Thursday's Treasures 7-28-2022

At 8am, I was at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services trying to take care of yesterday's invoices, pickup paperwork and get a couple of dogs licensed. They were very busy, short staffed and had a few new people working. I spoke to the person in charge of the clinic and we may have devised a plan so things go more smoothly for us in the future. In the meantime, he will call me when the invoices are ready for payment and to let me know when I can pick up all of the paperwork for myself and those I am assisting. When I left DAS, I made a stop at home to give my dogs a potty break and then headed over to the Jurupa Valley Motel6. Thanks to 'Summer On The Streets 2022' online fundraiser, we were able to reserve five rooms. We gave seven pets and their companions some relief from the heat. Not everyone was awake while I was there but I did visit with three of the seven we had in rooms and two others that happened to be there. I ran a personal errand when I left that location and then went to Cheesecake Factory to meet a childhood friend and a visitor she has from Italy. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, plush squeaky dog toys, bully sticks and kabob chew sticks were shared.

#1730 through #1737 Get 'The Works' 7-27-2022

At the end of the morning, we had 8 cats checked in for spay/neuter appointments. This month, we provided 'the works' for 40 pets. I am pretty sure it is the largest number we have ever done in one month and that is partially due to my working with three separate places to make it happen…..We scheduled 'the works' for 10 pets today at the three different facilities. Three of those pets were dogs and the others were kittens/cats. We start out at Van Buren Animal Hospital, go to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services Spay/Neuter Clinic and end at Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center Spay/Neuter Clinic, after I get done running home to give my dogs a potty break. As of 6:00 last night, I still had not heard back from a woman with 3 dogs and another with a cat so I substituted four cats in their places. At 6:30am, I received a text that a woman who was desperate to get her female cat spayed, was not going to be able to make it. She has a job and they called her in early. I suggested she have someone else bring the cat but that did not work.. Because five of the cats being spayed/neutered today are being brought in by one person, the cancelation meant she would now be able to get them all done at two places instead of three but it left me with an unused appointment. The gentleman bringing three cats was only able to get two of them and I was unable to fill his empty appointment. I spend so much time making these arrangements, because I am trying to keep from booking appointments weeks in advance but it seems as if something always comes up. Today, I am grateful for those we were able to get done! The only items shared today were ARCO fuel cards."One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter."

#1728 and #1729 Get 'The Works' & Tuesday's Treasures 7-26-2022

We had three pets scheduled for 'the works' at Van Buren Animal Hospital today. There was one female dog, one male dog and a male cat that did not make it last week. Both of the dogs made it but the cat was a no-show again. When I left Van Buren Animal Hospital, I went home for a bit to give my dogs a potty break and make a couple of calls that I needed to be at my desk for. About forty minutes later, I went back out. This time I drove through Fairmount Park looking for a woman who said we could provide her dog with 'the works' this week. She was supposed to contact me Friday afternoon to confirm but she never did so I was hoping to ask if she changed her mind or just didn't get around to texting/calling. I know there are a number of people that have been around her who will not give permission for their pets to be spayed/neutered. I am wondering if one of them talker her out of it like they have so many others. It did not matter though, because I could not find her. I continued driving to the downtown Salvation Army. A couple of people were there for a shower and they had their pets with them. I parked, visited and distributed supplies. From there I drove across town to our storage units to get more water, pet treats and dog food. I made one final stop at our PO Box and called it a day as far as being on the streets was concerned. There are always hours of work to do, once I get home. Some of that was trying to coordinate tomorrow's spay/neuter appointments as well as reserve motel rooms as part of our 'Summer On The Streets 2022' online fundraiser. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, medium leash, 2 small bags of dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, squeaky tennis ball, plush squeaky dog toy, small Kong squeaky tennis ball, medium collar and kabob chew sticks were shared.

Monday On The Move 7-25-2022

I spent my usual time on the streets today but only visited with six pets. My first stop was at the Path of Life Ministries Community Access Shelter. Nobody was outside with their pets so I started driving to Hunter Park. While I was still on Massachusetts Avenue, I spotted two puppies and their companion sitting in the shade in front of a building. I pulled over, parked and spent some time visiting. I also distributed a few supplies. I went from there to Hunter Park but did not find anyone with pets so I continued driving until I reached Reid Park. A couple of people were there with their pets so I visited and distributed supplies there too. Not far from the park is an area where some of the homeless used to park their vehicles. None were parked at that location but a few were parked one street over. I drove to that street, visited with a dog I had not seen in a bit, passed a gentleman whose dog received 'the works' last week and met a gentleman with three cats that are now scheduled for 'the works' on Wednesday. I distributed supplies for the one dog, kittens and cat. I tried to wake someone who was parked with his two dogs but I was unsuccessful so I called it a day. Is topped to get fuel, went home for a bit, checked our PO Box and then met someone for lunch. The afternoon was spent updating social media, finalizing some of the spay/neuter appointments for the week, answering calls, replying to texts and replying to emails. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, beef/cheese sticks, small stainless steel pet dish, wet puppy food, kitty bowl, wet kitten food, wet Mother/Baby cat food, wet cat food, Inaba chicken stew for cats, Inaba Churu bites for cats, Inaba Churu ropes for cats, small bag of kitten food, small bag of cat food, individual bags of dog treats, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, small bag of dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, squeaky tennis ball, squeaky dog toy, rope toy, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.

My first stop of the day was off of Market Street near the go kart track. I met with one dog and his companion. We visited and I distributed supplies. When I left that location, I drove to a river bottom outlet in an industrial area of Jurupa Valley but nobody was there with their pets so I continued driving to Mission Avenue and Crestmore. I parked near the bridge, met with a couple of the pets that live down there and distributed supplies. In order to go to my next stop, I needed to turn around near the dog park. While I was doing that, I came upon a gentleman with a dog I thought I knew. As it turned out, we had met briefly a long time ago but the dog was not the one I thought he was. I parked for a few minutes. I was given permission for the dog to have treats and a bully stick, as long as his companion was the one giving them. I had no problem with that. I also left something for pet skin care. I had a personal errand I wanted to run that was out near Eastvale. I decided to make a slight detour to visit a family with pets and distribute supplies. I headed home after my errand and almost immediately scheduled a couple of dogs for 'the works' this Tuesday. I doubt we will have as many pets as we had last week but I will do my best to accommodate those who need appointments. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, body wipes, toilet tissue, Cool Pet Pad, pet wipes, Inaba Churu bites for cats, Inaba Churus for dogs, individual bags of dog treats, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, wet cat food, Inaba chicken stew for cats, 3–20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, STAT skin and wound care spray for pets, squeaky tennis ball and bully sticks were shared.

Monday On The Move 7-18-2022

I spent my time between two locations, this morning. Both were on the Eastside. The first was in front of the Path of Life Communities shelter on Massachusetts and the other was at Hunter Park. I visited pets, distributed supplies and spoke to people about providing their pets with 'the works'. So far, we have one male and one female cat for Van Buren Animal Hospital on Tuesday. We have one male cat for Van Buren Animal Hospital on Wednesday. We have two female dogs and two female cats for the Mary S. Robert's Pet Adoption Spay/Neuter Clinic on Wednesday. We have one female dog for Riverside County Animal Services Spay/Neuter Clinic for Wednesday. We have so many people that asked for services but have not confirmed but I am hoping that some of them get in touch with me so I can fill in the open appointment spaces. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, body wipes, RCAS dog license tags, pet safety vests, medium pet bed, fleece blanket, small leash, Max and Neo Dog Gear collar, 2 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu bites for dogs, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, plush squeaky toy, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks, bully slices and bully sticks were shared.

Sunday On The Streets 7-17-2022

Even though I did not catch up with everyone who scheduled to meet, I still visited 14 pets this morning... I was asked to meet someone who is taking care of a mama dog and her five puppies while their companion is incarcerated. We provided 'the works' for all of them a few months back, I had reserved two rooms so the dogs could be divided between them. The companion checked people in both rooms but only used one and they left it a big mess. I texted my frustration to the companion and got no reply so I texted again and suggested he never call me for assistance in the future. That being said, I explained the situation but said I was not going to turn away anyone trying to help them while he is locked up. They confirmed with me last night but never showed today! I am pretty sure I am completely done with being willing to offer any help whatsoever, after this. Because they did not show, I had to wait close to forty-five minutes for the people and pets I had scheduled to meet next. They come from another area of the river bottom that is not too far from where my first stop was supposed to be. Three people showed up with their pets. I had an opportunity to visit and they all left with supplies. My third and final stop was out in Jurupa Valley where a couple of families were with their pets and two kittens they hope to find homes for after we provide 'the works'. It was nearly 11am and it was nearly 90 degrees so I decided to call it a day. I don't like anyone dragging their pets to see me when it is getting too hot for them to walk without burning their paws. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, body wipes, toilet tissue, fly repellant for pets, Vetericyn wound care spray, 3 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu bites for dogs, bag of cat food, Inaba Churu bites for cats, Inaba Churus for cats, cat toys, 3–20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 2 collapsible pet dishes, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks, bully slices and bully sticks were shared. were shared.

Saturday's Smiles 7-16-2022

Before I even went out for my daily travels, I had to make a stop at the store to pick up small bags of kitten/cat food. We were out of both so I picked up enough to get us through the week end in hopes of receiving donations next week. I only went to one location today. It is a river bottom outlet in an industrial area of Jurupa Valley. I had planned on visiting and distributing supplies for three pets but then more people arrived with pet so I stayed to talk to them. Those three pets were not spayed or neutered so I discussed all of the options with their companions. I gave the dogs treats and chew sticks but explained that I do not give out supplies if pets are not spayed/neutered. They seemed receptive to allowing me to provide 'the works' but I have to wait and see if they follow through. Often times people say they will but they really don't have any intention of doing so. I hope that is not the case here. I also spoke to a few people about getting them a motel room for one night. That would be due to our 'Summer On The Streets 2022' online fundraiser. The rules are the same for the room as they are for everything else. Their pet must be spayed/neutered for me to rent them a room... When I left there, I drove out to Eastvale to go to Sprouts for my vegan seitan cubes and then another store for some clear sodas. On my way home, I stopped to see if there was anything at our PO Box. It was well after 11am and heating up so I was thankful to be done for the day. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, body wipes, toilet tissue, 3 small bags of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu bites for dogs, small bag of kitten food, small bag of cat food, wet kitten food, Mother/Baby wet cat food, cat food, Inaba Churus for cats, Inaba Churu bites for cats, cat toys, medium stainless steel pet dish, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared. were shared.

Friday's Furry Friends 7-15-2022

I started my morning at Fairmount Park where I visited with and distributed supplies for seven dogs and two cats. From there I went to the Eastside and stopped on Massachusetts in front of the homeless shelter but nobody was outside with pets. When I was leaving there, I saw some people on Kansas with a dog so I stopped for them. We visited, I distributed supplies and then drove out to the edge of Riverside and Colton where I was hoping to find someone with a dog I had not seen recently. I did not find them but did run into someone else I had not seen in quite some time. He had just gotten out of the hospital and was parked with his two dogs. I spent some time there and then had to get out to Riverside County Animal Services to get 1-1-year license tag and 3- 3-year license tags for four dogs. Two of them received 'the works' this week and we had updated the vaccinations of the other two which meant their licenses could be renewed. The cost was a little over $120.00 but is money well spent. We also spent $60.00 on a wellness visit for another dog this morning. I was unable to meet them there but I approved the payment. I made one final stop to check our PO Box and then headed home where I worked on a list of people and pets who will receive motel rooms this week thanks to our 'Summer On The Streets 2022' online fundraiser. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, large bag of recyclables, 3 small bags of dog food, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus for dogs, Inaba Churu bites for dogs, squeaky dog toy, pet safety vest, STAT pet wound care spray, medium leash, Tiller Tugs leash, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared. were shared.

Thursday's Treasures 07-14-2022

I would like to share that a female boxer mix named 'Cali' and her owner are now living indoors. They are not in Riverside but promised to contact me when they are back in town. We wish them all the best!!~Before doing any 'street work' today, I went to the Department of Animal Services to pay the invoice from yesterday. From there, I drove to the motel where I spent part of the morning visiting one of the pets that got spayed yesterday, one that had a well check and then two that happened to be in a room next to one I was already visiting. When I left there I visited and distributed supplies to another Jurupa Valley location, before driving across town to pick up more waters from storage. My final stop was an uneventful one at our PO Box…. This past week was a very successful one for spaying/neutering and well checks where dogs were given vaccination as well as provided with other services. As previously mentioned, we had 11 pets receiving 'the works' and seven pets for well checks. We spent $2,469.00 on services. We shared $70.00 of ARCO fuel cards and gave someone a Taco Bell gift card. This may not seem like a lot of money to some charities but it is a lot to spend in one week for one as small as this one. I put a donation tab on our post yesterday in hopes of recuperating some of our cost. This next week may or may not be quite as busy. We already have spay and neuter appointments set up at two of the three facilities for Tuesday and Wednesday. I have no problem staying this busy but I can only do it as long as there are funds to cover. That is why I continually ask for donations. It is not something I like doing but it is necessary to do the work. Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, small bag of dog food, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats, Tiller Tugs squeaky toy and bully sticks were shared.

#1709 through #1717 Get 'The Works' and Wellness Visits 07-13-2022

Another busy and very expensive day that got off to a great start. First stop was Van Buren Animal Hospital where one female cat and three male kittens were dropped off for 'the works'. A gentleman living in an area called 'the swamp' has a mother cat with two female kittens and two male kittens. He agreed to allow a woman to transport them for him and in return, I gave her ARCO cards and provided services for a male kitten she has. She met me at Van Buren Animal Hospital around 7:30am. We got the female and three males checked in and then headed over to Riverside County Animal Services to drop off the two female kittens for 'the works'. By the end of the day, the family of five received 'the works' as did the transporter's male kitten... After leaving Animal Services, I went home to give my dogs a potty break and then headed back out. This time it was to go to the Mary S. Robert's Pet Adoption Center Spay/Neuter Clinic. There we had one female dog, one male dog and one female cat going in for 'the works'. In addition, we had three dogs in for well visits which included vaccinations, nail trims and flea/tick treatments. In the afternoon, my daughter came over, helped to fix the dishwasher door and stayed for dinner. Nice ending to a long day. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Waters from Niagara Bottling Company, Taco Bell gift card, 5 ARCO fuel cards, 2-17 pound bags of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, small bag of dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, cat toys and Inaba Churus bites for cats were shared.
