When all was said and done, two female dogs, one female dog and one female cat got 'the works' today……..We had six pets scheduled, and confirmed, for 'the works'. There were three female dogs, two male dogs and a female cat. Things did not go as planned... At 6am I received a text that we needed to change a couple of the pets coming in for 'the works' from Perris. I had already sent all the information in so I knew we would just have to notify them of the changes when we arrived. It was inconvenient but not a big deal. At 6:30am, I received a call from a woman in San Bernardino. She said she did not have enough gas to make the trip and wondered if I could help. I give people an ARCO fuel card to help, a little, but it wasn't like I could drive one out to her and even if I could, she would not make her appointments on time and neither would I. I already did two dogs for her, a couple of weeks ago and saved her two appointments for today as she requested. She even had more dogs that needed done. I told her I would no longer be able to help her being that she waited until the last minute to tell me she had a problem with gas. If she had told me yesterday, I would have substituted other pets in her appointment slots but it was too late. Unfortunately, I will no longer be offering her our services. I really prefer to provide services to Riverside County pets but it is hard to say no when people are struggling so I have been doing pets from other counties too. At 7:15am, I began texting one of the confirmed appointment numbers. The texts were read but I got no response. That meant we would only be using three appointments today which was upsetting. However, the companion of one of the female dog's was with a gentleman who has an appointment for next week. She offered to go and pick up that dog today so one less appointment was wasted. She got pulled over and was a little late getting back but she still made it…..Lots of changes going on and two appointments were not filled but four were and that is something to be grateful for. I was worried about running late and not making it out to Kaiser for my Ophthalmology appointment but it all worked out. I went to Rubidoux, this morning, to speak to some people about their dogs being spayed and neutered. When I arrived, ACO Omar was already there. She was returning an injured dog that had been treated by the Department of Animal Services. With permission, she will be assisting me, in the near future, by driving one or two dogs to their spay neuter appointments. We had never met but I had spoken to her on the phone and heard great things about her. She is one of many caring AC Officers that we are fortunate to have here. I visited with the dogs, provided a few supplies and then drove to meet people, and their pets, at Fairmount Park. I was able to visit with the three dogs and provide supplies for all of them. When I left that location, I spent some time driving around Jurupa Valley looking for a woman I had passed on the street yesterday. Both ACO Omar, and I, have helped this woman and her dog many times but neither of us has been able to find her since her van was impounded and she wound up on the streets. We both put out the word that we are looking for her. I was not successful today but will continue trying to find her, unless ACO Omar finds her first. We are both concerned about the woman and her dog in this heat and just want to help where we can. After my 'search', I returned home and stocked my vehicle for tomorrow's spay/neuter appointments. We have five dogs and one cat confirmed and I am hoping, as always, that they each make it... Today was a busy day that began with emails to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services with this week's spay/neuter appointments as well as an email to a Sgt. requesting permission for one of his AC Officers to help with transporting dogs the following week. When I left the house, I drove to the Eastside so I could visit dogs in the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. On my way, I received a call from a couple whose dogs were spayed last week. They were concerned about one of the incisions. I said I would check it out. I did that and assured them everything looked the way it should. When we were done, a couple not staying in the shelter, showed up with their puppy. Another gentleman was there with a dog I had not met. He is a recent check in to the shelter. His dog is not neutered so I explained the services we provide. I visited with a total of six dogs. Each of them received treats and a chew stick. Some of them received other supplies as well. My next stop was to the Budget Inn which is also on the Eastside. I received a text from a couple staying there with their two dogs. They needed food. I visited with the dogs and provided needed supplies. I also met a woman who has two dogs that need neutered. She is deaf and going into the hospital for a few days. I wrote her a note and explained that I could provide neuter+ services for her dogs. She is unable to speak on the phone herself so I suggested she have her social worker call me to make arrangements. When I left the Eastside, I drove through Rubidoux and saw a woman with her dog that I have been looking for. There is an AC Officer looking for her too. She has helped the woman many times and was concerned about her. I did not have time to stop, because I needed to get home for a zoom meeting but I did text the AC Officer. I planned to go to Rubidoux tomorrow so I am hoping she is still there or that someone knows where she stays now. The zoom meeting was to discuss an upcoming comedy fundraiser we are having on October 18th at Back To The Grind. There is much planning to do and it is time to get started. We will be looking for people to do gift baskets again, since that went so well last time. I will post updates as we have them. After the zoom meeting, I rushed out of the house to meet a very dear friend for lunch. I have mentioned before that she is someone I grew up in New York State with and reconnected with in Riverside many years later. Our friendship spans over 60 years so she is family to me. We try to meet up every month for lunch and get together now and then for special occasions. I value the friendship and our get togethers. After lunch, I returned home and got busy doing work at my desk... We visited and I provided them with needed supplies. I waited to see if the others were going to show but they didn't. I tried reaching out to one that has a phone but it went straight to voicemail so I left. From there I drove across town, to our storage units, to get more water and pet food and then I returned home. I made arrangements to drive out to Colton today and tomorrow to meet with a few people and their pets. It is sometimes easier not to meet with all of them at once so as long as there are three or more pets in need, each visit, I am willing to make the drive two days in a row. This morning I met with a couple of women and three dogs. We visited and I provided them with supplies. While I was there, I received a call from someone who was at a friend's downtown. They timed him out of the motel he had been staying in so he has been going back and forth between friends while waiting for his housing to go through. When I left Colton, I drove to an area behind White Park to meet with the gentleman and his dog. When I was done there, I made a stop at the store to get more produce for me and my tortoise, checked our (empty) PO Box and returned home. From there, I had to make one stop to do something for the charity and then I went home. I loaded a few supplies for tomorrow's travels, had lunch and then got busy at my desk... When I was getting pets checked in for their spay/neuter appointments yesterday, a homeless gentleman rode up on a bike with his dog. His dog had been sprayed by a skunk and he was looking for help to get rid of the smell. I had not seen him in a while and asked if he was in need of dog food. He said 'yes' and we agreed to meet in the Riverside County Animal Services parking lot today at 8:45am. Not sure what happened to him but he never showed. I did not have a phone number so I could not call. Two of the pets that received 'the works' were at the Jurupa Valley Motel6 so I headed there next. One of them was doing a lot of whining when her companions came to get her and they were concerned. I told them it was most likely just the drugs and to see how she was this morning. She was fine as was the other dog that was with her. From there, I drove around a few areas of Jurupa Valley. I was hoping I might see some people out with their pets, being that the temperatures had not gotten to the 90's+ yet, but I did not have any luck. I had an appointment at the nail salon, for a fill, so I went to that and that returned home. My first stop of the day was actually at Dollar Tree. The flies are a big problem this year and we do not have any fly repellent for the pets. We have used petroleum jelly, in the past, so I picked up ten tubes of that to hold us over until people start donating the repellant. From there, I went to the parking lot of Riverside County Animal Services. I had arranged to meet someone from the river bottom at that location. She doesn't bring her cats, to visit, but always brings her dog. Her boyfriend usually brings a bike with a cart to get the supplies back to their encampment. As soon as the dog had enough treats, and was just about done with a bully stick, they left. It was already heating up so I went straight to Rubidoux to look for a woman who had requested dog food. I did not find her yesterday and had the same issue today. I was able to stop for some other people with pets so it wasn't a wasted trip. I didn't bother going anywhere else, because I figured it was getting too hot for anyone to be walking around with their pets. I was back home by 11:30am. I loaded the supplies I need for tomorrow's spay/neuter appointments and then went inside for lunch and to start working at my desk. We are already booked for tomorrow and the following Wednesday and started making appointments for the last Wednesday of the month. I was contacted, during the week, by someone who stays in the river bottom near Ryan Bonominio Park. She was texting on behalf of herself, and others, who were in need of pet food. We made arrangements to meet this morning. One of the women, who usually meets me with her dog, was not there. I was told he went missing last night. He is a senior and doesn't always get around very easily so I am really hoping he is ok. Someone I had never met before showed up with his dog so I was able to give him the bag of food I had brought for the missing dog. There was a total of three dogs and a kitten. The gentleman I met today has the mama kitties and I suggested we get them spayed. I hope that is something we do. I know the kitten will get 'the works' as soon as she is a little bit bigger. When we were done, I went to meet Maria Flores with some of the cookies I baked this morning. It is her boyfriend's birthday and she mentioned what kind of cookies he liked so I sent her home with some. I drove through Rubidoux next but did not make any stops. It was drizzling, on and off, and I wasn't sure if it might rain. It didn't but I returned home anyway. I am not sure about making my trip to the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter tomorrow, because I am expecting someone to deliver something to my storage units. I will have to wait and see how it goes... It is the second Saturday of the month which usually means there will be a gathering at Fairmount Park. Often times, many of those people bring their pets. I was supposed to meet with three people to bring pet food and then I had some items for others as well. Only one of the three actually showed up. It sounded like the heat was keeping people from showing up at all or showing up with their pets. I did have an opportunity to visit with four dogs that were there and I provided a few supplies. I also spoke to a couple of people and made arrangements to meet them the following weekend. When I left that location, I went to our PO Box and was very happy to find a check from Stater Bros. Charities as well as a very nice sympathy card for the loss of my dog 'Sammy'. That card came all the way from Australia which made it extra special and meaningful. My final stop was at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. I went there to drop off baked goods for my daughter and another staff member. I returned home, after that. Once again, thankful to do my afternoon work routine in the comfort of an air conditioned house... Four of the pets that received 'the works' yesterday started their recuperating at the Jurupa Valley Motel6. I went there this morning to check on them. They all seemed to be doing great. I also had an opportunity to visit with two other dogs, while I was there. One of the, was in a room with the two females that had their spay day and the other was just in a room her companion got for them. When I left that location, I drove across town to our storage units to meet Seth Cox. He made the monthly trip to Star Milling in order to pick up, deliver and help unload our donation of 600 pounds of dog food and 170 pounds of cat food. I can't thank him enough for continuing to do this for us, especially when it is so hot outside. A huge thank you always goes out to the Star Milling Company for the generosity and ongoing support! When I left our units, I returned home to unload some of what I had gotten from storage and to reload for tomorrow's travels. I am not a fan of the heat but trying to get myself acclimated to it being that it is going to be a long Summer. Yesterday, I took day off for work being done at my house and then people not getting back to me to confirm a meet up time. I am not sure what was going on with the people and their pets at the Path of Life Community Shelter but there were only two dogs out this morning. I visited with them, provided their companion with supplies and then began driving through the park and some areas in Jurupa Valley. While I was driving, I called a woman who stays on the Colton side of the river bottom. She had texted me, last week, about a kitten and a stray dog. I was still trying to get back in touch with her. She wants to get the kitten neutered but was not sure of his age or size so I agreed to drive out there and meet with her. I think the kitten is old/big enough but I don't have any openings for a couple of weeks anyway so we will have to get him scheduled. She has a number of cats, and dogs, and she always makes sure they all get spayed/neutered. She doesn't bring the adult cats up to meet with me but she usually brings her dogs. She could not today, because she did not have access to a vehicle to get them all up to where we meet. I made sure she got supplies for all of them. When we were done, I went to our PO Box. I was expecting something but it was not there so I just headed home and spent the rest of the day the same way I usually do... Last year, I saw so many dogs running loose, the day after the 4th, but I was happy not to see any today. I never understand why people are not more careful and just keep their dogs inside during the days/weeks of fireworks being set off... The only plans I had made for today's travels were to meet a woman and her son at North Park. She has two small dogs and he has one large dog. It had been five weeks since I had seen them and they were in need of pet food. I was out of senior dog food, for the little ones, but their companion was happy to get a twenty pound bag of adult dog food. We visited, I provided supplies and then I drove around Fairmount Park and Jurupa Valley but did not find anyone with pets so it was an early day for me. It was already 80 degrees, a little before eleven, so I was thankful to get home before it really heated up. I did not get much sleep last night, due to all of the inconsiderate people shooting off their illegal fireworks, which made me happy to go home where I could work at my desk and take a power nap if needed... I did not make any plans today, because I was going to get my vehicle checked out. A warning light came on yesterday and even though it went off today, I still wanted to be sure it was safe to drive. At 8am, I was at the shop and everything seemed to check out which indicated that it might have been a glitch that caused the light to temporarily come on. Once I knew it was safe, I decided to drive out to Rubidoux. I had a trolley tie out cable that I wanted to give someone for a dog. She was on a tether that was too short and this was going to give her more room to move around. While I was there, I visited with all four dogs at that location and provided a few supplies. When I left that location, I headed to Fairmount Park. I did not see anyone with pets there so I got onto Market Street and was going to drive to a few areas in Jurupa Valley when I spotted a gentleman, I know, flying a sign by the freeway onramp. He had his two dogs with him so I put down my window and told him to meet me back at the park. I then drove around the block so I could go and do that. We had a visit and I provided supplies. It had started to rain, on and off, and it was also getting hot and muggy so I returned home from there. It was time for lunch and to get started working at my desk so that is what I did. Last night was pretty quiet around here so I am hoping tonight is going to be too but not too confident that it will be... I made my Friday visit to the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter, on the Eastside, but there were not many pets out today. I guess the Access Center started celebrating the 4th of July early and said today was a holiday which changed the hours for people to get their pets in and out of the kennels. I was able to visit with four pets and I provided supplies as well. When I left that location, I drove across town to our storage units to pick up pet food and waters. I was going to go tomorrow and then realized it is a holiday and the facility will be closed so I went today instead. I filled my vehicle and then went home to unload what needed to come out and load what I want to have with me tomorrow on my daily travels. I did go back out a second time but that was just to check our PO Box and run a couple of personal errands. When I stopped at our PO Box, one of my vehicle's maintenance lights came on so before I do anything tomorrow, I have to have that checked out. Hoping it is something that can be taken care of right away. When I returned home from , I got busy doing what I usually do every afternoon which starts with lunch and then moves to work at my desk... When I left the motel, I had to go home to work on some things our bookkeeper needed and then I went to get my nails done. When I returned home, I had lunch and then continued working on what the bookkeeper needed as well as my daily desk work which includes answering emails/texts, social media, scheduling spay/neuter appointments and scheduling dates/times to meet people who need pet food/supplies. In between I take care answering calls that come in. I may not be on the streets, in the afternoons, but I am always busy... We are already full for next week and I would have liked to have given the two appointments to someone scheduled then but there was no time to make that happen so we just had the four today.
