I drove around for about an hour yesterday but did not come across anyone with pets. Rather than continue wasting fuel, I went downtown and parked while I waited for a meeting at Penrose Records. My friend Jenn Detroit introduced me to Matt Beld, and we discussed putting together a fundraiser there. We came up with some fun ideas and we are looking ahead to doing this in February. That will give me time to get through our October fundraiser, the holidays and hopefully and most of the heat... I did drive over to the Eastside, this morning, and stopped in front of the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. I met with someone who stays there with his dog and a woman who is trying to secure a bed for herself and a kennel for her senior tripod. I saw a group, up the street, but did not go there today. I did go over to the Budget Inn to meet with a couple that needed food for their dogs. When we were done, I went back to Jurupa Valley, got fuel and then went home for a brief time to get this week's spay/neuter appointments sent in. I went back out to meet a lifelong friend for lunch and then returned home to work at my desk. In addition to my daily travels and normal routine, I am trying to make more definite plans for our upcoming fundraiser. Tackling it a little at a time so it isn't quite so overwhelming... I was asked to meet a couple of people, and their pets, in Colton this morning. One of the gentleman could not get his dog to come out from under someone's RV so I only met with one person and the two dogs that he brought with him. When I left that location, I drove over to Fairmount Park to look for a gentleman whose dogs I am supposed to spay/neuter on Wednesday. He does not have a phone and I do not have his information. I can't schedule anything without his info. I was hoping to locate him but I was unsuccessful. I did see other people, with their pets, so I stopped to visit with them and provided a few supplies. When I was done, at the park, I drove out to our storage facility so I could pick up pet food and waters as well as pay our monthly rental fees. My vehicle was full and I was on my way home to unload/reload before it got too much hotter when I received a call from a friend who was worried about someone staying in the motel. I told her I would go to the motel and check things out for her. I did that and I am thankful to say that all was fine. When I returned home, I loaded/reloaded, at lunch and then got busy at my desk. I have a tire that doesn't seem to be holding quite as much air as the others so I have an appointment, tomorrow, to get it checked out at 9am when the place opens. I have an 11am meeting, downtown, with Jenn Detroit and Matt Beld so I am not sure if I will have time to visit any pets but if I do I will... I am not sure if I should continue going to the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter anymore. It seems as if nobody is out there anymore or I only find one or two people with pets. However, even though nobody was outside the kennels today, it was not a wasted trip to go to the Eastside. A few people are camped on Massachusetts and there are eight pets between them. Five adult dogs and three puppies. None of the females are spayed and they all have had litters. It is frustrating that their companion does no make arrangements with me to get them done but I cannot force anyone to do something they do not want to. All I can do is continue to offer. I did receive a text from a woman who is willing to take a little male dog in for me. His companion pretty much abandoned him and he has run off anytime Animal Control has come around. He has impregnated more dogs than I can count and it would feel like a real accomplishment to get him neutered. I will have to wait and see if this becomes a reality and not just talk. When I left the Eastside, I drove back to Jurupa Valley to take care of paying a bill and to go to an appointment. It was lunch time, when my appointment was done, so I returned home for my afternoon routine... We put three of the five pets that received 'the works' yesterday at the Jurupa Valley Motel6. When I went there to check on them, I also spoke to someone who needs her dog neutered and visited with a dog we provided 'the works' for quite some time ago. In addition, I spent some time with a woman I was introduced to by Brandy Knochel with Your Love Unleashed Dog Rescue. I won't get into her story, at this time, but she has a dog that needs neutered and we are hoping to get that done on Wednesday. We do not get it often but this morning there was humidity in addition to the heat so it was pretty miserable out there. I had thought about driving around, when I left the motel, but the truth is that I just didn't feel like staying outside. I grew up, back east, and I lived the first twenty years of my life with humidity. I never liked it. I was so happy when I moved to Southern California and experienced dry heat instead. I have been out here for fifty years now so I have become acclimated to the dry heat and avoid te humidity when possible. I feel a little guilty complaining about it with everything going on in the world, and what the unhoused have to deal with, but it is my truth and I accept it. It doesn't stop me from my daily travels but it does tend to cut them shorter. Hoping we are back to our dry heat tomorrow! In the mean time, I will finish today's tasks at my desk... There were twenty-four available spay/neuter appointments in August. We filled 23 of those... We had six pets scheduled, and confirmed, for 'the works' today. There were two female dogs, one male dog, two male cats and one female cat. I was hopeful that we might actually have one full month of everyone showing up but unfortunately, that was not the case. I received a text at 6:45am saying that the companion of one of the dogs could not catch him. I do not know why the dog was not contained last night but there was nothing anyone could do about it at this point. I tried calling someone on the schedule, for next week, but there was no way they could make it in time. That text came after a call I received at 6:30am saying that they had a lot of trouble catching the dog that was getting spayed. They did finally catch her but she would be late. As it turned out, everyone but one person was late. Thankfully, we were still able to get five pets checked in for 'the works' and that is a good thing. When I was at Fairmount Park, the other day, I spoke to a gentleman who wanted to discuss a dog he found three weeks ago in a field in an industrial area of Colton. It is near the river bottom but not any houses. Nobody in the bottom said they recognized the dog. There are no houses around this area and it is a place known for dogs being dumped but I wanted to check for a microchip. We agreed to meet, this morning, to do that. Unfortunately, the dog was not chipped and seems to have some skin issues going on as well. We will most likely provide 'the works', at some point, and see if we can find him some assistance for the skin issues. While I was at that location, I visited with, and provided supplies for, four other dogs as well. When we were done, I headed out to the Aldi in Jurupa Valley, I picked up a few things I needed, check our (empty) PO Box and then returned home. Tomorrow is spay/neuter day so I filled my vehicle with the supplies I will need to give to the companions of those pets and then went inside my house to cool down, before lunch and working at my desk. I know I keep talking about the heat but that is because we are not really getting a break from it. It was already over 90 degrees when I got home and it wasn't even noon. We are supposed to see temperatures below the triple digits, starting Sunday, but it still doesn't look like much of a cool down. I am definitely looking forward to our Fall and Winter weather. It can't come soon enough! Monday mornings are usually started on the Eastside in front if the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. As I was heading over there, I received a call from a woman who got her dog out of the pound yesterday. He was at risk of euthanasia, this week, so I am glad she was able to get him. I know it is hot and the woman is on the streets with two dogs but this is the life they have always known and I know both are ok. It might not be the best circumstances but she loves them and the feeling seems to be mutual... When I arrived on the Eastside, I did not see anyone outside the kennels with their pets. As I was getting ready to leave, I noticed a gentleman, I know, sitting with his dog in the cul-de-sac. I visited for a bit, provided supplies, and then drove up the street. I was actually looking for someone who had asked for dog food. I went to the tent where I saw her last but she was not there today. A couple of women were so I visited with the dogs that were there and discussed getting them spayed/neutered. None of them have been done yet and all of the females have had at least one litter. The male has fathered more litters than I can count. I have offered to help, multiple times, but I never get taken up on the offers. I will continue to offer in hopes that they decide to do it at some point. When I left the Eastside, I drove to Rubidoux to visit with the dog I had received the call about earlier. As soon as I pulled up, he came running over to my vehicle with a plush squeaky toy in his mouth. I met him when he was 8 weeks old. He is about seven, or more, years old and has greeted me with a toy ever since I can remember. I gave him, and his fur sister, treats and chew sticks as well as other supplies and then I drove out to our PO Box in Jurupa Valley. There was a letter from the Department of Justice about renewing our state registration online and I shared it with our bookkeeper incase she needed the information. My final stop was to meet a friend for lunch and then I returned home to start working at my desk... When I was at Fairmount Park yesterday, I noticed a group of people with pets across from where I was meeting with a couple of people and their pets. I did not have time to walk over to them, for a visit, so I thought I would just go back there today. That is what I did and they were still where they were when I last saw them. There was someone with her three dogs, a gentleman with his dog and then another gentleman who was caring for a friend's dog. I was able to give them all treat and some type of chew sticks. I also had a few leftover snacks for the people. While I was visiting, another gentleman came over to tell me that he came across a dog running loose. The dog was at his cam with his other two dogs. This dog is intact but his females are both spayed so that is not a problem but I did tell him it is important to check for a microchip. I don't go to the river bottom, where they stay, but he said he would meet me with the dog on Tuesday. I will bring my scanner and we will proceed from there. If there happens to be a chip, I will contact the chip company. If the dog is not chipped, I will post it and have it posted where someone might be able to find him. People are already offering the finder money for the dog which is problematic. Thankfully, he said no and informed me. When I left the park, I drove through Jurupa Valley looking for a couple of people with pets. They don't have phones. I have seen them, in the area, but it always seems to be when I am on my way somewhere and cannot stop. I will continue looking but decided I was done, on the streets, for today. Once again, I was thankful to go home before it hit the triple digits but was still heating up big time. I do not recall it being this hot for this long last summer and I wish there was more I could do to give people, and their pets, a break from it all. In the mean time, I got to stay indoors and work from my desk... My first stop of the day was in Rubidoux. I went to visit a dog and to let her companion know about an impounded dog that is now dead lined. He belonged to the woman's sister but she passed. She had another dog as well and the three dogs were too much for the woman who was still on the streets. I asked her if she knew anyone who might be able to pull the at-risk dog out before the Thursday deadline. She said she felt she could handle him and would most likely get him out herself, if nobody adopts him. I will keep an eye on him, in the meantime. While I was there, I visited with her dog and provided supplies, before heading to Fairmount Park. I have been trying to catch up with someone who wants both of his dogs to get 'the works'. He doesn't have a phone so I either call a friend who does, look for him myself or both. I did find him, this morning, and we discussed getting his dogs done when he gets his food stamps so he can eat while he is at the motel. Instead of making the appointments for this Wednesday, we will make them for the following week which is the beginning of September. In addition to visiting with his two dogs, I spent time with another dog that was there with her companion. I provided a variety of supplies for all of them and then left the park. I drove out to Jurupa Valley to check our PO Box (which was empty) and then I returned home. I needed to get a few things done and then go back out to meet Maria Flores for lunch. She has been helping me for many months now. Week after week, she transports cats/dogs from the Perris area so they can get 'the works'. I could not provide these services without her assistance. I ordered a couple of our t-shirts for her. I wanted to give her those and treat her to lunch as a way to thank her again for all that she does. My daughter said she would try to take her lunch break, at the same time, so I was looking forward to spending time with both of them. After lunch, I started doing work at my desk and worked on plans for tomorrow's travels... It is Friday so I headed to the Eastside this morning. I stopped up the street from the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter, when I noticed a tent on Massachusetts with people and pets. I spoke to one of the companions and told her I would be back, after I went to the kennels. I only saw three dogs there. One of the dog's was about to leave, with her companion, and the other two were getting ready to be put back in their kennels. I visited long enough to give them all treats but did not do any video clips. When we were done, I went back to the people, and pets, in the tent. There is no shade there and the temperature was already in the 80's. I gave them all treats, waters and bully sticks but did not do any video clips there either. When I left that location, I drove over to Progressive Graphics to pick up some t-shirts I had ordered, for the charity, and then I went to another location on the Eastside to visit with a dog there. I had been texting with his companion yesterday but for some reason they were not around so I drove to the nearest freeway onramp and headed to our storage units. I picked up pet food and waters. I had a couple more stops I needed to make but I really wanted to get home and unload everything before it got close to the triple digits we were expecting. Those other stops will have to be done tomorrow. I feel bad that we did not do a fundraiser for motel rooms this summer especially since it is going to be in the triple digits for at least another week. I may do a post to see if anyone is interested in helping with rooms but for now it is not really something I can offer, unless it is part of the spay/neuter program... Two of the pets that received 'the works' yesterday did not need motel rooms to begin recover but four of them did. My very first stop was Dollar Tree. I bought small pet dishes, small dog collars and medium dog collars. After I was done, I drove to the Jurupa Valley Motel6. The pets seemed to be recuperating nicely. I was able to visit and provide supplies. After leaving that location, I drove out to the Costco in Eastvale to purchase more bully sticks and chicken flavored chew sticks. There was also a good sale on Premier protein shakes so I bought a case of those too. When I left Costco, I went looking for someone an AC Officer had asked me about. I found the woman, with her puppy and dog. I texted the AC Officer to let her know. It was her day off but she appreciated the text. I visited with, and provided a few supplies, for the puppy and the dog. I checked our PO Box next. Nothing was there. It was heating up so I decided to call it a day. I returned home and spent the rest of the day working at my desk, with the exception of when I sat in the living room to edit today's photos... We had six pets scheduled, and confirmed, for 'the works' today. There were two female dogs, two male dogs, one female cat and one male cat. I am happy to share that they all made it! This is the third week, in a row, that we have not had any no-shows or last minute cancelations. I am always thankful when we are able to utilize all six of the appointments we are given each week. Two of the dogs came from an area that the Riverside County Animal Services Healthy Pet Zone Fund does not cover. We will be covering the cost of their services as well as the motel room. The other four were covered under the Healthy Pet Zone Fund. We will also be covering the motel cost for two of those pets. I would like to thank Maria Flores for alerting us to the needs of a cat, and dog, that she transported today. I also want to thank her for doing the transporting. I don't seem to have the time to go out to Perris. Having someone out there helping to arrange spay/neuter appointments for pets of the homeless, in that area, is a great help to me and the pets. I also want to thank Riverside County Animal Services Healthy Pet Zone Fund for covering the cost of four of today's pets. If it were not for the financial assistance that fund provides, and the weekly appointments we are allotted, I doubt my organization would still be out there doing what we do. What started out as a relatively quiet morning got busy pretty quickly. My first stop of the day was in the parking lot of Riverside County Animal Services. I went to meet a couple needing cat and dog supplies. They also have a kitten that needs 'the works'. While I was visiting with the dog, two women pulled up with a dog they found wandering the streets in Perris. They saw my blue shirt and thought I was staff. I said I wasn't but scanned the dog for them. He was a chihuahua and appeared to be a senior. It was too early to turn him in so they left to get something to eat and I left soon after to go look for a woman whose puppy I had spayed last week. ACO Omar tried to return the puppy to her but did not know where to find her. I had seen her on Limonite earlier and went back to speak to her. She said she would go get the puppy. I was concerned, because it was heating up and I did not want her big dog walking on the hot pavement. I spoke to the ACO again and said I would pick up the puppy and return it as long as her companion, and Animal Services were ok with it. I was on my way to Rubidoux but told the ACO I would swing back by when I was done. I was able to visit with five dogs in Rubidoux and I provided a few supplies. As soon as I left that location, I drove back to where the companion of the puppy was and asked if she would let me bring the puppy to her and if she would please stay in the area but away from the main road which always has fast moving traffic on it. She said it would be ok so I spoke to ACO Omar again. She was going to speak to some of the staff so I could get permission from them to get the puppy out. The shelter was not open yet so they had me knock on the door and get let in. I got the puppy, hooked her into a doggie car seat, and headed back to her companion. I spent a little time there giving the puppy and the other dog, treats and chew sticks. I gave the companion a few supplies, discussed a motel room and then returned home to eat lunch and begin my afternoon desk work... When I made my Monday morning trip, to the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside, I noticed there was nobody in the fenced area with their pets. It has been hit and miss, for the past few months. I was debating on how long to wait around, when someone came to get her two dogs out of the kennels. I got out of my vehicle with treats, in hand, and I saw someone else who was going to get her dog. There was a gentleman standing there without a dog but when I asked him to take his dog out for a visit he did. As I was getting ready to leave, someone else showed up with her dog. I visited with five and provided supplies to those in need. I was glad I stuck around but it meant I did not have time to visit another dog on the Eastside. I texted his companion and said I would do that on Friday, if he was going to be around. While I was at the kennels, a call came in from someone, in Jurupa Valley, who was supposed to meet me for dog food when I was done at the shelter. I told him what time I would be there and managed to arrive a few minutes early. I visited with his dog and provided supplies. There was a vehicle in the parking lot that belongs to a couple who has a dog and she was my last visit. I returned home from there, loaded supplies for tomorrow and then went to meet a couple of good friends for lunch. We try to get together every month and I always look forward to doing so. I am so busy with my charity that I always have to make time for myself. Every now and then, I go to see my son and his family, when they are free. Usually it is meeting a friend, or friends for lunch or others who volunteer to help with fundraisers. I don't have a large circle of people but I value those I do. After lunch, I drove home and started working at my desk... I needed to go to our storage units to pick up pet food and waters. It gets really hot, later in the morning, so I decided to go before doing my daily travels. While I was on my way, I spotted a woman, and her dog, by the CircleK. I did put my window down and said I would be back in a bit. Her dog had been sleeping but when she heard me she started running towards my vehicle. I felt bad that I could not stop but knew I would be back within the hour. After I loaded supplies at our storage units, I did stop at the CircleK, on my way home. I provided a few supplies and visited with the dog. I also discussed a room, with the companion, for when her puppy is released from her spay day. When I left that location, I went home to unload most of what I had just picked up. I spoke made two spay/neuter appointments, over the phone, and then went back out. I did not have any definite plans but was hoping to find a gentleman who has two dogs in need of the works so I headed to Fairmount Park. I did not find him but did find someone else with a pet and he was in need of dog food. While I was stopped for him, a couple of people who are supporters of our work happened to be close by and came over to say hello. I drove around the entire park and parts of Rubidoux but did not find anyone else with pets so I called it a day. When I returned home, I did a few things around the house, ate lunch and then got to work at my desk... There was only one person who asked to meet today, for dog food, and we were supposed to do that in the CircleK parking lot off of Clay Street. Before doing so, I treated my vehicle to a long overdue car wash. When I left the car wash, I went to the CircleK parking lot. The gentleman was not there and he did not respond to my phone call or text. I wasn't sure what I was going to do next but I when I realized I had forgotten to pick up something at the store, yesterday, I decided to run over and do that first. As I was walking towards the store, I saw someone on the sidewalk with his dog. As I got closer, I could see it was someone I knew. He only had one of his dogs with him. She was in need of a collar and leash so I went to my vehicle to get her both as well as a few other supplies. While I was there, someone else came up to me about a puppy he has in an area many call 'the swamp'. He would like to get 'the works' done so I gave him my contact card and told him when to call to make an appointment. From there, I headed towards Fairmount Park, making a stop in Rubidoux to visit a companion and her dog. I did not find anyone at the park with pets, but the birds, and I insects, did find my newly cleaned vehicle and made a mess all over it. I was so happy rain was not in the forecast but was not expecting to worry about bugs and birds. I guess I am not supposed to have a clean vehicle. LOL. I made one last stop at our PO Box, which was empty, and then I returned home for my afternoon work routine... Last night, I received a text from the woman whose vehicle broke down on Wednesday and was unable to pick up a dog from her spay day. She said that she picked up the dog yesterday around 1pm but that her phone was dead. She went and bought a charger but nobody would let her charge her phone, until she made it to a Home Depot in Eastvale. I did not want them sleeping in her vehicle, or chancing a drive home in the dark, so I reserved a room at the Motel6 where she would have been on Wednesday had things worked out. I let her know that I was going to the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter, on the Eastside, this morning and would drive out to the motel when I was done there. That is what I did. I visited with three dogs and provided supplies, before heading for the nearest freeway onramp towards Rubidoux. The dog I went to check on was recovering nicely and she was much more relaxed than she was when we first met. The woman who drove her had her two dogs with her as well so they all got a good night's rest. When I left the motel, I went to check our PO Box. Nothing there so I drove over to a store that I had made a purchase from yesterday. I used my Samsung Pay but when I got home, I realized it never actually charged my card for what I bought so I made it right. I kind of felt like the store clerk did not want to be bothered but I told her I needed to do it for my own peace of mind so we got it handled. I went home from there, ate lunch and then got some to work at my desk... We provided 'the works' for six pets yesterday. One was supposed to stay the night at Riverside County Animal Services, two were going back to Perris and three were supposed to stay at the motel. At 5:40pm I received a call saying that someone broke down on her way to pick up a dog but that she was back on the road. I told her the shelter would be closed by the time she made it and not to bother. We discussed her being there, this morning, and getting a motel room as soon as one was available. When I went to the motel, at 9am, I had not heard from her yet. I checked on the pets that were there and provided supplies. From there, I went to pick up a few items from the grocery store and then went to an 11am appointment. I was out by noon and still had not hear from the woman who was supposed to pick up the dog from yesterday's spay day. I emailed Animal Services, last night, when her vehicle broke down but I did not speak to anyone today. I just didn't know what to tell them. I called the woman on my way to our PO Box but her phone went straight to voicemail which is what it continued to do most of the afternoon. I hope I find out more tomorrow... Last night, I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a 'found dog' that I knew. I commented that he was a senior dog my charity provided services for and said I would try to contact his companion. I called/texted her and her boyfriend for a couple of hours, with no luck, but did speak to the finder. I gave her the information I had and said I would keep trying. At 5am, I woke up and saw a text from the boyfriend saying the dog was returned. This was done very late at night and I am so grateful to the finder for keeping him safe….Today is spay/neuter day and we had six pets scheduled, and confirmed, for 'the works'. Before anyone showed up, one of the homeless gentleman I have provided services for had a dog with him. It was not his dog so I asked what was going on. The dog looked injured and like it might possibly have mange. I checked him for a microchip but he did not have one. I gave the dog water and some chew sticks. The gentleman took him over to wait by the front doors. At one point, a woman waiting to get her feral cat fixed, told the guy she would hold on to the dog until the shelter opened. I am not sure what happened with that dog but I do have photos and will see if there is an intake photo on the website... The pets getting 'the works' were one female puppy, one male dog, one female cat and three female dogs. The puppy was brought in for me yesterday, thanks to ACO Omar. Maria Flores transported two dogs and a cat from Perris. Paige Meadows transported a dog from Perris. I want tot hank them for doing that. A friend of the companion of our last dog had someone drive her. She was forty-five minutes late. The dog had never been leashed and was very hard to handle but we managed to get her in on time. All six of our appointments were checked in, a little after 8am, and then I went home for a short time before heading out to an appointment. My afternoon was spent like most others doing what needed done at my desk. It was a busy morning. My first trip out was to meet with a companion, her dog and her puppy. The puppy is getting 'the works' and we made plans for ACO Omar was to transport her to Riverside County Animal Services. She was picking the puppy up this morning so the puppy would be ready for tomorrow's spay day. So many of the ACO's have been very helpful over the years and I am grateful, each time, I am able to get assistance. While I was at that location, I visited with both pets and then left after the puppy was loaded on the truck. From there, I stopped for fuel and then made another stop at my house to pick up something for one of the staff, at Animal Services, who is going on maternity leave. She has been my go to person, for quite some time, and I wanted to drop off a gift bag, thank her and wish her well. Before going to the shelter, I drove out to Rubidoux. There is a group of people there and we spayed one of the dogs recently. I did not get to see her, after her surgery, but I did today. I visited with her and the other four dogs that were there. I provided a few supplies and then headed over to Riverside County Animal Services. I had planned on visiting some impounded dogs I know too but I did not have time for that. I still had one more stop to make and that was the post office. A donation had been delivered from Chewy and I went to pick that up. There was a donation check as well which was very much appreciated. When I returned home, I loaded my vehicle for tomorrow's spay/neuter day, ate lunch and then got busy at my desk. My sister called me, in between the work, and it is always nice to hear from her... My first stop of the day was on the Eastside in front of the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. I visited with a total of five dogs. Three of them stay in the kennels. Two of them were also there, at one point, when their companions were in the shelter. One of the women, who has two dogs, will be exited on Thursday. She is still trying to find somewhere to go. I have been visiting her dogs, providing services and supplies since they were puppies. I am not sure how long she will stay in the area but my hope is that she can eventually move indoors. Right before I left is when I met the fifth dog and her companion. They are new to the shelter. The dog is already spayed so I gave her a few things but did not have dry dog food with me. I left my contact card and said I would bring that on Friday, because I would be going to our storage units shortly to pick up this month's donation of pet food from the Star Milling Company. When I left that location, I drove over to Progressive Graphics to order more of our t-shirts. I want to try and be sure that anyone who wants to volunteers for us one. When I left there, I drove across town to meet Seth Cox at our storage units. He picked up, delivered and helped unload all 720 pounds of pet food and I am so appreciative of his help as well as Star Milling continuing to donate to us. When I left storage, it was over 90 degrees and I was happy to get home, unload some supplies and restock others. Not sure what I am doing tomorrow yet but I will be busy at my desk this afternoon... Yesterday, I made arrangements to meet with some people and their pets today. My first stop was at Fairmount Park where I met with a mother and son with their three dogs. Two of the dogs are seniors. I have known all three since they were puppies. We visited and I provided them with needed supplies. While I was at the park, I also spent time with a couple other people and their dogs. It was not planned but I was able to provide them with a few supplies too. When I left the park, I drove out to Rubidoux to meet with another companion and her dog. I had not seen the dog in quite some time and she seemed happier than usual for the visit. I provided supplies and then returned home. My vehicle had been trying to do a software update every time I stopped and I figured it was best to get that done. I don't like doing updates, when I am out, because I am never sure how long they will take. I prefer to do them in my driveway where I can go inside while the update(s) take place. I got some work done at my desk, before lunch, and then got busy again after I was done... It is the second Saturday of the month, so I made my usual trip to Fairmount Park. Many of the people there did not bring their pets out, due to the heat, but I did have an opportunity to visit with seven dogs. I visited each one and provided supplies for most of them. When I left that location, I contacted someone who had texted me recently for dog food and we made arrangements to meet tomorrow. I had planned on stopping by Riverside County Animal Services to check on some dogs I know that are impounded but I didn't make it. By the time I left the park, it was nearly 90 degrees out and I just wanted to go get off the streets. I made one quick stop at our (empty) POBox and then returned home to begin the work I do, every afternoon, from my desk.One of the phone calls I received was from someone else needing dog food so I will take care of that tomorrow... Yesterday, I was without power from early in the morning until the afternoon. I was planning to go to the motel and check on the two dogs that were supposed to spend the night, after they were spayed. Unfortunately, their companion was not able to pick them up, Wednesday, so they did not spend the night at the motel. I didn't really have anything else planned, other than a trip to Costco for more bully sticks, so I did not have an opportunity to visit with any pets. Everything was back to normal today... I started the morning on the Eastside in front of the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. I visited with three dogs staying in the kennels there and one whose companion is still trying to secure a bed in the shelter. I provided a few supplies and then headed back over to Jurupa Valley to look for some people, and pets, I have been unable to find recently. I was unable to find one of them but did find another and then someone else showed up with his dog. In total, there were two dogs, a puppy and a kitten. I visited with the dogs/puppy and provided supplies before making a stop to pick up a few groceries and returning home. My afternoon was spent, as it usually is, by doing the work that has to be done at my desk. The mornings are always for the streets and the afternoons/evenings are for what needs done at my computer or on the phone... Maria Flores drove three dogs from Perris and a cat from Moreno Valley. We want to thank her for that. We want to thank Sabrina, with Feeding Perris Strays, for sending someone to us with her two dogs. The companion borrowed a friend's car and was in the parking lot waiting for me when I arrived. Her two dogs already had litters so I am grateful there will be no more. We would like to thank the Riverside County Department of Animal Services for the appointments they give us each week and for the Healthy Pet Zone Fund that helps us so much financially when the pets come from any of the areas that grant covers. Today it took care of five pets! With donations and grants being down, this is a huge help and allows us to continue providing much needed services. The only thing I had planned, for this morning, was to drop a monthly thank-you bag off at the workplace of the wife of our 'web master'. On my way, I drove through an area where I thought I might find people with pets but I did not. After I dropped off the bag, I headed towards Fairmount Park. I wasn't sure if anyone would be there but I thought I would take a chance. Sure enough, there were a few people in an area of the park where there was some shade. I pulled into the closest parking lot so I could visit. There were a total of six pets. Two of those need 'the works' but their companion has been unable to secure a ride. A gentleman I have known for years, had to move out of his apartment and is now back on the streets living in his vehicle. His dog received 'the works' a long time ago and he said he was willing to help. I told him I could offer him an Arco fuel card and a one night stay at the motel, if he would transport his friend, and his dogs, to the clinic. The tentative plan is to have this done on August 19th. When I left the park, I drove back to Jurupa Valley to check our (empty) PO Box and then I returned home to start my afternoon routine there... Just like most Mondays, I drove over to the Eastside to visit with pets in the kennels by the Path of Life Community Shelter. I was asked to bring a bag of dog food to someone so I did that. I also provided other supplies to her and someone else who was out there. I was disappointed to find that two dogs I thought were going to be living in a place with their companion. She told me they got housing but for some reason it did not happen. I was told why but it did not make any sense so I really don't understand. I am always reading about the homeless not trying to get housing and that none of them, really want to get off the streets but most of those people don't have a clue as to what really takes place. This woman who was supposed to get housing has been in the homeless shelter for quite some time and doing what is supposed to bring positive results yet she is stuck. I mean the shelter, with access to the kennels for her dogs, is great but it is temporary and at some point people time out and have to leave. Many wind up back at square one and it seems wrong on so many levels. In any case, this particular person is going to try and go to a council meeting. I hope she can make it and I hope they do something about her situation and others like her…..When I left the Eastside, I drove downtown to speak to Darren the owner of Back To The Grind. I printed a flyer to hang on the bulletin board there and I had a couple of questions for him. I will be working on a post, this week, for pre-sale tickets to the event and to ask for gift baskets for our raffle….My next stop was across town at our storage units. I picked up the remaining dog food that was there as well as a couple cases of water. I will be working on a donation post for a pallet of water, in the near future, as well. I returned home, to unload my vehicle and restock for tomorrow. I don't have any definite plans for tomorrow yet but I am all set for my 'daily travels' regardless. I did go back out a second time to drop a card off at the post office and to pick up more produce for my tortoise. I drove through two areas where I thought I might find people with pets but I only saw people without pets and did not stop. I got back home in time for lunch and to start getting busy at my desk... This morning, I went to Rubidoux to check on a dog an ACO transported to her spay appointment this past Wednesday. When I arrived, her companion was upset and asked me where the dog was. I thought she had already been brought back to her the day after surgery but she had not. I contacted someone at Riverside County Animal Services and she was looking into it for me. I told her that I would bring the dog back to her myself, on Tuesday, if things had not been settled by then. When I left that location, I drove back to my house to grab something to drink and was going to drive around some other areas. When I got home, I found that the power was off. It was already ninety degrees out so I was dreading how hot the house was going to get. At that point, I decided not to drive around anymore and went to visit a friend who is fostering a mama dog and her puppies. I don't normally eat fast food but being that I was hungry and didn't want to try and make myself something I picked up a veggie burrito. The power literally came back on as I was walking in the door. My thermostat is usually set at 78/79. I put it back to auto. Two+ hours later, the unit was still running, non-stop. I was grateful the power was back on but Can only imagine what the bill is going to be like from this heat wave. I am so ready for Fall! I can only imagine how ready the homeless are too...
