The first part of my morning was spent by the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. I visited with five pets. They all got treats and I provided supplies for the four that were already spayed or neutered. When I left that location, I went to City Hall where Kathy Martinez and I had scheduled a meeting with councilmember Philip Falcone. We discussed the work done by Taking It To The Streets with Lori and Shira and discussed ways we might be able to assist each other in the homeless community. On my way home from there, I stopped at the post office. There was a donation check there that will be very helpful, once I find out the protocol for spending and record keeping... Bottled waters, 2 handmade pet jackets, small harness and leash set, chicken jerky treats, small bag of senior dog food, wet dog food, simply Cesar chicken for dogs, Inaba Churus, Inaba Juicy Bites, kabob chew sticks, bully slices, bully sticks, buffalo tendons and Inaba meal toppers were shared.
Before dropping off a bag of baked goods and kitty treats/toys at the office of the wife of the person who does our website, I made a stop at Fairmount Park. Someone had asked me for a sleeping bag for his dog to have on the back seat of his truck. When I went to storage, the other day, I grabbed a couple and was holding one of them for this purpose. When I arrived at the park, someone else was in the same parking lot with his dog. I gave him the second sleeping bag. Both gentleman were provided with supplies and then I went to drop off the gift bag. From there, I drove through Rubidoux, on my way to the Jurupa Valley Motel6. I spotted a couplie sitting with a dog so I stopped to give them my card and a little information about the services we provide. I arrived at the motel a little before 10am. I was there to check on the dogs that received 'the works' yesterday and to wait for the transporter to pick up the dog that was going to Mutts In Need Rescue in Newport Beach. I left the motel a little before 11 and made a quick trip to Costco. I was hoping it would not be too busy yet but that was not the case. I just wanted to go in and get out so I did not do much browsing. I put a few cases of Premier shakes in my cart and a couple of gift cards and was out of there in less than thirty minutes. I had planned on stopping at our PO Box but I sliced my thumb open on the corner of one of the boxes of protein shakes and I decided to go straight home to clean it up and get a band aid on it. We aren't expecting anything so it wasn't important for me to get there anyway. I have a busy morning tomorrow but will stop there when I am done... Bottled waters, sleeping bags, chicken jerky treats, Tiller Tugs tug toy, Tiller Tugs collar, xl neon collar, medium stainless steel pet dish, bully sticks, buffalo tendons and Inaba meal toppers were shared.
Because of our finances, we will not be doing more than two or three pets a week for the remainder of the year and hope to be able to keep that up. If things change, we will do more but for now we are doing what we can... We had three pets schedule for 'the works' today. All females coming from the same area of the river bottom. One of those dog's was dumped and Mutts In Need in Newport Beach was kind enough to take her in. Before doing so, I wanted to be sure she was spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and flea & tick treated. I am happy to say that the person driving the women with the three dogs not only arrived on time but was early. I gave their driver an ARCO fuel card and will be putting him in a motel room for the night. It was important to get the dogs done today and I am grateful this gentleman kept his word and drove. Tomorrow morning, I will go to the motel to check on the dogs and hope to be there when the rescue's transporter comes to pick up the dog. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled waters, ARCO fuel card, 2 pet jackets, large leash, 14 pound bag of Pedigree dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet puppy food and Inaba meal toppers were shared.
When I left home this morning, I drove through Rubidoux and then on to Fairmount Park. I tried calling a couple of people but their phones were turned off so I just drove around. The first pet I visited was 'Butch' and then I drove to another parking lot to visit with 'Buddy' and 'Luna'. Their companion told me about someone who was at the Budget Inn and was trying to get into Mercy House. I tried calling her but she did not pick up so I called the motel directly. The owner went and knocked on her door and asked her to call me. She did and then I drove over there to visit with her dog 'Raleigh'. By the time we were done, I needed to get on the road so I could meet Seth Cox at our storage units. He picked up our monthly donation of 400 pounds of dog food and 170 pounds of cat food from the Star Milling Company. He delivered it and then helped get it unloaded. I can't thank him enough for volunteering his time, and fuel, to do this for us. Because of the kindness and generosity of Star Milling and of Seth, many pets of the homeless will be provided with a few of their meals... Bottled waters, sleeping bags, xl neon dog collar, large leash, handmade pet jacket, Wellness wet cat food, Tiller Tug squeaky tug toy, doggie waste bags, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba tuna fillet, Inaba chicken fillet, Inaba meal toppers, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
I spent my morning on the Eastside. My first stop was on Massachusetts outside the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. The office was closed but the people still brought their pets out for a bit. I visited with five of them and provided supplies as well. One of the pets needs neutered so I asked the companion to call me and schedule an appointment. When I left that location, I headed up Massachusetts towards Chicago Avenue. There were quite a few people hanging out down there, being that code enforcement was not going to be around. I stopped to visit with one dog and wound up meeting a woman who has one too. Hers is a four month old great Dane puppy and he needs 'the works'. The woman's daughter has a female shepherd that needs 'the works' and I am hoping to get them in during the first two weeks of December. We have not received funds from Lori's Birthday Fundraiser yet and our other donations have not increased so I had to cancel all spay and neuter appointments at the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic for the remainder of the month and may have to do so again in December. I am hoping we have enough to keep our three weekly appointments at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic but I have to take things one week at a time. A jury duty summons for the week of Thanksgiving means I will most likely have to cancel all three appointments for that week. So much is up in the air but I am doing what I can and remaining hopeful that things will pick up both monetarily and with supply donations so I can continue my daily travels along with the spaying and neutering. Even doing less than we used to is a good thing. I just don't want to have to take a break from it. Things don't always work out the way I want them to but people always come through to help. All we need are one or more of the following: new donors, businesses to sponsor us or grants to finally come through and things will improve... Bottled waters, 3 handmade pet jackets, medium dog collar, small collar and leash set, Tiller Tug squeaky tug toy, 2-squeaky Kong balls, wet dog food,14 pound bag of Pedigree, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks and bully slices were shared.
I made a special trip to the Eastside this morning, so I could visit with a couple of dogs that are not available when I am not on that side of town every Monday and Friday. I visited, provided supplies and then set out for the nearest freeway onramp for Jurupa Valley. On my way, I spotted a gentleman pushing a stroller with a dog I don't see very often. I made a little detour and pulled into the nearest parking lot so we could visit. After our visit, I got on the 60 freeway and went to Jurupa Valley. I made a little pit stop at the new ALDI out there and then visited a family staying near Agate Park in their RV. One of the dog's was taken for a walk, right after I arrived, so I did not spend much time with her but did visit with the other three. No kitty visits today either. Before leaving, I provided a few supplies and made sure each of the dogs had a buffalo tendon to chew on. Tomorrow is Veteran's Day and the Path of Life Community Shelter's office will be closed. Holidays usually mess things up for the pets in the kennels there but I will go and check things out, just incase anyone is expecting me... Bottled waters, 3 handmade pet jackets, Wellness wet cat food, Inaba Churus, 14 pound bag of Pedigree, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons, kabob chew sticks and bully slices were shared.
I made arrangement to meet some people in Jurupa Valley at a river bottom outlet by the Fed-Ex facility. Two of the dogs are getting 'the works' on Wednesday and needed collars and leashes. One of those dogs was dumped a couple of weeks ago and will be going to the Mutts In Need Rescue, after her visit to the spay clinic this week. There were a total of seven dogs at that location. Two of the males that came up were not with their companions but I asked the woman they followed there to pass my information so we can work on getting them scheduled. One of the gentleman who came to meet me needed food for his cat as well as his dogs. I was able to provide him with both as well as additional supplies for all three. When I left that location, I was just going to go to the post office and Walgreen's. I did not plan on visiting anymore pets. However when I was leaving Walgreen's there was a gentleman sitting outside with his dog so I spent a few minutes with them. The dog was not in need of any food but I did provide a few other thing... Bottled waters, Gatorade, 6 handmade pet jackets, 3 collars, 5 leashes, Wellness wet cat food, Inaba Churus, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons and bully slices were shared.
It is Friday so I wore my red shirt to honor those deployed and made my usual trip to the Eastside. I parked on Massachusetts near the Path of Life Community Shelter kennels. While I was there I met some puppies that recently lost their mama to a hit and run car. The people with the puppies were asking questions about vaccinations. The puppies were still too young for vaccinations. I mentioned that I don't cover vaccinations unless we are spaying/neutering so they would be responsible to get them started. While I was there, I also visited with three dogs and a kitty. I provided supplies to each of them. When I left that location, I drove out to our storage units. I needed to drop a few items off for the 'Home Street Home' gift bags as well as pickup waters, wet cat food, dry cat food and pet jackets. We are running low on some of the sizes and out of others. The person who makes them is busy sewing more for us so we should have those in the near future. After leaving our storage units, I made a quick stop at the post office before going home to unload and then reload for tomorrow's travels. When I was done, I went to meet Kathy Martinez for lunch. She has been volunteering for us a grant writer for many years now and it is always nice when we can meet for lunch and chat... Bottled waters, three handmade pet jackets, large stainless steel pet dish, small bag of adult dog food, wet dog food, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, chicken jerky treats, YAK cheese stick, buffalo tendons and bully slices were shared.
t's been another windy day here in the Inland Empire. For the past three days, we have been getting warnings that Southern California Edison might be turning the power off because of fire hazards. So far, we have been fortunate but I know that can always change... We spayed/neutered three cats yesterday but did not have anyone in the motel. That left me with no real plan for today so I decided to drive around and look for people with pets around Jurupa Valley and Fairmount Park. On my way, I made a stop to bring homemade baked goods to one of our supporters. She not only donates needed supplies and makes monthly recurring donations but also made one big donation that was nearly half of what we raised for 'Lori's Birthday Fundraiser'. Her work is not far from the area I was going to start driving around in so I brought her the goodies as a thank you. I can't bake for everyone who volunteers or donates but when people are local I do make the effort. I don't take any donations or help for granted. I appreciate all of it! After dropping off the baked goods, I drove to a motel on Mission where someone has been temporarily 'housed' while looking for permanent housing. We visited and I provided supplies. After that, I drove through Rubidoux and went to Fairmount Park. I went to one of the back lots where there were a few people with their dogs. All of the pets received treats and supplies. After that visit, I went home so my dog could have a quick potty break and then I left for my nail appointment. I may not go anywhere that I need my nails to look nice but it still feels nice getting them done... Bottled waters, Cosequin chews for dogs, two large stainless steel pet bowls, two handmade pet jackets, two xl neon pet collars, 20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 14-pound bag of Pedigree dog food, wet dog food, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons and bully slices were shared.
It was an all-cat day for spaying and neutering. The Santa Ana winds were roaring this morning but everyone showed up for their appointments and all were on time. We had two male cats and one female cat. The cost for the services for the two males were being covered by Riverside County Department of Animal Services Healthy Pet Zone Fund and we covered the cost for the female cat. No motel rooms were needed so that is an expense we did not have to deal with this week. When I left the clinic, I went home for a bit and then drove out of town for a few hours to visit with family. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." ARCO fuel cards, 2-17 pound bags of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 3 cat feeding dishes, Wellness wet cat food and wet kitten food were shared.
My first stop of the day was at one of the river bottom outlets in an industrial area of Jurupa Valley. We had spayed and neutered a few dogs for someone there and we were even able to find a foster/rescue when one of them was pregnant. Mary S. Robert's agreed to provide a foster for the mama and babies and then we provided the mama with 'the works' so she could go back to her companion. The dog's name is 'Lulu' and she is the dog that was brought up for a visit. Her companion actually has five or six dogs but it is too much bringing them so she tries to have a different one there whenever we are meeting. When I left that location I drove around Fairmount Park. I made two stops there and provided food and supplies for three dogs. When I left the park, I drove around Rubidoux for a bit looking for the people who asked me to spay/neuter their pets but I did not find any of them. I made two stops to purchase more items for the Animal Victory 'Home Street Home' project. I spent the last of the donation money I have received so far and a little bit of ours, before making a final stop at the post office. Tomorrow is spay/neuter day and we have three cats scheduled. I am hoping they all show up and on time... Bottled waters, Gatorade, socks, chicken jerky treats, handmade pet jackets, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Millig Company, wet dog food, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, two large individual bags of jerky, buffalo tendons, plush Halloween squeaky toy, plush squeaky toy and four Halloween glow in the dark squeaky balls were shared.
This morning, I went back to a location I visited yesterday so I could catch up with some of the people and pets I was unable to connect with yesterday. Four of the dogs already received 'the works' and one is scheduled for the thirteenth of this month. I also met with someone who came for cat food. We already provided 'the works' for his females but the male has had some type of respiratory thing going on and until that gets figured out, we have to wait. All of the pets received treats, some type of chew stick and a variety of supplies. I did take a quick drive through Rubidoux, looking for the little stray I saw yesterday but I did not see it. I saw other people with pets but did not want to take the time to stop. Because my son and his family are coming up for a bit, I wanted to get home and take care of whatever needed done for social media etc., so I could spend quality time with family. My daughter took the day off Friday to be with me and we went out for a birthday lunch. She had out of town plans for today but is supposed to meet us afterwards for my birthday dinner. Time spent with family is definitely a gift in itself! Bottled waters, large bag of recyclables, socks, 5 handmade pet jackets, medium neon dog collar, xl neon dog collar, 2-xl neon leashes, glow in the dark squeaky Halloween ball, Kong squeaky ball, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, small bag of adult dog food, 14 pound bag of Pedigree dog food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Twins for cats, Inaba Churus, Wellness wet cat food, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, wet dog food, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons and bully slices were shared.
Before leaving for my first destination, I stopped for fuel. As I was getting ready to exit the parking lot, I noticed a dog running loose. The dog looked familiar so I drove closer to get a better look. When I was sure it was her, I parked. I asked a couple of guys if they knew where her companion was. He was actually sleeping pretty close to where we were. I have never seen her off leash so I woke him up to find out where her leash was. He did not even know she was there. When he went out earlier, she was not with him but I guess she left their encampment and went to find him. In addition to a pet jacket and other supplies, I gave him a leash so he could get her back safely. While I was there, two people came up to me that need their pets spayed and neutered and I ran into a couple whose dogs we spayed/neutered a few years back. Needless to say, I had to text the person I was originally supposed to meet and tell her I was running a few minutes late. I am never late, unless a pet is concerned…The reason I was going to meet that person was to check a dumped dog for a chip. The woman who is caring for her had other dogs with her too. I am not sure she planned on that but they followed her from where she camps so they all got treats and chew sticks. The dumped dog did not have a chip. She is a purebred Doberman and I have no idea why she was dumped. Seems like people need less of a reason to do so these days. I was thinking that maybe she was left from a litter that got sold but I can't say for sure. The homeless woman would love for a rescue to take her but I don't know how to make that happen right now. I am going back to the area tomorrow to bring supplies to other dogs that stay in encampments near hers. If she come up again, I will continue the discussion. When I left that location, I drove through Rubidoux. I spent about thirty minutes trying to catch a little dog that kept running back and forth across Mission Blvd. I was unable to get it and still needed to go to the post office and the store so I had to go. I will look again tomorrow, when I drove through the area again... I got home around 11:30 and at 12pm a call came in saying someone had my wallet. It is a long and complicated story but the good news is that the most of the cash and ARCO card was gone but everything else was still in it. The only thing they missed was a 100 dollar bill folded up and tucked in with some receipts. I rarely have cash so I keep that on hand in case of emergency. It's been there for two or three years. Looks like I will be needing to use it now! The woman who returned it was visiting family. She was not even from here. It was crazy that she even spotted it. It was sitting on a bridge as if someone took the cash and fuel card and tossed the wallet out their window. It was not found anywhere near where I had last used it an hour prior. So nice to know there are still good, honest people on this earth. Many years ago, I left a wallet in a shopping cart and never got it back. Two or three years ago, one fell out of my purse as I was loading it into my vehicle and I later found it with a note in my mailbox (after I had just called and canceled all of the cards). I think I need to put a beeper on my wallet now. I started using a larger wallet, figuring it would work out better but then today happened. I am just grateful for the way it all worked out! Bottled waters, Premier protein shakes, handmade pet jacket, xl neon leash, glow in the dark squeaky Halloween ball, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba meal toppers for dogs, wet dog food, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons and bully slices were shared.
This morning, I went to the Eastside. My time was spent in front of the Path of Life Community Shelter and down the street on Kansas Avenue. I planned on making a couple more stops but had some personal errands to run before my daughter picked me up for a birthday lunch. I will be back out tomorrow... Bottled waters, socks, chicken jerky treats and bully slices were shared.
