, k9 glucosamine with chondroitin chews, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba chicken fillets, buffalo tendons, collagen sticks with chicken wrap, peanut butter chew sticks and kabob chew sticks were shared.
We had a few no shows, in June. It was both frustrating and a relief. The frustration comes from wasting my time and appointments. The relief comes from not having to worry as much about the financial aspect of it... When all was said and done, we provided 'the works' for 16 pets this month. The numbers were evenly distributed between males and females. We had a total of 10 dogs; 5 females and 5 males. We had a total of 6 cats; 3 females and 3 males. I am grateful for each and every pet we are able to provide these services for. I am also grateful to Actors and Others for Animals who give us pledges to help with the cost at one of the clinics we use as well. I am also grateful to Riverside County Department of Animal Services Healthy Pet Zone Fund. They are covering 'the works' for one pet per week, as long as the person/pet are within the stipulated zip codes. If we do not use the grant one week, we can carry it over to another. The goal is for them to cover the cost of 52 pets this year. That is a huge help to us! Now on to today... I went to the motel this morning to check on one of the pets that got 'the works' yesterday and to pick up a carrier I let someone borrow. While I was there, I visited with two pets and provided a few supplies. When I left the motel, I drove to a dirt parking lot, on Market Street, near Adams Motorsports Park. A gentleman who stays nearby in the river bottom was in need of food for his dogs so we agreed to meet somewhere he could walk to. He brought a both dogs and a wagon to carry the supplies back to his camp. From there, I drove around Rubidoux and a couple of other areas in Jurupa Valley. I did not find anyone with pets. Once it heats up, many try to avoid being out until the sun goes down but I am not on the streets then. I always advise people to schedule a time and place to meet with me in order to avoid running out of pet food. Many don't have phones which makes this even more difficult but we usually find ways to make it work... Bottled waters, plush squeaky dog toy, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba chicken stew, Inaba chicken fillets, buffalo tendons, collagen sticks and bully sticks were shared.
We had five pets scheduled for 'the works' today. The first three were at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. Two female dogs and one female cat. One female dog has had multiple litters. We tried to have her spayed a couple of weeks ago but she got loose and didn't make it so we rescheduled for today. We confirmed last night at 5pm. Unfortunately, she was a no show today too and nobody answered my calls or texts to tell me what was going on. I finally received a text at 9:15 telling me her alarm was on silent and she did not wake up. She asked if she could bring the dog then but I told her it was too late….The female cat has had multiple litters in the river bottom so I am grateful we got her in, The other female dog belongs to a veteran and he was thankful for our help... While we were waiting tog et the pets checked in, I received a text from the companion of the that the two cats I had scheduled at the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. He said something came up and they were not going to be able to make their appointment. After a few texts back and forth, we agreed to meet forty five minutes later than usual so they could get done... The morning did not go as planned but we still managed to provide 'the works' for four pets so that is what matters most... "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Bottled waters, ARCO fuel cards and a Tiller Tugs tug toy were shared.
Busy day today that started early…My first trip out was at 6am when I drove to our storage units to pick up pet food and waters. I went home, unloaded, reloaded for today's travels. At 7:30am, I was in the parking lot of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services meeting someone who stays nearby in the river bottom. She was in need of supplies for her brother's dog and her cats. I knew it would be too hot for the dog to walk up there later in the morning which is why we made arrangements to meet when we did. I arrived a few minutes early and saw that the woman and the dog were already there. I filled her stroller with supplies and then I drove home as she was walking back to the river bottom. My third trip was to Fairmount Park. I did not go there until about 9:30am, because I was not sure people would be awake if I went earlier. I did not find everyone I was looking for but did visit with three dogs and provided supplies. When I was leaving the park, I drove through Rubidoux on my way to our PO Box. I did not see anyone with pets which wasn't a bad thing being that it was already beginning to heat up. There was nothing at our PO Box but when I was exiting the parking lot, I saw a few people sitting in the shade near the CircleK. It looked like there were a couple of dogs there too so I went to check it out. One of the gentleman I had actually seen yesterday and the two dogs were with him. I did not have plans to go anywhere else so I gave this group the last of my waters, including the frozen bottle I keep in the insulated bag so the cold waters stay that way. I only have room for about one case of water and I usually go home with a empty bag during the warmer months. I can't imagine what it is like for those that don't have water. As long as the people and their pets get some I will usually give a bottle to others who need one too... Bottled waters, large trash bags, Max and Neo leash, wet dog food, wet cat food, wet kitten food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Churus, Inaba Juicy Bites, Inaba Chicken Stew, chicken jerky treats, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, collagen sticks, bully sticks, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks, plush squeaky dog toy and cat toys were shared.
When I was at the Path of Life Community Shelter, last Friday, a couple of people mentioned they were going to need pet food so that was my first stop of the day. Unfortunately, nobody came out with their pets and I made a trip for no reason….When I left that location, I drove out to the The Pet's Place. I was told that the ashes for 'Spud' were there and I wanted to get them to his companion. As soon as I had them, I drove to Rubidoux to find him. He was where I saw him yesterday and there was another dog with him. He said a guy he knows left the dog there. I could not tell if the dog was pregnant or had a litter but I gave him a few supplies. He is not sure if he is keeping her but if he does, I will be sure to get her spayed at some point. My next stop was by Agate Park in Jurupa Valley. I visited a family there and provided supplies before heading over to our PO Box. On my way, I was looking for a gentleman whose dog needs a leash. I did not see him but did see another gentleman flying a sign by Jack In The Box. When I pulled into the parking lot, I saw there was a second dog. He told me the dog's owner went to jail and he is caring for him now. We discussed getting him neutered and should be doing that soon. I continued over to the post office and then I called it a day... Bottled waters, Max and Neo large dog collar, medium stainless steel pet dish, two other dog collars, individual bags of dog treats, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Churus, Inaba Juicy Bites, chicken jerky treats, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, bully sticks. buffalo tendons and a squeaky tennis ball were shared.
Yesterday, I took the day off to spend time with family. My main concern today as to get over to Costco and pick up the new glasses I ordered last Saturday. I ordered multiple pairs and I was not sure how busy the optical department was going to be or of they were going to need to make adjustments to any of them. Because the store did not open until 10am, I made arrangement to meet a few people with pets beforehand. With it warming up so quickly, I figured it would work out best anyway. On my way there, I drove through Rubidoux. I saw the companion of a dog we recently had cremated. I pulled over, briefly, to let him know I will pick up the ashes tomorrow and try to find him then. He isn't always easy to find but I am hoping he stays in the general vicinity of where he was this morning. As soon as I got back on the road, I headed to Grand Terrace. I visited with five of the pets and provided supplies. When we were done, I headed out to Costco. The store was a zoo but the optical department was not busy yet so I did not have to spend too much time there. I had thought about driving to another location where there might be people with pets but I didn't feel I had enough supplies with me. I stopped at the store to pick up a few things and went home. I have noticed that when the heat first hits, I sometimes have a hard time with it. I wasn't feeling one hundred percent today. As time goes on, I get used to it but I excused myself from too much of it today. Sometimes I feel guilty doing that, knowing the homeless get no break from the elements, but As long as I continue to make an effort to do my daily travels, I feel like I am still doing my part to be involved in making things a little bit better for some of those we serve... Bottled waters,2 small dog beds, individual bags of dog treats, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 2 medium Max and Neo dog collars, 1 large Max and Neo dog collar, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats and buffalo tendons were shared.
My first trip out, this morning, was to meet with two people who stay in the river bottom near the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. One needed a recheck on a puppy that was neutered June 12th and the other needed a good leash for one or more of her dogs. I was there at 8am but nobody showed up. The person needing the leashes had hurt her ankle and she could not make the walk. The other person neither texted nor showed so I drove back home to feed my dog and then made my second trip to the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside. I visited with two dogs and a cat there. I also provided supplies. When I left that location Id rove through Fairmount Park, Rubidoux and a few areas around Jurupa Valley but was unable to find anyone with pets. I went by the post office and then made it to an 11am counseling appointment... Bottled waters, small bag of cat food, wet cat food, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churus, Inaba Juicy Bites, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons and bully sticks were shared.
The gentleman whose cats were spayed and neutered yesterday told me that they were both recuperating nicely. One of the dog's was recuperating in a home so I just had to check on the other two. When I went to the motel, I was able to visit with both pets and provide supplies. I also visited with two other pets that were there. When I left the motel, I drove to the post office. I received a notification that Max and Neo had delivered a donation package. They are so generous, their products are great. We were in need of some collars and leashes so I was grateful. As I was leaving the post office, I noticed a couple of gentleman under a shade tree near Del Taco. I saw there was a dog but was not sure if it was one I knew. As I got closer, I could see it was so I stopped for a visit and to provide supplies. From there I went home for a brief time before running back out for a nail appointment. I rarely go anywhere that doesn't involve the charity but I still like having nice nails and that is one of the things I treat myself to every couple of weeks. My daughter had the day off and said she could come over so when I left the nail salon, I called Pizza Fanzz to order lunch for us... Bottled waters, protein shakes, coffee drink, high calorie nutritional gel, Max and Neo medium/large dog collar, large leash, collapsible pet bowls small bag of Bil-Jac senior dog food, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
We could really use some donations to help with our spay and neuter efforts. The cost for spaying/neutering, vaccinating, micro chipping, flea & tick treating, etc. has gone up quite a bit so if anyone is able to help, you will find our donation information at the end of this post... The Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic was closed today, in observance of 'Juneteenth' but we did have four appointments scheduled at the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. I want to thank Actors and Others for Animals for the pledge that helped lower our cost for their surgeries and an additional one we added last minute... We had 2 female dogs, 1 male dog and 1 male cat. The person with the male cat also has other cats that need 'the works'. I was unable to reach one of the people to confirm so I told him to bring a female cat just incase. Not everybody showed up on time but they all made it. I asked the clinic if anybody canceled so there might be an opening to squeeze in the female cat. After checking with the vet, they said yes so we provided 'the works' for a total of 5 pets. We also had one dog coming in from the Path Of Life Community Shelter kennels. She needed to update vaccinations as well as get flea & tick treated. I was not able to be there when they arrived but I did approve the payment... When I left that location, I planned to meet someone with her pet at Van Buren Animal Hospital but she never showed up so I drove straight out to Kaiser. I needed to have a couple of tests done and I had the time to do that. When I was done there, I headed home. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Bottled waters, ARCO fuel cards, collapsible pet bowls, small bag of small bites dog food, small bag of puppy food, wet puppy food and plush squeaky dog toys were shared.
I was asked to meet a few people with pets at one of the river bottom outlets not far from Streeter Avenue. I was expecting three or four people with pets. When I arrived, one person was there with her dog and another showed up shortly after. Sadly, nobody else did. I was planning to run a couple of personal errands but I had hoped to swing by Van Buren Animal Hospital first to check the status on a dog named Jesse. He needed medical attention so I gave the number of Feeding Pets Of The Homeless to his companion. She called there and then they asked for me to call and verify her homelessness, which I did. She had an appointment for this morning but they got into an accident on their way there and never made it. She was able to call and reschedule for tomorrow. Not sure I can make it, because it is spay and neuter day but I asked her to keep me updated. I had not really planned on going anywhere else so I decided to check the PO Box and then call it a day. I only visited and provided supplies for two pets but they were two pets but each of them was in need so it was worth the trip. Tomorrow should be a bit more productive. The clinic at the Department of Animal Services is closed but we have four pets scheduled at the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. Hoping they all show up... Bottled waters, k9 glucosamine chews, wet dog food, 2 small bag of senior dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons, collagen sticks and collagen sticks wrapped in chicken were shared.
Last night, my senior dog gave me a medical scare. It only lasted about ten minutes. I was up all night worrying about him. Thankfully, he slept through the night and was his usual 'old man' self this morning. I did go out to do my daily travels but cut my time to two hours so I could make sure he was still doing ok…While I was out, I went to the Path of Life Community Shelter to speak to someone whose dog is getting 'the works' on Wednesday, get info from someone who needs to update her pet's vaccinations for the kennels there and see who else might need supplies. I visited five pets and provided supplies for them as well as one more. While I was there, I received a text from someone at Fairmount Park. I told her I would go there as soon as I was done. I had actually tried to reach her earlier but her phone went straight to voicemail so I was glad she texted. I was able to visit with her two dogs and provide supplies, before heading home. My dog was still doing ok so that was a relief. I had made plans to meet some friends for lunch and was grateful I did not have to cancel. I did not have the best day yesterday so I was really looking forward to some time with them... Bottled waters, wet dog food, small bag of small bites dog food, small bag of senior dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Juicy Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and collagen sticks wrapped in chicken were shared.
I would have loved to have been with family today but since that was not possible I was happy to spend time with some of my furry friends. I visited two different motels on the West side, where they are staying with their companions while awaiting housing. There were two dogs at each location. There were a few kitties too but I did not spend time with any of them. When I left the motel, I headed across town to our storage units to pick up supplies. I was thankful to get home before noon so the weather was still pleasant. I never like loading, unloading and then restocking my vehicle for the next day, when it is in the 90's or triple digits. That being said, I am fortunate enough to be able to go inside and cool off which is much more than those I provide services for are able to do. When my life took a huge change, a few years back, it caused me so much sadness. It was very hard to feel gratitude about anything. I am still working through some of that but the gratitude comes much easier these days! Bottled waters, protein shakes, wet dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, chicken jerky treats, individual bags of treats, small squeaky Kong ball, plush squeaky dog toy, bully sticks, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
This morning, I made my usual Saturday visit to an encampment in Grant Terrace. I only stayed about thirty minutes, because I needed to take care of something that I have been putting off….About a week and a half ago, I got all new prescriptions for my eyeglasses. I can't do the progressive lenses so I have to get different strength glasses. Those include computer, reading, distance and prescription sunglasses for distance. It had been three years since I updated my last prescriptions so it was long overdue. Besides the financial aspect, I don't like picking them out and trying them on so I have been putting it off. I needed to pick up something at Costco so I decided to check out their vision department. I ordered a few pair. Some were name brand and one was their brand but I liked them all. I try not to make too many trips to Costco, as it is usually a bit of a madhouse there, but for the money it saved me it will be worth a trip back. I had thought about making another stop on my way home but I was there much longer than expected and did not have time. Unfortunately, I have no family plans for Father's Day so I will be doing my daily travels tomorrow... Bottled waters, protein shakes, wet dog food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats and buffalo tendons were shared.
On my way to the Path of Life Community Shelter, I stopped at my daughter's place to drop off a package that came for her. She gave me a bag of recyclables that I was able to pass on at one of today's stops. My first stop was in the parking lot of the Path of Life Community Shelter. I was looking for the companion of a dog I am supposed to have spayed on Wednesday but she was not there. I did see a gentleman who has been trying to meet up with me for dog food. I was able to visit with his two dogs and provide supplies. I also visited and provided supplies for a kitty that stays in the kennels there, while her companion sleeps at the shelter. When I left that location, I drove a few miles away to where a couple parked the truck they sleep in. I had been trying to catch up with them for quite some time and we finally made it happen today. I visited and provided supplies. My final stop was at Hunter Park. There is a woman who lives in a van with her dog and she had texted me to tell me they would be there. She said they might be sleeping and to knock on the window. I did that and they came out. From there, I drove home and then made my way across town for an 11am hair appointment. It always feels good to freshen my hair color and get rid of the grey... Bottled waters, trolley cable run, large bag of recyclables, small bag of adult dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, wet cat food, Inaba Churus, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, chicken jerky treats, collagen chew sticks, buffalo tendons, cat toy, Kong squeaky ball and 2 plush squeaky dog toys were shared.
I drove to the Jurupa Valley Motel6 this morning to check on two puppies that were neutered yesterday, a dog that needed food as well as another dog that was just spayed and returned to her companion. That dog had a litter of ten in the river bottom and when we reached out to the Mary S. Robert's Pet Adoption Center they said they would help if they had a foster who could deal with a nursing mother. They did and the foster cared for all of them, until it was time for mama to get spayed and go back to her companion. That happened yesterday. It was great to see them reunited this morning! Bottled waters, ARCO fuel card, McDonalds gift card, 2-bubble blasters, tube of high calorie nutritional gel, jar of peanut butter, Max and Neo fleece blanket, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, small bag of puppy food, wet puppy food, wet dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats, Tiller Tugs collar and Tiller Tugs leash were shared.
Today got off to a rocky start. Later in the day, I found out a dog I was supposed to spay on the 26th is very pregnant. I am so tired of people letting this happen, especially when it is not the first time... This morning, we had a mama dog and two of her male puppies scheduled for 'the works'. They live in the river bottom near the Riverside County Department of Animal Services so I was not anticipating any problems. However, when the person who made the appointments showed up, she only had the two puppies and neither had collars. I fitted them with collars and then her friend went back to the bottom to look for the mama. He could not find her so he stayed with me and the puppies and the woman went back down to look but had no luck. It was too late to try to get another dog in her place so I was only able to get the two in... When I left that location, I went home for about half an hour and then headed out to the Mary S. Robert's clinic. We had one cat scheduled and were taking care of the spay for a dog named 'Lulu'. Many of you may recall a post about seven weeks ago regarding a mama dog with ten newborn puppies. Their companion lives in the river bottom and was concerned for the babies. Mary S. Robert's took them in to their foster program with the agreement that the mama would be adopted back to her original owner, once the puppies were weaned and she was spayed. I am happy to say that is now the case and if all goes as planned, she will be spending a couple of nights at the motel, after being reunited with her companion. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Bottled waters, ARCO fuel cards, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Churus, wet cat food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company and two medium dog collars were shared.
When I was in Grand Terrace, on Saturday, I was not able to visit with all of the pets that stay in the encampments there. I told one of the companion's that I would meet him this morning to visit with two of his dogs and to give him some senior food. (I did not have any when we last met.) They were my first stop of the day. After we visited and I provided a few supplies, I realized I had forgotten something at hone and made the drive back there. Because I am still trying to give a dog named 'Naughty' a donated Tiller Tug collar and leash, I drove to Fairmount Park. I did not find her or her companion but did find a couple of other dogs with someone so I spent some time with them. After our visit, I provided a few supplies and then drove to the workplace Rebecca Torres who is the wife of Ralph Torres who does our website. I had a bag of baked goods, cat toys and cat treats for them. It is my monthly way of trying to show my appreciation for all he does for us. From there, I headed over to our storage units. Seth Cox picked up our Monthly Recurring Donation of pet food from the Star Milling Company. He delivered it and then helped me unload everything. I am so grateful to Star Milling for the donation and to Seth for all of his help! Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, 2 small bags of senior dog food, Inaba Churu Bites, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, buffalo tendons, medium stainless steel pet dish, bubble blaster and bully sticks were shared.
Yesterday, I took the day off to spend time with family. I was back on the streets today but only spent time with three pets. My first stop was at the Path of Life Community Shelter. I visited with and provided supplies for a puppy and a kitten. There were other people with dog and one one of them asked for dog food. I asked if his dog was neutered and he said no. I explained our policy regarding spaying/neutering and receiving assistance with food or other pet supplies. Not only were the people unwilling to spay and neuter but they want to breed and told me the shelters need to stop killing and let people who want to adopt do so. I tried educating a gentleman about why the pets are euthanized and about the number of homes being far less than the number of impounded animals and he tried to tell me that was untrue. I finally said I was not willing to discuss it any further and walked away. I can't believe the ignorance that is still out there regarding this issue. Every now and then, someone is willing to be educated and make changes but so many still want to spread their nonsense. I even heard a conspiracy theory about shelters saying they had no more room. It is insane! When I left that location, I drove to Hunter Park. I saw a couple who have a dog but the dog was not with them so I continued driving. To my surprise, the truck I was looking for was not parked where it usually is so I called the companion to find out where she went with her two dogs. She said they got an apartment in Moreno Valley. No more living in the front seat of a truck for that family. I am so happy for them! bNiagara Bottling Company approved a request for a water donation. Cindy and Seth Cox were kind enough to pick it up this morning. On my way to our storage units, I made a quick stop, on the Eastside, to visit with 'Solo', picked up a few things from Trader Joe's and then me them to unload the pallet. I am so Grateful to them and to Niagara. So many pets and their companions will be a little better hydrated because of them! Bottled waters, small collar and leash set, chicken jerky treat, small bag of senior dog food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, kabob chew sticks, bubble blaster and collapsible pet dish were shared.
I usually go out to Grand Terrace on Saturdays and that is where I went today. I stopped in one area where I visited with five dogs. I provided supplies for them and a couple others that stay in that encampment. When we were done, I drove up the street to meet with someone who has a couple of dogs. One is not dog friendly so we meet separately. I did not have time for him to walk back and get his second dog but I did provide supplies for both of them. From there, I made a brief stop at home, went to the post office and then to the Beach Bar and Grill. I was meeting with Christine Ramirez who is a friend and has volunteered for us many times. I also wanted to reach out to the management again. About six weeks ago I left a contact card and have made weekly calls ever since. We would love to have a 'Comedy For Causes' fundraiser there but I need to know if that is something management will approve. Hoping today's trip there brings some progress one way or the other... Bottled waters, wet dog food, wet cat food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tails, buffalo tendons, collagen stick, bubble blaster, bubble refill and plush squeaky toys were shared.
Yesterday, I received a call from someone at the Path of Life Community shelter with a puppy. She wanted to make use of our services but when she sent a photo I told her the puppy looked way too young. I agreed to meet her this morning so I could have a look in person but my opinion did not change. I felt the puppy should still be with its mom and she said that was not possible. I suggested puppy formula and mush. The woman is in a wheelchair which is going to make this a very difficult task but I did give her some bottles, a dish and a can of formula. I get so frustrated with people who won't spay/neuter and then give away or sell underage puppies but I can't do much after the fact. While I was there, I visited with a kitty and met with a man who is new to the shelter. He has a dog named 'Zeus'. I spent some time with him and then provided a few supplies, before heading over to Hunter Park. I was going to meet someone there with his two dogs. We were supposed to meet Monday but he overslept and was a no show. He promised to be there today. I called and texted multiple times and waited for awhile but he was a no show again. I will not be making a third trip, at this point. If the companion really needs something, he will have to find a way to get to where I am. Fuel is expensive and my time is valuable. One no show is frustrating but I usually give people a second chance. After that, it is up to them to make things work out on my schedule. When I left the park, I drove around the Eastside. I wanted to go to the car wash but it was too busy so I decided to go see 'Solo'. On my way home for an 11am zoom meeting, I drove through Rubidoux. I was hoping to find the companion of 'Spud' so I could offer my condolences but he was not in any of his usual places. I will wait and speak to him when I get the dog's ashes... Bottled waters, can of PETLAC, pet nursing bottle kit, wet cat food, cat toy, wet dog food, small bag of adult dog food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tails, buffalo tendons, collagen sticks, collapsible pet bowls, plush squeaky toy and squeaky tennis ball were shared.
I woke up to bad news this morning about a dog that passed away yesterday. He was a little guy I have known for over ten years. The problem was that nobody was willing to drive him to the animal hospital to get cremated. I reached out to a few people and finally worked something out. I was going to be visiting with a family that lives near where the dog needed to be dropped off and they agreed to take care of it for me after we visited….Before doing that, I went to the motel to check on one of the dog's that was spayed yesterday. She was still pretty drugged up but doing fine otherwise. When I left there, I called the companion of 'Sugar' to try and get an update. Besides having low thyroid she has had cancer surgery twice and the vet was worried that the cancer was back and spread. Her companion is not sure what he wants to do next but I asked him to keep me updated….I took the freeway to Fairmount Park where I went to meet a family and look for a couple of dogs that I had Tiller Tugs collars and leashes for. Before meeting up with anyone, I saw someone in the parking lot with a dog that I had not seen before. He had the dog for over a month but never check for a chip so I did. The dog was chipped so I sent a message to a Sargent at the Department of Animal Services to find out if anyone was looking for him. Turns out, the dog had been missing for four months. The plan was for him to go and check out the situation. The finder wanted to speak to the owner and I was told the owner was going to do that so I am hoping for the best. While at the park, I visited with the family I had planned to see. They have been housed for a few years but we still meet up every month or so and I get to visit with some of their pets. They went to pick up the deceased dog, after they left and they dropped him off for cremation. As I was getting ready to leave the park, I saw one of the guys I was looking for whose dog was supposed to get a donated Tiller Tugs collar and leash so I stopped for a visit. By the time we were done, I had to get going to make it to a personal appointment I had... Bottled waters, our last McDonald's gift card, Tiller Tugs leash, Tiller Tugs collar, plush squeaky dog toy, wet dog food, 2-17 pound bags of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tails and a bully stick were shared.
Because of an appointment at Kaiser, this morning, I only had time to do spaying/neutering at one place and that was the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. We had two male dogs and one female dog scheduled. The two male dogs were referrals from Michael Walsh with Working Dogs for Warriors. We have been connected, since we both received awards, in 2022, from American Red Cross of the Inland Empire. Taking It To The Streets with Lori and Shira is mostly involved in assisting the homeless with their pets we but we also provide our services for Veterans. The Pitbull belonging to the homeless individual was a bit aggressive and did not have a leash. I provided her with a Tiller Tugs leash and when her companion said she liked toys I gave her a squeaky Tiller Tug toy. She immediately started to wag her tail and did not want to let go of the toy. We still muzzled her, when it was time to go in, due to her growling at people. Better to be safe and make sure nobody gets bitten and that the pet gets what it needs. All three dogs were checked in around 8:30am. I went home briefly and then headed out to Kaiser... The senior Chihuahua being helped by Feeding Pets Of The Homeless had an appointment at Van Buren Animal Hospital at 9:15am. I was not able to meet there, due to my Kaiser appointment, but I did text her companion. She had bloodwork and x-rays done and was being picked up at 4pm. Not sure about the prognosis yet. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Bottled waters, ARCO fuel card, Tiller Tugs leash, 3-Tiller Tugs squeaky tug toys, wet dog food, collapsible pet dish, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken and a 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company were shared.
My first trip out was at 7am when I went to our storage units to pick up supplies. I unloaded some of it at home and then reloaded for today's travels. I made my second trip out about an hour later. Before I made any stops today, I went to the post office to see if our package from Tiller Tugs had arrived. It did, so I made plans to go to Fairmount Park and look for the dogs that need the collars and leashes. Before doing so, I needed to stop somewhere else first... Yesterday, I received a call from someone who was trying to get help for his 15 year old Chihuahua named 'Sugar'. He had called Feeding Pets Of The Homeless but they said he needed to verify his homelessness. I told him I was meeting someone from the river bottom with her three dogs in the parking lot of Riverside County Animal services. I was originally going to try to meet him at Fairmount Park but was not totally sure if I was going out there. He lives in his truck, with his dog, so he was able to come and meet me. I met with the three dogs and their companion first. The two females are spayed and we have an appointment to neuter the male on the 26th of this month. After visiting and providing needed supplies, I spent some time with the Chihuahua and her companion. One of her legs has been very swollen for the past two weeks and I am hoping she is able to get the help she needs. After meeting in person, I was sent an email to verify directly to Pets Of The Homeless. They used to call me and then had me start calling them. Now I need to send an email as well. It is time consuming and makes the animal wait longer for care but I did my part. I told the companion to keep in touch and that we would provide a motel room for a night if she needs surgery and is healthy enough to be put under anesthesia. When I left that location I drove all around Fairmount Park looking for the people with pets that were to receive Tiller Tugs collars and leashes but nobody with pets was at the park. I drove all through Rubidoux too. I did not have any luck anywhere I drove so I called it a day... Bottled waters, Inaba chicken fillets, 3 dog collars, 3 dog leashes, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, buffalo tendons, individual bags of jerky treats, collagen sticks, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, buffalo tails, squeaky tennis balls, plush squeaky dog toys and chicken jerky treats were shared.
Today was a short day for me, but I did manage to see a couple of pets…Two days ago, I made arrangements to meet someone today at Hunter Park on the Eastside. On my drive there, I went past the Path of Life Community Shelter to see if anyone was outside with pets. Nobody was so I continued driving to the park. As I was doing so, I started having terrible pain in my right side so I out the seat heater on. I had not lifted anything it felt like I had pulled something out of whack. When I arrived at the park, the person I was supposed to meet was not there. He did not answer any of my texts or calls either so I drove a few blocks away where a woman stays in a truck with her dogs. I thought they might have gotten housing but they had not. The pain was bothering me but I was still able to visit with the dogs and provide a few supplies. When I left them, I drove back through the park a second time to see if the gentleman showed up. He had not. At this point, I was very uncomfortable and decided to go home, make sure I didn't have a fever and take some Aleve. When I was almost there, the gentleman called to say he overslept but I told him I was not returning today. I was nauseas while driving and was grateful when I arrived home. No fever but I felt something wasn't right. After texting both of my children at work, I texted a good friend and asked if she would drive me to the emergency room. I have never been but I felt it might be necessary. My friend said she could be ready in thirty minutes and would come pick me up. She lives across town but never hesitates to help. During the next ten minutes, the pain was gone, the nausea was gone and I felt fine. I told her I would let her know if anything changed but I was good for now. At that point I sent a message to my doctor at Kaiser to see what, if any, steps she wants me to take to have this episode checked out. I am not sharing this for medical advice or medical opinions, so please don't feel the need to comment regarding this. I have a good doctor for that, I just wanted to share what my morning was like and why I was unable to make more of an effort on the streets. Right now, I am grateful whatever it was passed without an ER visit and I will do whatever the doctor instructs me to from here... Bottled waters, Inaba chicken fillets, wet dog food, buffalo tendons and chicken jerky treats were shared.
There are a couple of dogs on the Eastside that are only available for visits on Sundays. I may have family plans the next two Sundays. If I do I won’t be doing my usual travels so I drove out there today. I was able to visit and provide supplies, before heading to the nearest freeway onramp to go to Jurupa Valley. There is a family I try to visit every Sunday and that is where I headed. I was able to catch up with them and visit with five of their pets as well as provide needed supplies. I didn’t need to get home for another thirty minutes but that wasn’t enough time to go to a couple of locations I wanted to so I just called it a day... Bottled waters, medium collar from Max and Neo, large stainless steel pet dish, bubble refill, small bag of Bil-Jac senior dog food, cat food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Pops, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks, collagen sticks, chicken jerky treats, squeaky tennis balls, squeaky dog toy, plush squeaky dog toys and a cat charmer were shared.
I spent most of my time in Grand Terrace, visiting with a group of pets that in an encampment with their companions. I was sad to learn that a puppy named 'Harley' died of Parvo this week. She looked fine last week-end but it hit her hard and fast. Just another reason people need to commit to having us provide 'the works' as soon as possible. I realize it take three parvo combo vaccinations for them to be fully protected but we give them off to a good start. This is not the first pet to catch Parvo in that area so I hope it doesn't happen again. After visiting with the pets ad providing supplies, I drove through Rubidoux. I did not find anyone with pets so I continued to our PO Box in Jurupa Valley. Nothing there but I was just a few blocks away from where I thought someone had her RV parked so I drove there next. She had already left for Oregon, so I did not catch her and her fur babies before they did, but I did see another dog on that street. She had gotten out of the van her family stays in and left the field. She had a baby bunny pinned down on the street and I was hoping it was still alive but sadly it wasn't. I walked the dog back to where her companions were. That street has a lot of trucks driving up and down it and I know she already got 'grazed' once so I hope they can find a better way to secure her. When I left that location, I decided to call it a day and go home... Bottled waters, protein shakes, bubble blaster with extra bubbles, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, small bag of cat food, Inaba Churus, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Juicy Bites, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks, collagen sticks and chicken jerky treats were shared.
