This day got off to a strange start, beginning with my opening an article on the internet and getting spammed. I thought it was a virus at first and then realized it wasn't. I rebooted twice and then texted a couple of people for suggestions. I was given great instructions to repair the mess. I decided to deal with it when I got back home and left for the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside. When I arrived, there was only one dog out and she went back into her kennel fairly quickly so we did not visit. Because there was nobody else out with their pets, I thought I would just cut the day short and go home to deal with the computer problem. I was very pleased that the issue seemed to have taken care of itself, while I was gone. I took care of a few security precautions as well. When I looked at the clock, I saw it was only 9:30am which meant I had plenty of time to go back out. That is what I did. I drove through Rubidoux first. I was able to visit a dog and provide supplies at one of the locations but nobody was around at the other. From there I drove through Fairmount Park. I am still trying to locate a few people with pets and was hoping to either find them or someone who knew where they were. I made one stop for a dog named 'Butch'. We visited and I provided supplies. His companion told me where some of the people had moved. Unfortunately, none of them have phones on and I don't go down there. At some point, one of them will probably contact me and I will figure out how to start catching up with the others. As I was leaving the park, I saw a gentleman walking his dog and the dog is one I have visited before. I turned my vehicle around and went back to see them. I thought the dog was already spayed but it turns out that she is not. Her companion is willing to do so, as soon as he is able to get his vehicle running. I did not make anymore stops after that as I was expecting the gardener to come to my home. We don't have any grass here but there is a long planter box on the hill at the back of the house. He comes every few months to trim everything and to adjust or repair my sprinklers that always seem to have issues. The rest of the day was spent working at my desk and trying to get the spay and neuter appointments scheduled for Wednesday... Bottled Waters, flavored drink packets, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba meal toppers, Inaba Juicy Bites, Dashi meal toppers, buffalo tendons, bully stick and peanut butter knot chew were shared.
I made two stops today and both were in Jurupa Valley. The first was at the Motel6. We had recently provided 'the works' for a family staying there with multiple dogs. They were in need of supplies and I agreed to meet this morning. I met the companion in the parking lot and gave her what she needed and then she brought out two of the dogs for a visit. When I left that location, I drove across the street from Agate Park to visit a family there. One of their dog's still needs 'the works' and I am hoping to find a way to make that happen because it's long overdue. The other pets are all spayed/neutered. I visited four of the five and provided supplies. When we were done, I drove to Aldi and bought a few produce items for my tortoise. She is eating more often, now that it is getting so warm out. She is very picky so I find myself at the store more times than I care to be there. LOL... Bottled Waters, flavored drink packets, chicken jerky treats, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, chicken dental sticks, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Twins, Inaba chicken stew, Inaba meal toppers, Inaba Juicy Bites, Dashi meal toppers, wet cat food, Temptations cat treats, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons, large collapsible pet toy box and plush squeaky toys were shared.
I started my day with an appointment at Kaiser. I wasn't sure how long it was going to take so I did not make many plans. I did contact one person who stays at a motel near there and told him I would bring dog food, after I was done. He mentioned a woman staying at the same motel who needed her dogs spayed and neutered. I told him I would be happy to meet with her. When I left Kaiser, I went straight to the motel to visit with the dogs and to provide supplies. After we were done, I drove to the nearest freeway onramp and headed to our storage units to pick up waters and pet supplies. I still had a bit of free time so I contacted the companion of a couple of dogs on the Eastside. They are only available on the week-ends. The last time I went by their 'spot' they were all sleeping. This time I called and gave a 'heads up'. The dogs were happy to see me and their companion was in need of a few things so it all worked out. I had to get home, right after that. My vehicle was very full so I unloaded most of what I got from storage and loaded what I want to have with me tomorrow. I was happy to get all of that done, before the upper 90 degree heat kicked in... Bottled Waters, flavored drink packets, chicken jerky treats, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 4.5 pound bag of small bites senior dog food, small bag of Kibbles and Bits dog food, wet dog food,4.5 pound bag of small bites senior dog food, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, Nerf light up ball for dogs, bully stick, kabob chew sticks and peanut butter knot chew were shared
Before heading to the Eastside, this morning, I stopped to get fuel. As I was leaving, I saw a gentleman with a dog. He usually has two dogs with him so I pulled over to find out where his other dog was and to visit with the one he had with him. He explained the situation while I was visiting with the dog and then I provided him with supplies. I had a dental appointment but still had time to make my usual stop near the Path of Life Community Shelter. I visited with and provided supplies for two dogs. One of them has a companion in the shelter so he stays in the kennels there. The other stays in a tent with his companion. When I left that location, I drove over to University and Victoria where there is someone with a dog I like to visit. While I was there, a little white dog came walking down the sidewalk. She had on a cute collar, looked groomed and had a tag. She was hesitant to let us do more than give her a quick pet but we were eventually able to get a slip lead around her and found a phone number on her tag. The address on the tag was a Corona address so I wasn't sure what the situation was. There was no microchip. I called the number and got a voicemail. I waited for a bit and called a second time. We had a bad connection but the woman was at work. She said the dog was hers and that they had recently moved to the Eastside. She said she could not get away from work and I could not take her to the dentist with me. I called on of my Animal Control connections and gave the homeless gentleman helping me a Subway gift card so he would hold the dog until someone arrived. I told the owner what shelter the dog would be taken to. I told her I really didn't want the dog to go there but that I couldn't do much more. She called back in a bit and said her mom would come get the dog. I tried to cancel the call but it seems the ACO had already picked up the dog. I am not sure how everything went after that but I do know that dog did not get hit by a car, attacked by another dog or stolen by someone, because we were able to catch her. She was running across two very busy streets and I am thankful she did not get hurt or killed. I hope her owner knows how fortunate she is. When I left that location, I went to the dentist and was done in time to get home for lunch and start my daily work routine at my desk. Tomorrow, I have a morning appointment at Kaiser so I am not sure what all I will be able to get done but I will figure it out once my appointment ends... Bottled Waters, Subway gift card, chicken jerky treats, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food,4.5 pound bag of small bites senior dog food, 2-collapsible pet dishes with leash clips, Inaba Churu Bites, 2-Nerf light up balls for dogs, bully sticks, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks and plush squeaky toy were shared.
I spent part of my morning at the Jurupa Valley Motel6 visiting, and providing supplies for, the three pets that received 'the works' yesterday as well as three others. I also spoke to some people who need their kittens, cats, puppies and dogs spayed and neutered. Hopefully, they will start scheduling their appointments in the near future. When I left the motel, I went to Costco to pick up a few things for the charity. I was very happy to find a great deal on bully sticks and kind of wish I had bought more than two packs. After Costco, I went to the grocery store to purchase produce for my tortoise. My final stop was at out PO Box. It was empty but I try to check it daily just incase... Bottled Waters, ARCO fuel card, chicken jerky treats, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, Royal Canin mama baby wet food, Inaba Churu Bites, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, peanut butter knot chew, bully sticks, kabob chew sticks, xs Kong squeaky ball and plush squeaky toys were shared.
We have had quite a bit of success with people showing up for appointments the past few weeks but that was not the case today. We had seven pets scheduled for 'the works'. Two males and one female were scheduled at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. Three females and one male were scheduled at the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. The three for the first clinic were all confirmed. Only one showed, while I was there. The companion of the other two did not. I called the only number I had, and texted, but got no response. When I left the clinic I told them to call me if the companion showed up and that I would come back on my way to the next clinic. For some reason, nobody did that when the gentleman showed up thirty minutes late. They just checked him in without my knowledge or having met the dogs. When I left there I went home, fed my dog and went back out to the second clinic. I was only able to confirm three of the four appointments there but was hoping they would all make it. I arrived a few minutes early and immediately received a text from someone who said she could not get ahold of her ride. This is someone it took three different appointment dates to finally spay her adult female dogs. Today was to start with two of the four month old puppies but that did not happen. I called a gentleman who was having trouble earlier with his ride and that fell through too. The person I was unable to reach to confirm never answered any of my calls or texts. All four appointments were wasted and I went home. While I was there, I received a text asking me about the motel. It was from the gentleman who showed up at the first clinic, after I left. He said he got his dogs checked in. I told him I would go back down there to verify what happened and get back to him. I did go back and his dogs were there. He did not have an ID or a ride but found a friend with both so I reserved a motel room too... I knew we would not be able to reach a possible 28 this month, due to my only scheduling three when I went to visit my granddaughter and because two were no shows on the 11th, but I thought we would get 22 done. It turned out to be 18. I am grateful for those we were able to do but disappointed we were unable to do the 24 we had scheduled. "One by one we get them dine, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled Waters, ARCO fuel card 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company and a plush squeaky toy were shared.
I did not have any plans to meet with anyone again today. I decided to drive to a couple of locations and make a few phone calls trying to find a few people. I drove to the Salvation Army first but nobody was there. I usually take a drive through Fairmount Park, anytime I am in the downtown area, so I did that. I stopped at the parking lot near the old Armory to visit with a couple of dogs. Their companion showed me two small dogs that were running around near the tennis courts. She said they had been there for two or three days so when we were done, I called Animal Control and then drove over to take a look. As soon as I exited my vehicle, one of them ran off. I walked around the maintenance area where they were hanging out and one of them came running in my direction. It's hair was so matted that I could not tell if it was male or female but it did not want me to come too close. I threw a bunch of jerky treats and they got eaten but the dog still took off running behind the fenced area where the other dog was sitting. The two of them just go in and out of there all day, from what the workers told me. Animal Control was unable to catch them but left an open ticket so there will be other attempts to get them. If a rescue goes out and catches them sooner then they can figure out what to do next. Both dogs definitely need bathed and shaved. They look a bit like Maltese mixes but it really was hard to tell with the shape they were in. When I left that area, I drove to another area of the park. I was hoping the people there might have seen a group I am trying to catch up with but they hadn't. We had a short visit before I headed over to our PO Box, so I could pick up my eye drops, and then home. I was not able to make contact by phone or text with all seven pet companion's, for tomorrow's spay/neuter appointments so I just have to hope the show up... Bottled Waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, Inaba tuna fillets, DASHI meal toppers, chicken flavored dental sticks, kabob chew sticks and bully stick were shared.
Today was another one of those days where I spent two or three hours racking up miles on my vehicle but not visiting many pets. I drove to the Eastside and parked by the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter where I visited with one dog. From there I drove to Hunter Park where I did not see anyone with pets. When I left the park, I drove up Kansas Avenue on my way to look for another pet and I spotted A dog I know by his companion's vehicle. I guess they broke down there a few days ago and are waiting for a part to get going again. I visited the dog, provided supplies and drove to a few more areas on the Eastside, Fairmount Park and Rubidoux. I had no success at any of those locations. I drove to our (empty) PO Box and then headed home. I wasn't there too long before it was time to go meet some friends for lunch. After lunch, I went back home and started working at my desk. If all goes as planned, we have seven pets scheduled for 'the works' on Wednesday so I have already started a list for the following week... Bottled Waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, Inaba tuna fillets, peanut butter knot chew and bully slice were shared.
Yesterday, I was talking to a woman, at Fairmount Park, who needed food for her two dogs. The last time we met, it was with other people and four dogs in addition to hers. I told her I would meet everyone this morning by the Legion Hall. That was where I drove to first but nobody was there. I waited for a bit and then drove to another area of the park to ask someone if he had seen her or any of the people I was looking for. He had not. I visited with his dog, provided a few supplies and then drove out near the Rick Thompson Arena, and Agate Park, in Jurupa Valley. I met with the family and four of their five pets. We visited and I provided supplies. I drove around a couple other areas of Jurupa Valley afterwards but did not find anyone with pets so I went home and began working on what I do there on a daily basis... Bottled Waters, homemade cookies, fruit roll ups, wet cat food, wet dog food, DASHI meal toppers, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, peanut butter knot chew, bully slice and buffalo tendons were shared.
I had no definite plans for today's travels so I just headed to Fairmount Park. I did not find everyone I was looking for but did find a few people with pets as well as someone I was trying to reach so we could meet tomorrow. I stopped at two different areas of the park and visited with six pets. I provided supplies as well as spoke to someone about (hopefully) finally starting to spay/neuter some of her many dogs in the river bottom. When I left the park, I checked our (empty) PO Box and went home. It was actually fairly cool so I loaded supplies for tomorrow's travels, before going in for lunch and to start my afternoon of work at my desk... Bottled Waters, Benadryl caplets, large leash, collapsible pet dish with leash clip, 3.5 pound bag of Pedigree high protein dog food, wet dog food, individual bags of dog treats, Inaba fun bites, Inaba chicken fillet, Inaba Churu Bites, chicken jerky treats, peanut butter dog biscuit, bully slices, bully stick and buffalo tendons were shared.
I made arrangements to meet two people at our storage units around 10:15am. Before going to do that, I drove to the Eastside and parked near the kennel at the Path of Life Community Shelter. I visited with five pets and provided supplies to a few of them. I also shared some of my homemade cookies with the gentleman who takes care of the kennel. He works hard to make sure things are done right there and I appreciate it. For far too long, the dogs were in there with nobody giving them a voice if their companion(s) did not take care of them properly. I am grateful that is no longer the case. When I left that location, I drove across town to our storage units. I met with two different women who brought supply donations. One of them brought pet food and supplies that she had purchased and the other brought an assortment of boxes from Inaba. We were given all kinds of supplies that will be put to good use. When we were done, I loaded up my vehicle, made a quick stop at our (empty) PO Box and made my way home. I unloaded quite a bit of what was in my vehicle and filled it with what I will be taking on tomorrow's travels. I haven't quite figured out where that will be yet but I will do my best to be productive... Bottled Waters, homemade cookies, chicken jerky treats, doggie waste bags, peanut butter knot chews, bully slices, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks, small plush squeaky toy and a large squeaky ball were shared.
One of the two dog's that received 'the works' yesterday stays in a motel in Corona so we did not need to get a room for her. The other two spent the night, with their companion, at the Jurupa Valley Motel6 so I went there first thing this morning. Mother and daughter were both recuperating nicely. I started scheduling appointments for one of their puppies to get done next week. Out of eight puppies, four died of Parvo and four survived. I want to help with the four so this family is completely spayed/neutered. The trick is getting other dogs done that stay in the area with their companion. One gentleman has so many and none are spayed/neutered so they keep getting pregnant while getting others pregnant too. It is a vicious cycle that I have been trying to break for months. I am hoping to be successful at some point but have had no success to date. While at the motel, I also visited another dog that stays there with his companion. I tried to visit with one more but his companion was waiting for a ride to the doctor so I will catch them another time. My final stop was in Rubidoux. I went to see if the companion of a dog with a large growth on her foot was able to get help. She still hadn't. I still wanted to speak to her to find out if she had seen someone I have been looking for to schedule a spay appointment. She said she would give him the message. From there I made a quick stop at home and then went back out for a personal appointment... Bottled Waters, large stainless steel pet dish, wet dog food, DASHI meal toppers, chicken jerky treats, bully sticks, bully slices and a plush squeaky toy were shared.
I made plans to visit with my son and granddaughter today so I only scheduled three appointments for 'the works'. All three were for female dogs. The companion of two of the dogs were on her third chance to make the appointment so I was hoping she showed would make it this time. Everyone did show up. They were all a good twenty minutes late, which made me have to postpone my drive out of town a bit but all that did was put me in a bit more traffic. It did not keep me from going. The main issue was that we had two large dogs and one small dog and none of the people had collars or leashes for them. Thankfully, I had some that fit so we were able to get them all fitted and ready to go in. I did my usual photos and videos as well as gave everyone their paperwork, I did not stick around until they were all checked in but told them to call if there were any problems. I did not receive any calls. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled Waters, ARCO fuel cards, small/medium dog collar, 2 large dog collars, small dog leash, 2 large dog leashes, 3.5 pound bag of Pedigree puppy food, wet puppy food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food and plush squeaky toys were shared.
I did not make arrangements to meet up with anyone this morning. I decided to head over towards Fairmount Park and the Salvation Army as I usually find people with pets at either or both places on a Tuesday. I did not have any luck today so I contacted someone about a friend who needed pet food. I told them we could meet by the Fed-Ex facility off of Holly. While I was on my way, I noticed a group of people near a curb by Fairmount Park and there were two dogs there. I had actually been trying to reach the companions of both dogs so I did a u-turn and went to where they were. I was able to visit, provide supplies and then I headed out to the river bottom outlet in Jurupa Valley. Someone was waiting for me with a dog he has been caring for and another dog that followed them. His dog was still at his camp. The dogs enjoyed treats and I provided the gentleman with supplies. Just as I awas about to leave, a couple walked up with the gentleman's dog, one of their dog's and another dog that was hanging out with them. I stayed long enough to make sure each had treats and a chew. I shared all the waters I had with me, including the frozen bottle that helps keep the cold waters chilled in the insulated bag. I also shared all three of the large bags of pet food I had with me so I did not make any other stops after that, other than the Post Office where I found a donation someone had sent from Chewy. It was 93 degrees by 11am so, once again, I was happy to call it a day a little earlier than usual. I was grateful to sit at my desk and work in an air conditioned house... Bottled Waters, wound care spray for pets, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, Inaba Churus, 17-pound bag pf cat food from the Star Milling Company, buffalo tendons and bully sticks were shared.
I have been going to the Eastside every Monday and Friday for a few years now. I am never sure how many, if any, pets will be out with their companions. This morning, I was able to visit with, and provide supplies for, five pets that belong to people staying in the Path of Life Community Shelter as well as three that camp on Massachusetts Street with their companions. It was already in the 80's at 9am. I stayed for about an hour which was long enough for me to spend time with each pet. When I left that location, I got fuel, checked our PO Box and then went home, because I am still concerned about my dog... Late yesterday afternoon, my 17 year old senior ate and then went outside for a potty break. He had been out right before he ate too so I expected him to come back in quickly. Four or five minutes went by and I went out to see what he was doing. I found him, behind the shed and he was just lying there. It was really hot outside and he doesn't sunbathe so I picked him up and put him in the shade so we could walk back inside. He did not start walking so I picked him up and carried him in. He didn't want any water and didn't seem to want to walk then either so I put him on the sofa. A few minutes later, he got down to go get a drink of water. When he came back into the living room, I put him on the sofa again. His breathing was kind of fast and I was really worried being that he has kidney disease and a grade 5 heart murmur. I kept an eye on him until bedtime and then put him in his bed where he stayed until 8am. He seemed back to what his 'normal' self is these days but it is so hard to tell how he is really doing. I invited my daughter to come over today. He is always so happy when she is here and I figured she could tell me her thoughts. I am fine with him sleeping most of the time and being slower getting around, as long as I know he is not suffering. He has had a long life and I hope it continues but I won't 'force' it if he is suffering. Time will tell but I couldn't bear Losing my dog on Father's Day when I've already lost so many of the important men in my life. Please think good thoughts for my 'Sammy'... Bottled Waters, 2-collapsible pet bowls with leash clips, small leash, 2 plush squeaky toys, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons and bully sticks were shared.
I had to cook something this morning so I got off to a later start than usual. It was already heating up, by the time I left the house. My first stop was for a little dog in Rubidoux and I also visited three small dogs that stay on the property next to him and his companions. I provided a few supplies and then headed out to another location in Jurupa Valley. On my way there, I was sitting at a redlight when I noticed a pit bull tied to a sign post. I didn't see anyone at first and then spotted a gentleman I had actually just been thinking about. The dog was with him and he had her tied there while moving his carts down the street. Someone gave the dog to him and he was unsure if she was spayed. I asked him to go to the nearest vet and have them check. If she is not then I will help him get that done. I did give him a few supplies for h er and then got back on the road. I drove to an area where I usually find a family parked in their RV. They were not there so I drove a few blacks away to another spot where I met them last week. They were not there either. I called and found out the couple got hired to do something today and were not nearby so I decided to call it a day. It was already 85 degrees out and I wanted to get back home before temps hit the upper 90's. I had plenty of work to do at my desk so I was not sorry to cut my time a little short... Bottled Waters, large stainless steel bowl, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, DASHI meal toppers, 3.5 pound bag of Pedigree high protein, small plush squeaky toy, kabob chew sticks and a bully stick were shared.
Yesterday, I made arrangements to meet a few people at a river bottom outlet near the Fed-Ex facility in Jurupa Valley. Not everyone showed up but the person who was unable to make it in time to her spay appointments this past Wednesday did and we discussed getting her dogs in this week. My hope is that it all works out this time especially because she has a few four month old puppies that need to be spayed/neutered as well. She said there were originally eight puppies but four died of Parvo. I normally say the limit is two per companion but I also try to spay/neuter entire families so the breeding stops. As long as the companion makes it to appointments, I will help as much as possible. One of the people showed up with her dog as well as a puppy that actually belongs to someone else. I was told that puppy needs 'the works' and suggested her companion call between 1pm and 4pm to get it scheduled. When I was about to leave, another gentleman showed up. He had a dog with him but it was not his dog. I gave the dog treats and a chew stick and headed across town to our storage units to pick up pet food. I am so grateful for the extra twenty pound bags Star Milling gave us this month. It should help me get through to the next month without having to purchase any of the larger bags. I'm still unsure what my plans are for tomorrow. I don't have anyone to celebrate Father's Day with but I don't know what people's plans are. I will figure things out in the morning... Bottled Waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, wet cat food, DASHI meal toppers,17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 20-pound bag of dog food from, the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, peanut butter knot chews, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and bully slices were shared.
I had a dental appointment, this morning, but still had time to drive over to the Eastside beforehand. My first stop was on Massachusetts. Someone who had been in a motel, with her dog, was back on the street trying to secure a bed again at the Path of Life Community shelter. We visited and I provided supplies. Next I drove up the street and parked near the kennel. I visited with two dogs and provided supplies. My final stop was over by University and Victoria where I visited a dog and provided supplies. I tried calling other people, with pets, that stay on the Eastside but could not reach anyone so I went home, gave my dog a potty break and headed out to my dental appointment. After that, I went back home, had lunch and continued with my usual afternoon work tasks... Bottled Waters, insulated cooler packs, doggy waste bags, chicken jerky treats, 16 pound bag of Pedigree for big dogs, 4 pound bag pf senior dog food, DASHI toppers, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons, bully sticks and two squeaky balls were shared.
We provided 'the works' for five pets yesterday. The two dogs were going to spend the night with the volunteers from Feeding Perris Strays that transported them to and from their appointments. One of the cat's belongs to a veteran who is housed so that cat went home with him. The remaining two cats live with a couple in the river bottom. Because one of those cat's required extra services and because it was in the 90's, I put them in a room last night. Those were the only pets I checked on, in person, this morning. While at the motel, I did visit with a little Chihuahua we provided 'the works' for not too long ago. His companion stays at the motel with her son and I had an opportunity to visit them as well. When I left the motel, I ran a few personal errands and picked up a couple of supply donations waiting for me at our PO Box. The rest of the day was spent at my desk working on phone calls, emails, texts, scheduling future spay/neuter appointments and updating our social media... Bottled Waters, chicken jerky treats, Inaba Churus, wet dog food, 3.5 pound bag of Pedigree small bites, kabob chew sticks and a plush squeaky toy were shared.
Long Day. Long Read~ For the past three weeks, we have had all seven pets show up for their appointments and I was hoping to keep that going. Everyone confirmed so I thought we were good but that was not the case. We had three female dogs scheduled for 'the works' at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. The dog from a homeless gentleman in Perris, that we learned about through feeding Perris Strays, was transported by a volunteer of theirs and she arrived early. The other two dogs were coming from the river bottom near Holly Street by the Fed-Ex facility. We had problems last week when the companion did not confirm and she lost her appointments. I told her then to confirm this past Sunday to be sure she got in this week. She did not and I spent two days calling and texting before finally reaching her. When I did she said she was coming. She was not at the facility at 7:30am so I began calling and texting. I got no reply and started driving home at 7:45am. I continued calling and she finally answered telling me her car broke down but she got a ride and was almost there so I turned around and went back. She still wasn't there a little after 8am but said she was on Limonite. I waited until 8:15am and then had to leave. She wasted my time, fuel and most of all two appointments. I would have tried to wait a little longer but I had to go home, feed my dog and then go back out to the second clinic. I had four pets scheduled for 'the works'. There were two male cats, one female cat and a female dog. The dog was another referral from Feeding Perris Strays and they had a volunteer drive her because her companion does not have a vehicle. While on my way to the clinic, I received a call from the woman who was due at the first clinic at 7:30am. She had just gotten there at 9am. I told her it was too late now. She asked if I would reschedule and I told her I would have to think about it being that this is the second time she has made a mess of my appointments. Last time, I was able to get two other pets in but I could not this morning. I also received a text from Sabrina with Feeding Perris Strays. The female dog we had scheduled would not be making her appointment but the companion had another female dog so we would need to substitute her. She had sagging skin, that seemed to be from birthing litters. She required antibiotics but everything worked out fine. The two male cats both had issues but the one more than the other, after being in a cat fight so I was called to authorize extra services for him. I had not planned on spending that amount on one cat but he had to have the other services and medications if we were going to get him neutered. In the end, Two female dogs, two male cats and one female cat received 'the works'. I was disappointed that all seven appointments did not get used this week but grateful for the five that did. Four of the appointments were for pets of people who are unhoused and the other for a pet living with a Veteran. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled Waters, Arco cuel cards, wet dog food, wet cat food, 2-17- pound bags of cat food from the Star Milling Company, DASHI meal toppers, 2-20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company and a plush squeaky toy were shared.
I wasn't able to make contact by text or phone call to ask if anyone needed pet supplies so I decided to just drive around. I started with a dog in Rubidoux. While I was visiting her, and providing supplies, a gentleman rode up on his bike. His dog was not with him. He told me she was at his 'camp'. I had not seen them in quite some time and suggested we meet by the train off of Market Street. After I was done in Rubidoux, I drove over to where we agreed to meet. He was supposed to bring another gentleman and his dog too. I waited for thirty minutes but nobody showed! Because Cindy and Seth Cox were meeting me at our storage units with our pet food donation from Star Milling, I could not wait any longer. I was disappointed to only visit one pet today but there wasn't much I could do to change that. We have seven scheduled, and confirmed, for spaying/neutering tomorrow. I am hoping all goes as planned... Bottled Waters, wound spray for pets, wet dog food, DASHI meal toppers, 16-pound bag of Pedigree for big dogs, chicken jerky treats, plush squeaky toy, squeaky tennis ball, peanut butter knot chew and buffalo tendon were shared.
This morning, I made my Monday trip to the Eastside where I went to the Path of Life Community Shelter and parked off of Massachusetts Avenue. Unfortunately, nobody was outside with their pets and it turned out to be a wasted trip. I made a few phone calls to see if I could meet up with people at different locations but phones were either off or nobody answered so I drove over to Fairmount Park. I made two stops there at two different areas of the park. I visited with five dogs and provided a few supplies. When I left the park, I made a couple more phone calls, to see if I could mee tup with some people in Jurupa Valley, but I encountered the same issue. Either nobody answered or the phones were off. There wasn't much else I could do so I went home and got back to trying to contact the spay and neuter appointments for this week. Nobody confirmed with me yesterday so I wasn't sure what to expect. By 3pm, I had all seven appointments confirmed and sent in so I hope it all works out... Bottled Waters, wet dog food, 3.5-pound bag of Pedigree for small dogs, chicken jerky treats, bully slices, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
I was up early so I could get a bunch of baking done. I have a few places that I need to give a 'thank-you' to and the baked goods work well for that. As soon as I was done and cleaned up the mess, I headed out to visit a family I had not seen in a few weeks. They had not been at the location where I usually visit and I don't drive out to where they have been staying. They let me know that even though they were not where they usually park their RV, they were not too far from there, so I went over there today. One of the dog's was sprayed by a skunk so I was trying not to breath put of my nose. LOL. The dogs all seemed happy to see me. One of the cat's did too. I provided them with supplies and then went back to the store again. I have been doing a lot of baking this week and I needed to replace what I used up. I like to keep a good selection of ingredients here so I can bake if I get a special request or if the freezer starts running low. I did not make any other stops, because I needed to get home and start working on confirming the spay/neuter appointments for Wednesday so I can get them sent in tomorrow. At this point in time, I am not totally sure how many I will have but it appears to be six or seven. Time will tell... Bottled Waters, wet cat food, wet dog food, DASHI meal toppers, Inaba Churus, 8-pound bag of senior dog food, 16-pound bag of Pedigree dog food, 17-pound bag of cat food food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats and buffalo tendons were shared.
Things did not exactly go as planned today. I did do some baking, before I hit the streets, but today's travels were not very productive. I thought I was going to be meeting with a group of people with their pets at a river bottom outlet near the Fed-Ex facility on Holly Lane. Just one person showed up and she only had one of her two dogs with her. I waited for a good twenty minutes or more thinking others might come late but that wasn't the case. From there I drove over to the Eastside to visit a gentleman and his two dogs. They are only at their spot on the week-ends so I was sure I would get to spend some time there. I was wrong. One of the dog's came over to the fence and I heard the other crying for me in his carrier but the gentleman was sleeping. I called out a few times but he did not wake up so I left. He did text me later to let me know he would be around tomorrow but I am not driving back there again when I was already on the Eastside yesterday, today and will be back Monday. When I left that location, I drove over to where 'Solo' and his companion were. We visited and I provided a few supplies. The morning was pretty much gone, at this point, so I headed over to our (empty) PO Box and then home for lunch and the rest of today's work. Some of that included working on the spay/neuter appointments for the next couple of weeks. I might be doing six or seven this coming Wednesday but the following week I will not be doing more than three so I can spend some time with my son and granddaughter... Bottled Waters, wet dog food, DASHI meal toppers, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats, peanut butter knot chews, bully slices, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons and a Kong squeaky ball were shared.
I started my day on the Eastside by parking near the Path of Life Community Shelter on Massachusetts Avenue. I wasn't sure who all might be there with their pets but I did ask someone needing cat food to meet me on that street. She did show up as did someone with a puppy and two people who stay in the Path of Life Community Shelter and keep their dogs in the kennel there. When I left that location, I drove to the workplace of the wife of Ralph Torres who has been donating his time, and skills, to keep our website going. He has been doing this for many years and has never been willing to accept payment. Last year, I decided that homemade baked goods for him and his wife as well as toys and treats for their family of cats was a small way to show my appreciation. It definitely is not nearly enough for the work that has been done and continues to be done now. After dropping off the gift bag, I ran a couple of personal errands to pick up a few ingredients for baking and then I made a quick stop at our (empty) PO Box, before heading home for lunch and to start the work I do daily from my desk... Bottled Waters, stainless steel pet dish, collapsible pet dish with leash clip, 6-pound bag of small bites dog food, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet cat food, DASHI meal toppers, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, Inaba Churus, chicken jerky treats, peanut butter knot chews, bully slices and kabob chew sticks were shared.
I spent my time this morning at the Jurupa Valley Motel6. We had four of the seven pets that were spayed/neutered yesterday in rooms there and I went to check on them. While I was there, I visited with a few other dogs too. I also met up with a couple who stay at the motel and have a family member in the river bottom who needs his two dogs spayed/neutered. I took down the information and set them up for the 18th. I am hoping to visit with my granddaughter that day so I only plan to schedule three pets. Looks like there is only one spot left for that day. I already have six pets scheduled for the 11th and just need to fill one more spot there too. Not sure what is going on but I am getting more and more calls from people who want to spay/neuter. It's a good thing for sure considering so many are offered the service for their pets but decline. When I was done at the motel, I treated myself to my bi-weekly nail appointment and then went home to have lunch and start the work I do from my desk... Bottled Waters, medium dog collar, chicken jerky treats, peanut butter knot chews and kabob chew sticks were shared.
Yesterday, I took the morning off, due to a long Ophthalmology appointment but I got right back to work today……We had seven pets scheduled for 'the works' today. Four male dogs and three female dogs. Two of the female dogs and one of the males had appointments at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. One of the people arrived a little late but everyone showed up and I was still able to leave around 8am. From there I went home to feed my dog and then went back out to the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. The four dogs being done at the next clinic belonged to three different people. I am thankful to say that they all showed up too. I had to go to our storage units to pick up pet food and waters so I wasn't there when each checked in. However, I did receive a phone call letting me know one of the dog's needed a hernia repair, pain meds and antibiotics in addition to all of the other services. Another dog needed his dew claws removed and pain meds, in addition to the other services. I did not make any other stops, after going to storage. I just went home and got everything unloaded and then loaded supplies for tomorrow, before starting my daily work routine at my desk. "One by one we get them done, Because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled Waters, ARCO fuel cards, 2 large dog collars, large dog leash, 6 pound bag of small bites dog food, wet dog food, 2-16-pound bags of Pedigree for big dogs, 3-20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, DASHI meal toppers, large Kong ball and a 2 plush squeaky toys were shared.
I made my Monday morning trip to the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside but only one person had her dog out of the kennel. I visited for a bit, provided supplies and headed to Fairmount Park. I had received an early morning phone call from someone needing dog food so I went to the park to find them. We visited, I provided supplies and then drove around a few other areas of the park. I have a long Ophthalmology appointment tomorrow morning and won't be doing my daily travels. I usually visit someone and her two dogs on Tuesdays. I wanted to let her know and ask if she needed anything but I did not find her. While looking, I did come across another dog and her companion so I stopped for a visit with them. My final stop was in the parking lot of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. I was asked for cat and dog food by someone who stays in the river bottom near there. She met me with her dog and I provided her with the supplies she needed for the the dog and her cats. After our visit, I went home and started my work routine from there... Bottled Waters, large leash, doggie waste bags, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, 16-pound bag of Pedigree for big dogs, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Wellness and other wet cat food, DASHI meal toppers, bully sticks. peanut butter knot chews, buffalo tendons, large Kong ball and a plush squeaky toy were shared.
It was only 82 degrees this morning but the humidity reminded me a bit of my childhood in upstate New York. I had planned to visit with six pets today. Most of them in three different motels on the west side. One of the people had her phone turned off and she did not answer the room phone. Another person had to leave to go somewhere earlier than I thought. A third person seemed to be sleeping. His phone went straight to voicemail and he did not answer his door. When all was said and done, I visited three pets at two of the motels and provided supplies for each of them. When I left the second motel, I ran some errands and then arrived back home by 11am. I reached out to the companions of the pets scheduled for 'the works' on Wednesday, had lunch and then got to work on our social media, emails, texts and answering phone calls... Bottled Waters, Benadryl caplets, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, 16-pound bag of Pedigree for big dogs, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, DASHI meal toppers, bully slices, peanut butter knot chews and buffalo tendons were shared.
