First stop of the day was at the Path of Life Community Shelter, I met with three people there. One with two dogs, another with one dog and a third with a cat. We visited and I provided supplies, before heading a few miles away to look for someone who lives in her truck with two dogs. She was not feeling well when I arrived. Said she got food poisoning from a Subway sandwich. Not sure if that's what did it but I did not want to bother her for long. I visited with the dogs, provided a few supplies and then drove around the Eastside. I wasn't able to locate anyone else with pets so I made a quick stop at the store and then went to our storage units to wait for Cindy and Seth Cox to deliver our monthly Star Milling donation. (Thank You Cindy and Seth!). They stayed to unload and then we all left. While looking through a donation from VSI, I found about twenty five small bags of treats. They were for rabbits, hamster or guinea pigs. I did not have any use for them so I contacted Kimberlee with Foster Army Animal Rescue to see if they could use them. She said yes, so I dropped them off on my way back to Jurupa Valley. I made one last stop at our PO Box and saw there was a package slip. I am not sure how big the package was but my vehicle was completely filled so I will go b ack tomorrow... Bottled waters, training pads, large trash bags, chicken jerky treats, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken broth, wet cat food, small bag of cat food, wet dog food, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
This morning was both hectic and productive. It began at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic where we were providing 'the works' for two female dogs and one male dog. All showed up and were on time which is something I am always grateful for. However, while we were waiting, one of the homeless told me I had a nail in my rear passenger tire. I did not get any notifications of low pressure but there was definitely a nail. As soon as we were done, I called a local tire shop that told me to come right over. It took about thirty minutes for the repair. At that time, I drove home, fed my dog and then went back out. I headed to the Mary S Robert's spay/neuter clinic. We had one cat there for 'the works' and a dog there getting updated vaccinations, flea&tick treatment and a nail trim so he could sleep in the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter where his companion is staying. Before going to the clinic, I dropped some homemade cookies off at the adoption center to thank them for accepting 'LuLu' and her puppies into their program. When I got to the clinic, I provided needed supplies ad then got both the cat and the dog checked in. From there, I got fuel and went home to change so I could meet one of my oldest and dearest friends for lunch. Even the nail in my tire didn't stop today from being a good one! "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Bottled waters, ARCO fuel cards, harness, leash, collapsible pet dish, chicken jerky treats, Inaba Churus, Inaba chicken fillets and a 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company were shared.
My first stop of the day was at Fairmount Park. I did not find who I was looking for but did visit with four dogs and their companions. One of the gentleman said a friend gave him a puppy a couple of weeks ago. He spoke broken English so it was hard to communicate. He told me he did not know the dog's name and had not picked a name yet. We started calling him 'Papa'. The puppy was microchipped and neutered so I sent the chip number to someone at Riverside County Animal Services just to be sure nobody had reported the dog as lost or stolen. Hopefully, it is neither. When I left that location, I drove out near Agate Park in Jurupa Valley to a family I usually visit on Sundays. I did not go this past Sunday, because I was at the Bagel Brunch. This Sunday is Mother's Day and spending it with my family is the plan so I went today instead. My final stop was the post office. The checks we have been waiting for still weren't there. I drove home, after that... Bottled waters, large trash bags, medium collar and leash set, Max and Neo fleece blanket, wet cat food, wet dog food, wet puppy food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats, 2 small bags of small bites dog food, Inaba Churus, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, collagen sticks, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, kabob chew sticks, bully stick and buffalo tendons were shared.
I was supposed to meet a couple of people with pets, this morning. One was at the Path of Life Community Shelter parking lot and the other on Fleetwood in Jurupa Valley. I arrived at Path of Life around 9am. The person I was supposed to meet ran out of fuel and never made it but there were other people there with pets. One had a cat that was in the kennels. She is already spayed, chipped and vaccinated so I gave her companion supplies. The other had a dog. They are new to the shelter. He is 14, neutered and chipped but needs his vaccination updated for the kennels there. He also need flea/tick treated. We no longer offer updating vaccinations as a general rule but do it when someone is needing it for kennel purposes. I am hoping we can do it on Wednesday. I also visited with two 'regulars' there and gave them supplies too. When I left the shelter, I drove down the street to where I had seen someone earlier. She is trying to get herself and her dog into another facility. She was not in need of anything so I just visited and gave the dog a few goodies and a bully stick. From there I drove around the Eastside for about thirty minutes. When I did not see anyone with pets, I decided to run a personal errand, before heading to our PO Box in Jurupa Vallet. On my way to the post office, I drove up General Drive and visited with a couple of people and their pets. I gave each of them supplies but realized after giving one of them a large bag of dog food that his dog was not neutered. It did not feel right taking it back but I made it clear that there will be no more until he does the right thing. I have been expecting a couple of small grant checks but they have yet to arrive. I will keep checking and hoping that they do so in the near future... Bottled waters, wet cat food, wet dog food, chicken jerky treats, small bag of senior food, small bag of small bites dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, collagen sticks, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons and a bully stick were shared.
I was supposed to meet someone on Fleetwood in Jurupa Valley this morning but time got away from her and we will most likely meet on Monday now. I did drive out to Grand Terrace and visited with most of the pets that are at one of the encampments there. I also provided supplies. When I left that location, I went to meet a family at Fairmount Park. They have not been homeless for a few years now but we always try to visit every month or so. I don't get to keep up with all of the people and pets that get housing but I try to stay in touch with those who like to as well. From the park, I drove to the store and picked up more produce for my desert tortoise, checked our PO Box and then headed home. I am not going to be on the streets tomorrow. It is not because of family but I am going to the Annual Bagel Brunch, put on by the youth groups, at Temple Beth El, I will be back to my daily travels on Monday... Bottled waters, wet cat food, wet dog food, mama and baby wet kitten food, KMR Stage1 for kittens, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 2-17 pound bags of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats, collagen sticks, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, kabob chew sticks, peanut butter chew sticks, buffalo tendons and a dog toy were shared.
We had motel rooms for three of the four pets that received 'the works' yesterday. Before going to a dental appointment this morning, I went to check on those pets. In addition to the three, there were a couple others there as well. We had provided one of the with 'the works', some time ago, and she was sharing a room with her newly spayed 'sister'. The other dog was also one we provided 'the works' for a few years back. His companion rented them a room, last night. They heard me outside talking so they came out to visit and get a few supplies... I will not be doing my daily travels tomorrow, because I have a long Ophthalmology appointment scheduled, but I will be back out on Saturday... Bottled waters, socks, McDonald's gift card, canned tuna, canned pasta, soups, cereal bars, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, individual bags of dog treats, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, wet puppy food, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
Last month we provided 'the works' for 12 pets. There were 9 dogs and 3 cats. Six of the dogs were females, all three cats were females and three dogs were males. Four of the dogs were paid for by the Riverside County Department of Animal Services Healthy Pet Zone Fund….Today is the start of a new month. We had three female dogs schedule at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. I am pleased to say that all showed up and arrived on time. One of the dog's is being done with her five month old daughter. She is also the sister of two dogs we spayed/neutered last week as well as the sister to 'LuLu', the dog that had the litter of 10 now with a foster for Mary S. Robert's. There is still one more female and we will get her in next week. I normally don't do so many for one family but all of the females have had litters in the river bottom and I am doing my best to put a stop to it. When all is said and done, we will have spayed/neutered five females and one male for their companion…I made a brief trip home, after leaving the first location. My second trip was to the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic where I had a male cat scheduled for 'the works'. His companion showed up and was on time. Seems like May got off to a good start! "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Bottled waters, ARCO fuel cards, collapsible pet bowls, large collar and leash set, plush squeaky toys, 17pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, cat toys, Inaba Churus, Inaba Juicy Bites and Inaba Churu Bites were shared.
