My first trip this morning had me arriving across town at our storage units by 7am. It was nice loading up supplies before the temperatures heated up. I was home by 8am, unloaded my vehicle and re-loaded with supplies for today's travels. I spent some time at home and then went out to meet someone. We had arranged to do so at one of the river bottom outlets. We visited and after loading her granny cart with supplies, I headed over to Fairmount Park. I met with four pets and their companions for a bit and then went downtown to meet another pet and her companions. This pet is one I met when she was born. I actually knew her mama and recall the entire litter being born and then she was one of two puppies abandoned in the river bottom. A gentleman brought them out to me one day and asked if I could help. I said if he could foster one or both, then I would find a way to get them looked at as they both looked sickly. A woman who happened to be at the park said she would foster one of them. She took the female. The gentleman who brought them to me took the other. That was a male. We were able to get them medical care and in time they were both vaccinated, spayed/neutered, micro chipped and licensed. The fosters were failures which worked out perfectly. Less than a year later, the gentleman was getting housing and could not take the dog. We found rescue for him but the other couple kept the female. Her name was 'Lily'. I had the pleasure of visiting her today. She is now 7 years old and doing great. She had not seen me in a long time but I was still greeted with kisses and tail wags. It was a perfect last stop of the day! Nestle Pure Life waters, toilet tissue, body wipes, baseball caps, pet wipes, pet toys, squeaky tennis balls, large beef bone, fly repellant for pets, Vetericyn wound care spray, 2–20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, large stainless steel pet dish, wet dog food, Inaba juicy bites for cats, Inaba tuna fillets for cats, cat toy, dog toys, chicken jerky and other dog treats kabob chew sticks and bully slices were shared.
It was a busy Friday morning. So much so, that I did not have time to get over to my usual stops on the Eastside. I started the morning at Fairmount Park. I visited with some old furry friends and made a new one. Hoping to provide the new one with 'the works' in the near future. When I left the park, I got on the freeway and headed out to the Jurupa Valley Motel6. I wanted to check on our latest recipient of 'the works'. I could not check on him sooner as he spent a little extra time at Van Buren Animal Hospital having surgery on his dog attack injuries. In addition to that dog, I had an opportunity to visit with two others and our new kitty friend 'Percy'. I also used funds from our 'Summer On The Streets 2021' to pay for a couple of rooms housing a total of four pets. Supplies were distributed for all of the pets that received visits. When I left the motel, I had just enough time to go to the post office, check our PO Box and head home. Nestle Pure Life waters, Arco gift cards, McDonald's gift cards, medium leashes, medium collars, 2 small bags of dog food, 2-20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, stainless steel pet dish, fleece blanket, wet dog food, doggie waste bags, inflatable e-collar, Inaba tuna fillets for cats, cat toy, dog toys, chicken jerky and other dog treats kabob chew sticks and bully slices were shared.
Before I get into my day, I would like to share what we have done so far with the funds from our 'Summer On The Streets 2021' online fundraiser and where we are with our Spay/Neuter totals for the month of July….We have spent approximately $2,000 of what we raised. We rented 22 rooms for 37 pets and their companions. This includes someone we provided a room for last night and one we provided today for a gentleman who just got out of the hospital today. He and his dog will be enjoying the comfort of a room tonight and will be out of the heat…As far as providing 'the works' is concerned; we had a total of 20 this month. We also hit our #1500 yesterday! That 20 included 14 dogs and 6 cats. There were 9 female dogs, 3 female cats, 5 male dogs and 3 male cats. We also helped to find rescue for a puppy, dogs and kittens. I would say it has been a successful month. This morning, I went to them motel to check on the kitten that is going to rescue after we provide 'the works'. I checked on our 1500th pet. I visited a dog by chance that happened to be at the motel and I drove over to offer the gentleman who got out of the hospital a room for him and his dog this evening. When I left the motel, I had to head home for a Zoom meeting and then spent the afternoon in phone calls, emails and text messages. Nestle Pure Life waters, Arco gift cards, McDonald's gift cards, Burger King gift card, ball cap, small leash, small collar, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, stainless steel pet dish, fleece blankets, small bag of dog food, wet dog food, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet kitten food, chicken jerky and other dog treats cows ears and bully slices were shared.
Our main focus today was on a mama dog and her last two litters of puppies. The little mama dog is approximately 5 years old and has had four litters. The newest litter was all females and they are 3 to 4 months old. The litter before had three remaining puppies and they are 12 to 14 months old. All were scheduled for 'the works' and then the puppies were getting relinquished. It has taken many phone calls, emails and text messages to get all of this arranged and I am just grateful that we were able to make it happen. In addition to it being our spay/neuter day, we were also contacted by three people who were given approval by Feeding Pets Of The Homeless to take their pets to Van Buren Animal Hospital this afternoon. One of those pets was attacked by another dog and required a neuter by Taking It To The Streets, one is injured and the other has a large growth that needed checked out. Throughout the day, we have been in contact with the companions in order to decided which pets might need a motel room and when that would be needed. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter".
This morning was spent finalizing arrangements for spay/neuter surgeries on Wednesday as well as the relinquishment of seven of those pets that are puppies. I also drove out to a homeless encampment in Jurupa Valley looking for the dog that was attacked twice by another dog in the area. I gave his companion the number for Feeding Pets Of The Homeless and wanted to let her know that I confirmed her homelessness and committed to pay for his neuter at Van Buren Animal Hospital. It turned out that they had gotten a motel room so I was unable to locate them but we did speak on the phone. I also went to the Jurupa Valley Motel6 to bring supplies to one of the homeless who rescued a kitten from inside a bougainvillea bush. In addition to bringing supplies, I did a video clip hoping to find rescue for the little one. While at the motel I visited with the dogs that belong to the person helping the kitten and made a stop in a room to visit another furry friend. Now I am just hoping things go smoothly for the injured pet as well as those meeting me at the Department of Animal Services tomorrow. My son is visiting tomorrow with my 'furry grand-child' and it would be nice to enjoy the day without too much drama from my charity work. Nestle Pure Life waters, McDonald's gift card, kitty litter, litter box, sleeping bag, pillows, fleece blanket, baseball caps, wet kitten food, small bag of kitten food, Inaba Churus for cats, wet dog food, chicken jerky and other dog treats, bully slices and a large bone were shared.
The rain slowed things down a bit this morning but I was still able to locate, visit with and distribute supplies for eight pets. I stopped on Massachusetts Avenue while on the East Side by the Access Center and Pods. I drove through Hunter Park, around Iowa and Third before finally winding up at Fairmount Park. I had a few orders of business that required phone calls so I made them on my blue tooth while heading toward the Post Office and then finished some of the calls when I arrived home. There is now a plan in place for a gentleman with a mama dog that is getting 'the works' this Wednesday. She has puppies from two separate litters that the companion needed help with. There are 4-3-month-old females, 2–14-month-old females and a 14-month-old male. Taking It To The Streets with Lori and Shira will be having them all spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. The mama will go back to her companion and the puppies will then be owner surrendered. It will undoubtedly be quite an expense but the puppies will either go to rescue or be adopted so the end result will be worth every dollar. Unfortuantely, I received bad news from a gentleman whose mama cat and two babies were supposed to get 'the works' on August 4th. The most recent Jurupa Valley fire claimed their lives. Their companion was walking back to his camp when he saw the smoke but it was too late. The fire had engulfed the area. It was a sad conversation to say the least and I was sorry for the companion's pain…I went back out in a bit but this time it was social. I met my oldest and dearest friend as well as my daughter for lunch. It had been a while so I welcomed the conversation and the company. Nestle Pure Life waters, small stainless steel pet dish, chicken jerky treats, bully slices, cows ears, kabob chew sticks and wet dog food were shared.
I was supposed to be accompanied by Christine Ramirez this morning but something came up and I wound up going solo. I decided to re-arrange the schedule I had planned for her and I, in order to make time to go out to our storage units. I drove over by Arlington and Van Buren where I made two separate stops. I visited with and distributed supplies for one dog at the first stop. I did the same at the second but there were four dogs there. I left the last stop around 10:30am and drove over to Riverside Self Storage. It was already heating up but I was able to load what I needed in about 20 minutes or so and was on my way home soon after. I spent another 30 minutes unloaded and re-stocking when I arrived home but still sat down for lunch at my usual time. I was sorry that I did not have my friend with me today but everything worked out well which is what matters when all is said and done. Nestle Pure Life waters, toilet tissue, body wipes, small bag of puppy food, bacon flavored dental sticks, bully slices, kabob chew sticks, chicken jerky and other dog treats, Tiller Tugs tug toy, small squeaky ball and other pet toys, large stainless steel pet dish and wet dog food were shared.
I was supposed to meet someone with a dog I have not seen in a very long time. That was to take place in the downtown area but the companion had last minute changes so we were unable to visit. I have known this seven-year-old dog since she was born in the river bottom and I always look forward to catching up with her. Because that did not work out, I met someone else at one of the river bottom outlets near and industrial center and then headed over to Reid Park on the East Side. When I arrived there, I found who I was looking for with the dog I was hoping to see. When we were done, I headed back to the first location and visited with two other dogs and their companion. From there it was a trip to our PO Box to pick up a donation and then home. Nestle Pure Life waters, people snacks, toilet tissue, body wipes, large dog bones, Max and Neo dog collar, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 20-pound bag of dog from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus for cats, dog toys, large stainless steel pet dish, chicken jerky and other dog treats, wet dog food, wet cat food, cows ears and bully slices were shared.
I spent the morning at Fairmount Park where I was able to visit with and distribute supplies to seven pets. My friend Janene Purdie met me there as well and we were able to give someone a stroller for their dog. When I left the park, I drove out to Jurupa and went to drop something off at UPS, check our PO Box at the USPS and then get home in time for a late morning Zoom meeting. Nestle Pure Life waters, stroller, canned ravioli, body wipes, large dog bones, cat collar, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, collapsible pet dish, chicken jerky and other dog treats, wet dog food, kabob chew sticks and pet wipes chew sticks were shared.
I received a call yesterday about a dog that was attacked by another dog. I gave them the number for Feeding Pets Of The Homeless and explained how that would work if they were approved. Part of the deal requires that the dog be spayed/neutered or that they allow us to do it at the same time its medical needs are being taken care of. I went to check out the dog and verify that they were actually homeless and living in the homeless encampment they mentioned. When I arrived, I spoke to a few people and visited with another dog there but the injured dog and his companion were not around. Someone said that the companion doesn't want to neuter the dog and probably won't call for help. I told them how selfish it is and if I find out that is the case and that the dog was not treated then I will be reporting this to Animal Services for neglect. Not accepting medical help because you do not want a dog altered is ridiculous and not something I am going to ignore…When I left the first location, I went to the Jurupa Valley Motel6 where I visited one of the dogs that received services yesterday as well as the two kittens. I also visited a dog that was there due to our 'Summer On The Streets 2021' fundraiser. I was about to leave when I saw a gentleman I had not seen in a long time. He was in a room with his wife, their 3 dogs and cat. I made a quick stop at the room to say hello and give treats to the dog before heading to the Post Office and then home. Nestle Pure Life waters, large dog bones, extra-large dog collar, stainless steel pet dish, chicken jerky and other dog treats, wet dog food, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, kabob chew sticks and peanut butter chew sticks were shared.
Three dogs and three cats were scheduled for 'the works' today. Had they all showed up, we would have hit #1500. Unfortunately, two of them did not make it. One of the cats was a 'no show', because she actually got lost. The companion of the dog never bothered to contact me but I spoke to someone who knows him. She told me after he did further reading, he decided against it. In my experience, that usually means they still want to be able to breed the dog. Even so, one female dog, one male dog, one female cat and one male cat made it for their appointments so four more pets will not be adding to pet overpopulation in the homeless community or our community at large. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter".
I made arrangements to meet a couple of people at the clinic for vaccinations. That was not until 10am so before I did that, I drove out to the Jurupa Valley Motel6. I knew 'EZ' and his companion were there and I had a harness to drop off for him. I did not know two other dogs would be there but I was happy to see them and have a visit. When I left the motel, I headed to the clinic. One person was supposed to bring four dogs and another was supposed to bring one. The person with the one dog was a no show and the other only brought three of the four she needed vaccinated. We were able to provide each of them with what they needed. The rest of the day was spent trying to catch up with the people who have pets scheduled for 'the works' tomorrow. Two of them seem to have phones that are not turned on at the moment so I just have to hope they remember to show up. Three appointments were wasted last week and I prefer not to waste any this week. Nestle Pure Life waters, wet kitten food, wet cat food, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, large dog bone, extra large dog harness, Jones Natural dog treats, chicken jerky treats, cows ears, pet toys including a Tiller Tugs tug toy and disposable masks were shared.
My first stop of the day was at the kennels next to the Access Center. We are providing 'the works' for two kittens this Wednesday and I wanted to be sure they were big enough. From there I went to Hunter Park. Not everyone I planned to meet was there but two familiar furry faces were so I visited with them. While there, their companion noticed that I had a nail in my front tire. There were no tire warning lights on the vehicle's dash but I could see the nail and knew it needed to come out. On my way back across town to go to the tire shop that has replaced and repaired many tires for me, I stopped to visit the family that has the two dogs and two small kittens. I had been looking for them to drop off the kitty replacement milk but was having trouble locating them. It seems their phone was lost which is why they were not returning my texts or calls but all was made good today. When we were done, I went straight to the tire shop and waited for a while until they could get my vehicle in. In approximately an hour, I was on my way home to deal with the plumbers. Never a dull moment! Nestle Pure Life, body wipes, wet kitten food, cat toys, litter box, Jones Natural dog treats, chicken jerky treats, can of KMR1, nursing bottle kits, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, wet dog food, kabob chew sticks, cows ears and peanut butter chew sticks were shared.
I thought someone was going to be riding along with me today but I never heard from her so I went solo. I had plans to meet the companion of 'Tito' a puppy we just neutered as well as 'Kawasaki'. I was told there might be other dogs there too. I was unable to visit with the puppy last Thursday, because his companion had the stomach flu. She was feeling better today and I had an opportunity to visit with the little guy. He is recuperating nicely. When I arrived, another puppy was in the parking lot. She is one we provided 'the works' for a few weeks ago. I spent time with her and I also met two new dogs. Not sure if they are already spayed as the person with them was not the owner but I did leave my card. In addition to the possibility of either spaying, vaccinating or both, I was concerned about a large growth on the side of one of the dogs. Both were overweight and I suggested the one get seen at Van Buren Animal Hospital. I left my contact card and explained about 'Feeding Pets of The Homeless'. Time will tell if they will be contacted or if I will but I reached out none the less. When I was done with all of the pets, I ran a personal errand and then headed home. Nestle Pure Life waters, tuna combo packs, chicken salad combo packs, rice krispy treats, candy, slim jims, flavored drink packets, protein bars, wet puppy food, chicken jerky treats, 2 small bags of puppy food, wet dog food, small dog collar, 2 medium sized stainless steel pet bowls, peanut butter dental sticks, plain dental sticks, bacon flavored dental sticks, kabob chew sticks, bully slices and a portable water troth were shared.
It was one of those days where I put quite a few miles on my vehicle and burned through a lot of fuel without visiting many pets. I started my morning in Rubidoux where I was supposed to meet someone to distribute supplies. She was not there so I called. She said they asked her to come in to work. I would have appreciated a heads up but there was not much I could do but continue on. My next stop was at an encampment in Jurupa Valley. The tent sits at the edge of a large field and it is hard to tell if anyone is there until I actually reach the tent. The companion told me she would be there with her dog but neither she or the dog were there so I continued driving out to the Jurupa Valley Motel6. Nobody I knew was there with pets so I drove around the corner where I was pretty sure I would find 'Midnight' and her companion. They were there and so was another dog with her companion. I still had an hour before needing to go back home so I back tracked towards downtown Riverside and made a stop at a river bottom outlet off of Mission Blvd. Only one of the companions was awake and she was not feeling well so I told her I would do my best to make it back there tomorrow. I was not far from Fairmount Park so I took a drive through the different areas looking for a specific person whose RCAS licensing paperwork I wanted to give her. I did not find her but did run into four pets and their companion. I visited with them, drove out to our PO Box to pick up a donation and called it a day. Nestle Pure Life waters, toilet tissue, body wipes, wet dog food, chicken jerky and other treats for dogs, kabob chew sticks, peanut butter flavored dental sticks, bacon flavored dental sticks and bully slices were shared.
I arrived at Fairmount Park at approximately 8:15am and found a few familiar faces there. I visited with the people and pets distributing needed supplies. When I left the Park, I drove over to the Eastside on Massachusetts Avenue. There was only one dog and her companion sitting outside but I did stop for them. From there I drove to Hunter Park where I ran into another furry friend and his companion. I offered them a motel room for Wednesday. I was going to put them in one this past week but had forgotten to ask when I last saw them. My final stop was off of Atlanta Avenue where I met a new kitty that needs 'the works' and visited with an old friend as well. I had planned on making another stop but was unable to find the person and pet I was looking for so I just headed home for a Zoom meeting. Nestle Pure Life waters, Benadryl caplets, body wipes, dry pet shampoo, pet wipes, small stainless steel pet dish, plush squeaky dog toy, 2–20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 17-pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, wet kitten food, cat toys, chicken jerky and other treats for dogs, kabob chew sticks, peanut butter flavored dental sticks, bacon flavored dental sticks, bully sticks and bully slices were shared.
I am thankful to share that in the past twelve days we have rented 19 motel rooms providing 30 dogs, 2 cats and their companions with a one-night stay, thanks to our 'Summer On The Streets 2021' fundraiser. We will continue doing this until those with pets who would like a room are able to and until the funds run out. If there is enough money, we offer a second night as well but not until we are able to give as many first nights as possible...It was a busy morning spent at two different motels. The first was the Motel6in Jurupa Valley where I visited with three of the five pets that received rooms last night thanks to our 'Summer On The Streets 2021' fundraiser. There was a problem with the reservation for the couple with the cats that received 'the works' so they were unable to get a room. The puppy and his companion were in a room but she did not feel well today. Because of that she decided not to bring the puppy out for a visit and so I could check his incision. I am sure he will be just fine and wish her a speedy recovery. I cannot imagine what it is like to be sick and living in the river bottom, especially in the warmer or colder months. I am thankful she and her pup still have one more night to rest as comfortably as possible. When I left the motel, I drove a few more miles to another motel. There were a few pets staying there that I knew but I wanted to see one in particular so he could try on a harness. We provided him with one but it would not adjust enough to fit him properly so I wanted to try another. It seemed like this one was more his size. While I was there, I also paid for two rooms as part of our 'Summer On The Streets 2021' fundraiser. Three more pets and their companions will get relief from the heat tonight. When I left the motel, I drove to our PO Box and then home. Nestle Pure Life waters, Arco gift cards, McDonalds gift cards, fleece blanket, dry pet shampoo, pet wipes, small and large stainless steel pet dishes, small leash, large leash, large harness, XL harness, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, wet puppy food, wet kitten food, small bag of kitten food, cat toys, Tiller Tugs tug toy, chicken jerky and other treats for dogs, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, kabob chew sticks, peanut butter flavored dental sticks, bacon flavored dental sticks, bully sticks and bully slices were shared.
This should have been a busy morning at the spay/neuter clinic as we had two dogs and four cats scheduled for surgery. One of the dogs and two of the cats arrived on time and it looked like things were going as planned but then nobody else showed. I began texting and making phone calls, trying to find out what was going on. One of the cats did not show as she seemed to have gotten lost. Her companion said someone had opened the cage and she could not find her. If she does, we will try again next week as long as there is space. When I called about another of the cats, I was told they thought they appointment was at 9am. Our texts messages clearly say to arrive at 7:30am. It was only 8am so I said I would wait. She was still a no show at 8:40 so I left. When I got home, I received a text from the person with the other dog that was a no show. It was a long story as to why they did not keep the appointment and we discussed the dog going in next week, if we have space. I will try to make appointments for people who were not 'no-shows'. If we are still not at our allotted number, they will be put in. The good news is that one female cat, one male cat and one male dog did receive 'the works' and that is three more pets that will not be adding to pet overpopulation in the homeless community or our community at large. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter".
I was supposed to meet three different companions with a total of seven dogs at the clinic this morning. That was not going to be until 10am so I drove over to Fairmount Park first. I did not find who I was looking for but I did find a few people and pets that I know so I spent some time there. When I was done, I headed over to the clinic. There was only one person waiting for me and as it turned out, his dog was not neutered. We do no provide vaccinations, flea and tick treatment or other similar services unless the pet is already spayed/neutered or we have a commitment to get it done on a specific date. I felt bad wasting this gentleman's time and fuel but he doesn't really want to get the dog neutered so we just had to let it go for now. The person with four dogs did not show up but later texted that her truck broke down and she was unable to get there. The other person has two dogs and she texted a little after 11am to tell me she overslept. So, it seems my time and fuel were wasted as well but we will try again for five of the pets, next Tuesday. Now I just have to hope that all of the people with pets show up for their spay/neuter appointments tomorrow...Nestle Pure Life waters, body wipes, Repel bug repellent, pet wipes, stainless steel pet dishes, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, chicken jerky and other treats for dogs, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
On my way to the Eastside this morning, I made a stop on Market Street near one of the river bottom outlets. Over the week-end, I missed giving supplies to the companion of a couple of dogs so I took care of that today. They received what they needed and I was able to visit with one of the dogs. My next stop was on Massachusetts Avenue where I visited with two dogs and their companions before heading over to Hunter Park. The people and pets I were looking for were not there but others were so I spent some time there. I visited the dogs, distributed supplies and then headed home. I had to give my dogs their morning break and pick up a package that needed shipped and a couple of gift bags filled with homemade cookies. The gift bags were for AC Officer Luna, Sgt. Sanders and Christine Langdon. Christine picked up and delivered this month's donation of pet food from the Star Milling Company. I am so grateful for all three of these people and the cookies are small token of that appreciation. Nestle Pure Life waters, body wipes, Repel bug repellent, pet wipes, small stainless steel pet dishes, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, Max and Neo dog collar, leashes, small bag of dog food, Jones Natural and other dog treats, bacon flavored chew sticks, kabob chew sticks, bully slices and bully sticks were shared.
We are supposed to provide 'the works' for a puppy on the 21st. In the meantime, he is living in the river bottom with his companion and she is concerned about him getting parvo. I offered to bring her a pet stroller to help keep him off the ground and I brought it this morning. This puppy is a boxer mix that was bought from someone which everyone knows frustrates me to no end. After it was bought, the person became homeless and gave it to another family member. This one is homeless too but she got attached quickly and wants to be responsible with him now. I can't change the past but I can help change his future/ When I left that location, I drove around until I found 'Kawasaki' and her companion. We visited for a bit and then I drove out to the Jurupa Valley Motel6. I did not se anyone outside with pets so I drove around the corner and stopped to visit a pet that stays in a small encampment with her companion. I had planned on visiting a few more pets but people were either sleeping or not in their 'spots' so I called it a day around 11am. Nestle Pure Life waters, toilet tissue, tuna snack packs, chicken salad snack packs, cookies, crackers, beef sticks, protein bars, flavored drink packets, toilet tissue, body wipes, pet wipes, dry pet shampoo, puppy pads, collapsible pet dish, pet stroller, stainless steel pet dish, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, Inaba balls, squeaky dog toys, medium dog collar, Jones Natural and other dog treats, small dental chews, bacon flavored chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
My first order of business this morning was to drop off the large pet stroller/wagon in the parking lot of the American Legion Hall at Fairmount Park. It holds up to 150 pounds so the two dogs I brought it for will fit in just fine. When we were done, I drove to the front of the park in the lot across from the tennis courts. There is a family who is no longer homeless but that I like to visit with every now and then. They agreed to meet up with me today and we were able to make that happen. After our visit, I drove over to an area where they had tables set up for the homeless to get clothing and other supplies. I stopped to see if anyone was there with pets. There were not but I did spend some time speaking with a couple of people who do have pets and made arrangements to meet with one of them this week. Her dog needs a harness. I only have two but would like to see if one of them fits. I also want to put them in a room this week so they can get a break from the heat. When I left the park, I drove to a location in Rubidoux but nobody was there so I continued on to Jurupa Valley. I checked out PO Box and then went home to feed our tortoise and let the dogs out for a bit. I had planned to go back out and run some errands but it was already getting hot so I decided to call it a day. Nestle Pure Life waters, cookies, crackers, beef sticks, protein bars, flavored drink packets, body wipes, pet wipes, dry pet shampoo, stainless steel pet dish, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, wet cat food, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, Inaba Churus for cats, cat toys, balls, squeaky dog toys, Jones Natural and other dog treats, small dental chews, bacon flavored chew sticks and bully slices were shared.
I started the day a little earlier than usual. Part of that was due to the heat and the other because I had so much to do. My first stop was Fairmount Park and a parking lot across the way from the park. From there I drove to Massachusetts Avenue on the Eastside. There were no people with pets in front of the Access Center or pallet houses so I continued on to Hunter Park. When I left Hunter Park, I stopped to pick up an order of stainless-steel pet dishes and then went home to give my dogs their morning break. When I left the house, I stopped by the post office and then headed over to Riverside Self Storage to meet Susan Rogers, Dawn Cummings and her husband Doug who were kind enough to drive out to Ontario and pick up a large donation of waters. Nestle Pure Life waters, Arco gift card, body wipes, pet wipes, chicken jerky treats for dogs, wet dog food, portable water troth for pets, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, Jones Natural and other dog treats, bacon flavored chew sticks and kabob chew sticks were shared.
I went to the Jurupa Valley Motel 6 this morning, to check on the two dogs that received 'the works' yesterday and to visit with four dogs that spent the night thanks to 'Summer On The Streets 2021'. The dogs that received spay/neuter surgery were recuperating nicely. The other dogs seemed to be enjoying the beds and the air conditioning. When I left the motel, I went to the Post Office to pick up donations and then I ran a couple of personal errands. I was supposed to meet a woman with 4 dogs at the Vaccination Clinic but I did not have time and just phoned in a payment for them. I want to start put by sharing some good news about the dog that wandered into one of the rooms we reserved for a homeless couple on Sunday. Her paws were bleeding, she was in heat and seemed dehydrated. AC Officer Luna and Sgt. Sanders helped me get someone to pick her up. I was unable to check for a chip as I was concerned, she might have parvo, by the way she was acting. However, she did have a chip and was returned to her owner(s). I was told she was frightened by the fireworks and took off. I really wish people would be more conscientious during the fireworks as it is so common for pets to run if they are not kept somewhere safe... Because July 4th is such a busy time for Animal Services, they asked me to limit the pets at 2 for spay/neuter this week. I would have loved to do the six we are usually allotted but we brought what was asked of us. We had one male dog and one female dog. We booked a motel room for them for two nights and booked two other rooms for one night. Those two rooms are for people with pets that missed getting a room on the fourth. We will be using our 'Summer On The Streets 2021' fundraiser funds to cover the cost of those rooms. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter".
If you have been following our page, you know that a puppy named 'Mandy' was scheduled to go to Katella Animal Clinic this morning for Labradors and Friends Rescue. The couple who found her and have been taking such great care of her have a vehicle so instead of paying a transporter I promised the couple Arco fuel cards and McDonald's gift cards. They originally said they wanted to get on the road at 8:30am so I arrived before then to drop off the gift cards and visit 'Mandy' one last time. When I arrived, this puppy that was so shy a few days ago greeted me with tail wags and jumped all over me too. It was so nice to see her so happy and to know that her life was only going to get better. When I left the motel, I drove to a nearby parking lot and visited with three dogs and their companions. I distributed supplies and then headed home. I had to grab a package that needed shipped. My plan was to run an errand, look for 'Kawasaki' and then go to the post office. I was able to accomplish all of those things. By the time I was finished, it was time to call it a day. Nestle Pure Life waters, body wipes, McDonald's gift cards, Arco gift cards, medium pet cot, plush squeaky toys, tug toys for dogs, chicken jerky treats for dogs, dry pet shampoo, wet dog food, 2–20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Jones Natural and other dog treats, kabob chew sticks, peanut butter dental sticks, bacon flavored chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
I will start by saying how nice it was to have Christine Ramirez riding with me today. She had been riding with me on one of her days off, nearly every week for the past few years. That all stopped in February of 2020 when Covid hit the scene. Today, we were able to catch her up on many of the pets she has not seen in person in a very long time. She met at my house and then we drove to the Jurupa Valley Motel6 where we visited with 14 of the pets that we put in rooms last night. We also had to deal with a dog that wandered into one of the rooms we rented. We have no idea where she came from but hours later, I was able to get AC Officer Will Luna and Sgt. Jason Sanders to help us get her out of there….We did not get to all of them but we saw more than half. Everyone was thankful for their rooms and we were thankful to spend time with our furry friends. Nestle Pure Life waters, chicken jerky treats for dogs, Jones Natural and other dog treats, kabob chew sticks, peanut butter dental sticks, bully slices and bully sticks were shared.
I started my morning at an encampment in Rubidoux. From there I went to a river bottom outlet near the Mission Avenue bridge and then took a drive through Fairmount Park. I visited pets at the first two places but did not see any at the park. It was filling up with people having their 4th of July picnics and BBQ's but did not seem to have any homeless present. When I left the park, I was going to drop a can of KMR1 off to the family with the tiny kitten but they had gone out to get a motel room in Corona and I did not have time to drive all the way there. I decided to go to the Motel6 instead and drop off kitten and cat food to someone in need. While I was there, I ran into 'Chance' and his companions in the parking lot so I visited with them before heading home. Nestle Pure Life waters, toile tissue, body wipes, k9 Glucosamine with Chondroitin, 2 large dog harnesses, medium dog leash, balls, plush squeaky dog toys, 20-pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, wet cat food, wet kitten food, Inaba Churus for cats, chicken jerky treats for dogs, Jones Natural and other dog treats, kabob chew sticks, peanut butter dental sticks and bully stick were shared.
At 7am I was at Riverside Self Storage where I dropped off a couple of things and filled my vehicle with supplies. I went home, unloaded everything and then went back out... In addition to my daily travels today and tomorrow, I will be going to the Motel6 in Jurupa Valley on Monday and not to the Eastside. We have 12 rooms reserved which means lots of pets to visit. I am trying to have as many supplies on hand as possible but I am sure we will run out of a few things that day. I am very excited about Monday, because for the first time in nearly a year and a half I will have Christine Ramirez riding with me. She used to ride with me once a week for a few years, until Covid put a stop to it. I know she has missed so many of our furry friends and I have missed the company... Last night, I received a call from someone at the Jurupa Valley Motel6. She was hoping I could come and pick up a dog that needed help. We had a long talk and I spoke to another homeless woman who was in the area and asked her to check things out. The biggest issue was fleas and ticks. They got to work on that and I committed to going there today, in order to take photos and a video clip. I made it clear that I could make no promises but that I would do what I could to look for rescue…That turned out to be the last stop I made today. The first was out in Jurupa Valley at a river bottom outlet where I visited with one dog that needed a harness and a few other supplies. The next was in Rubidoux. That second stop was to bring kitten supplies to a family who found kittens. One had a sibling that passed away and they are trying to save the other. The second is a little bit older and required different supplies. When I arrived, I was happy to see that the tiny kitten was doing well. His eyes were now open and he was talking up a storm. I left all the supplies I had that would be good for one or the other and spent some time with their dogs too. I probably spent the most time at the motel as I really want to help this couple with the puppy. They are presently homeless and someone is caring for their dog. They are only in the Motel until Monday but if I get a commitment for rescue, we will pay through Thursday so they have a safe environment to keep her in. My final stop was at our PO Box where I was very thankful to find a donation of KMR Stage1. I will try to get that to the family with the tiny kitten as soon as possible. Nestle Pure Life waters, dog collar, dog leashes, balls, plush squeaky dog toys, fly repellant for pets, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, doggie waste bags, small bag of puppy food, small bag of kitten food, KMR Stage2, wet kitten food, pet bottles, kitty litter, Jones Natural and other dog treats, chicken jerky dog treats, peanut butter chew sticks, kabob chew sticks, bully slices, and Inaba Churus for cats were shared.
My reoccurring appointment every Friday means I need to be home by 10:30am. That limits my time on the streets but I just try to make the best of it. I started out at Fairmount Park, went to Massachusetts Avenue on the Eastside and ended at Hunter Park. There were only two dogs at Fairmount, one in front of the pallet houses and five at Hunter Park. I was able to visit with those eight and distribute needed supplies. When I left Hunter Park, I ran over to Progressive Graphics to pick up a small order of t-shirts and hats. Going to start wearing red on Fridays to honor our Veterans and I also got a couple extra for a Veteran friend who has been a supporter of our charity for a long time. Before going home, I made a quick stop at the post office. Someone emailed that they sent a few McDonalds gift cards and I wanted to see if they had arrived. They did and I will give a few out to some of the people getting rooms on the fourth of July. I believe we are up to 12 rooms so far. Nestle Pure Life waters, wet dog food, doggie waste bags, small bag of dog food, Jones Natural and other dog treats, chicken jerky dog treats, peanut butter chew sticks, Inaba tuna fillets for pets and Inaba Churus for cats were shared.
I spent my morning at the Jurupa Valley Motel6. I visited with a few pets including four of the that received 'the works' yesterday. I met with the companion of a large family of Chihuahua's and gave her supplies. I also met someone with two dogs that need 'the works'. She got my name from someone else we provide services for but she said she did not have my number. She has it now. Her dogs were adorable and will get what they need somewhere during the next few weeks. We just have to figure out a good date for her appointment. When I left the motel, I picked up a few donations at our PO Box and headed home. Nestle Pure Life waters, Arco gift card, Burger King gift card, beef sticks, cookies, protein bars, wet dog food, 17- pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 2–20-pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, stainless steel pet dish, Max and Neo Dog Gear and other dog collars, Jones Natural and other dog treats, chicken jerky dog treats, bully sticks, bully slices, Inaba tuna fillets for pets, Inaba Churus for cats, wet kitten food and cat toys were shared.
