We provided 'the works' for 11 pets in September. Considering the number of no-shows and our finances, I was grateful we were even able to do that many. We had a total of 8 dogs and 3 cats. There were three male dogs, five female dogs, two male cats and one female cat. I hope our donations/grants increase in October and that everyone who has an appointment for spaying and neutering is able to make it. Time will tell... Last night, I only got a couple of hours of sleep. I wasn't sure how productive I was going to be today but I went out and made the effort. I have visited with and/or provided supplies for and/or spayed & neutered at least one pet every day this month and I did not want to take the day off for no good reason. I am glad I didn't, because it turned out to be a busy one. I visited with nine pets on Massachusetts Avenue by the Path of Life Community Shelter and another at Bobby Bonds Park. Most received supplies. Four of them need 'the works'. And I am hoping the schedule appointments and then show up for them. I can't afford to do more than three each week so the wait times are longer but I will do my best to keep things going. When I left the first location, I drove to Progressive Graphics and ordered more 'work shirts' as mine are getting old and need replaced. I then went to mail a package at a nearby post office, before going to visit and provide supplies for one last pet. My final stop was at the Jurupa Valley Postal Center so I could pick up a donation of XL neon dog collars that the donor told me had arrived. By the time I left there it was after 11am and I was grateful to be going back home! I still had plenty of work to do there but there was no rush to get it done by a certain time which was a relief... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, small bag of senior dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 14 pound bag of Pedigree, medium neon dog collar, Inaba Fun Bites, Inaba Churu Bites, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons and a Kong squeaky ball were shared.
I made arrangements to meet a family out in Jurupa Valley today. Before I could do that, I needed to go back to a location I visited yesterday. It was a river bottom outlet where I went to meet with a group of people and about a dozen of their dogs. However, when I arrived, there was a dog sitting alone with a carton that was cut in half and filled with water. No collar and no microchip and definitely dumped. I was told she had been sitting in that same spot for a couple of days or more. When I left yesterday there was a gentleman who was going to leash her and get her to safety, while I looked for rescue. He never did. I was told another gentleman showed up and was going to take her home. He never did. All of that became clear when I showed up this morning and she was still in the same spit, only her water container was gone. I fed her and started reaching out for help. I knew I could not take her with me so I was looking for someone who could pick her up, take her home and then possibly drive her to the Katella Animal Hospital tomorrow. In the meantime, I got on the freeway and drove out to the other Jurupa Valley location. I went home when we were done and continued asking around for help. A little before 2pm, I received a text from Tracy Bowen. She has helped transport in the past and is a foster. She is wonderful with pets and seemed like the perfect person to get the dog out of where she was. I never asked for her assistance. She just offered. That is the kind of person she is and I am so fortunate to know her. She was able to get 'Holly' and will take her to Katella Animal Hospital tomorrow, where she will get checked out for Labradors and Friends Rescue. When they feel she is ready, she will be put up for adoption. What a wonderful way to end the day! Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, small bag of adult dog food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Wellness wet cat food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Juicy Bites, Cat feeding dishes and buffalo tendons were shared.
Ever since the people were made to move from the encampment in Grand Terrace, I have only seen a couple of the dogs that used to stay there. This morning, I received a call from one of those people asking if I would meet them down by the FedEx center off of Holly Lane. She asked if we could meet on the Riverside side and explained how to get down there. When I first pulled up, I noticed a dog sitting by herself and a container that had been cut in half and used as a water dish. It was clear that someone had dumped her there. I watched as she sat at the same spot staring up the long driveway. She only walked around when she got scared by the loud noisy trucks, people or other dogs. I was able to pet her and give her treats but she was very skittish and seemed to know when we were trying to get a leash around her neck. She hung around the entire time I was there. I visited with ten dogs and two more showed up as I was ready to leave. Five of the dogs need spayed/neutered so I am hoping to make that happen. As I was leaving, one of the guys said he would stay with the dumped dog, until he could get a leash on her and take her back to his camp. I am still trying to figure out what I can do to help her….When I left that location, I drove to the nearest freeway onramp and headed to our storage units. I picked up waters and pet food and then went home to unload most of it as well as reload supplies for tomorrow's travels... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba chicken fillet, large leash, medium collar, large collar, 14 pound bag of Pedigree dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 2-large leashes, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
I spent my morning on the Eastside with people and pets that are staying in the Path of Life Community Shelter and the Helping Hearts shelter. I visited with eight pets and provided needed supplies. Four of them were new to me. Two of the dog’s need flea & tick treated, their vaccinations updated and one of those also needs a microchip so they can stay in the kennels there. That is a service we provide. Three of the dog’s I met need spayed and neutered. We will be working on making that happen as well. When I left that location, I went to our PO Box. One of our donors notified me that she had sent more collars and leashes and that they were delivered. I picked those up and then made it to an 11am appointment. The rest of the day was spent doing all of the usual things I have to get done once my daily travels are complete... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, Wellness wet cat food, 17pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, small bag of senior dog food, small bag of small bites dog food, neon collar, 2 neon leashes, small leash, small collar and leash set, cat dancer toy, cat dish from Daisy’s Hope, Inaba Churus, Inaba Chur Bites, Inaba chicken fillet, Max and Neo fleece, XL Kong squeaky ball, plush squeaky dog toy, 2 collapsible pet bowls, doggie waste bags and doggie waste bags with leash clip, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
Before I went to the Jurupa Valley Motel6 to check on the dogs that received 'the works' yesterday, I stopped at another motel in Jurupa Valley to pick up a wire kennel I had let someone borrow. While I was there I visited with her dog and met a new one. The dog I met belonged to a companion I had provided services for in the past. I was told that dog was killed and he would be happy to have his present dog receive 'the works'. He has no transportation but the woman I went there to meet does and I believe we worked out a plan. When I left that location, I went to the Motel6 and visited both rooms of the dog's that were spayed yesterday. I even got to visit a dog we spayed a couple of years ago, because she lives with little 'Daisy'. Both of the dog's seemed to be recuperating nicely from their spay surgeries. After our visit, I ran an errand and then went for my bi-weekly nail appointment. The rest of the afternoon was spent answering calls, emails, text messages and scheduling spay and neuter appointments. I am also working on a fundraising ideas with volunteers but that is going slowly. Hoping to finalize some if it soon. In the mean time, I am looking forward to the one we will do at Chipotle next month... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, kabob chew sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
Due to a decrease in donations and a late morning appointment, I only scheduled three pets for spaying and neutering today. All were for female dogs and all of the companions confirmed. Unfortunately, one of those people did not show up and her phone was shut off so I was unable to reach her. That being said, two of the people did make it this morning. I have three pets scheduled for the first three weeks in October. All of those are done at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. I used to have six available appointments at the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic but had to decrease the number to two, due to their raising their prices and our financial status. Right now, I am not sure if I will be able to do any more than three appointments per week, unless we finally get some grant money or more donations. I will just continue to do what I can with what I have, because even two or three a week makes a difference to those pets and their people. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled waters, ARCO fuel cards, small bag of small bites dog food, 14 pound bag of Pedigree, wet dog food, Inaba Twins dog, wet puppy food and a small leash were shared.
I made one stop to visit with pets today and that was at Fairmount Park. I made arrangements to bring someone a new tent and sleeping bag. I was also going to meet up with the companion of another dog as well as a dog she has been caring for. While I was there, a gentleman came up from the river bottom with a puppy that appeared to be approximately six months old. We discussed her getting 'the works' and I gave him my contact card to make the appointment. When I left that location, I got on the freeway and drove out to Costco. Not my favorite place but it wasn't too busy and I was in and out fairly quickly. During the drive, I received three calls from people wanting to spay/neuter their pets and asked them to call back between 1pm and 4pm so I could check the calendar for availability and take down their information. My final stop was at our PO Box. I received a text from a donor who purchased collars and leashes for us. She said they had been delivered. I went to pick them up and there was another package from someone else as well. I am always grateful to find gifts waiting for those we serve... Bottled waters, 4 person tent, sleeping bag, 14 pound bag of Pedigree dog food, wet puppy food, buffalo tendons, bully sticks and chicken jerky treats were shared.
I had two appointments at Kaiser this morning so I was not sure if I was going to have time for my daily travels. I definitely did not have time before but decided to go out afterwards if it worked out. When I left Kaiser, I drove around the area for a bit hoping I might find some of the people I spotted with dogs, over the week end, but I did not have any luck. On my way to the post office to mail some paperwork for our Non-Profit, I saw 'Chevy' and his companion. I drove over to where they were for a visit and then went to the post office. When I left there, I drove around a few areas of Jurupa Valley but could not find any of the people with pets that I was looking for. My dog had been in the house for quite some time so I chose not to go looking anywhere else and just take care of him. I will go back out tomorrow... Bottled waters, buffalo tendons and chicken jerky treats were shared.
At 7:30am I headed out to the Rescue Food Bank in Loma Linda, I had reserved a pallet of 14 pound bags of dog food and needed to pick up as much as I could fit in my vehicle. I was able to load 30 bags. I am sure I could have used more but I had no way to get it to my storage and knew that a friend could put it to great use too, I asked that the other ½ pallet+ be given to my friend Brandy with Your Love Unleashed Dog Rescue and Boarding. She is always ready and willing to help others so it is nice to do a little something for her for a change. While at that location, Daisy's Hope had donated boxes of cat dishes. Each small box had four of them inside and I took ten of them. I am sure I could have used more but I think the TNR people and cat rescues need them much more than we do. Thank You Daisy's Hope and thank you Greater Good Charities, Mars Pet Care and TNR Riverside for making these items available to us! When I left the rescue bank, I drove out to our storage units to unload most of the bags and then I went home. I was there long enough to re-stock my vehicle and then I went out for a second time with my destinations being on the westside of Riverside. I went to visit two different motels there and bring supplies for six dogs and three cats. I saw multiple homeless walking around with pets but was unable to stop anywhere safely to give them a contact card. I was able to give a card to a woman in the parking lot of one of the motels. She had a cat wearing a harness and leash and was thankful for the offer. I hope she calls. When I left the second motel, I called it a day after I drove to the store to pick up some produce for my tortoise. Often times, I see homeless people with pets near the stores I shop at but did not see anyone today. Tomorrow, I have two appointments at Kaiser so I will not be going to the Eastside. Whether or not I make any stops will depend on how long the appointments run... Bottled waters, large kitty pet bowls from Daisy's Hope, small bag of puppy food, wet puppy food, 14 pound bag of Pedigree dog food, wet cat food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Wellness wet cat food, wet dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, individual bags of dog treats including a large bag of chicken jerky, Inaba Churus, xs squeaky Kong balls, XL squeaky Kong ball, kabob chew stick, bully sticks, buffalo tendons and chicken jerky treats were shared.
I wasn't sure what I was going to be doing today. I had not made specific plans with anyone for their pets, I only got about three hours of sleep last night and I had friends coming over for dinner. I decided to 'go with the flow' (so to speak) and I went to a location in Rubidoux to try and speak to someone with dogs that needed 'the works'. When I arrived, the gentleman was not there, one dog was tethered to an RV, one dog (I had not seen before) was tethered to a fence and another was in the fenced in field right next to the lot. I called out but nobody answered so I left. I called someone who stays in the river bottom near Fairmount and told him I could meet with supplies. On my way to see them, I stopped in another area of the park to visit with a dog that was with his companion. When I was done with all three pets, I drove back through Rubidoux but there still wasn't anyone there with the dogs. I almost called Animal Control and then realized it was Saturday. They usually just take emergency calls then. I can't go back until Tuesday but if the dogs are there alone again, I will report it... I was just going to go home but I went to our PO Box. Nothing was there but I did notice a gentleman walking his dog on the other side of the parking lot. I had seen them before but never stopped. That changed today. They were in need of supplies so I am thankful I pulled over and asked if it was ok to visit. I found out where they stay and asked the companion to let a couple of other people know that I was looking for them….When I left them, I was on my way home and was thinking about a guy I met a couple of months ago near the 99 cent store on Limonite. At the time, he had a very pregnant, not very nice, dog in a shopping cart. He explained that she had been hit by a car weeks before and he nursed her back to health. At that time, I had to stay a couple of feet away from the cart to keep her from growling. I had not seen them again until this morning. I couldn't believe that I was just thinking about them and there they were. The first words out of the gentleman's mouth were "I need to get the mama dog spayed", before she goes into heat again. I told him the babies should nurse for another two or three weeks and we could do it then but that I don't have an opening until October 23rd anyway, unless someone cancels. He has no phone so I am not sure how easy this will be to get done but I will do my best. The mama dog had three babies. He said he had to help her deliver one of them and that she had smothered the runt. The other two were active and appear healthy for now. He said there have been many people wanting to buy the puppies but since he is spaying her he may want to keep them. That is a discussion I will have another day. Right now my focus will be on getting her done as soon the time is right. What Seemed like it might be an uneventful morning turned out to be just the opposite and I am always ok with a full schedule. I much prefer that to the days when I drive around for hours and only visit one or two pet. The best part is ending the day with friends. I don't have people over very often but I love cooking and I love the company so I am feeling pretty grateful right now... Bottled waters, large collar and leash set, harness, plush squeaky toy, Tiller Tugs squeaky tug toy, collapsible pet dish, wet dog food, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, pig's ears, bully sticks, bully slices, buffalo tendons and chicken jerky treats were shared.
Before I get into my daily travels, I want to share that the dog 'Loba' (that belonged to the homeless gentleman who wound up in the hospital) has been adopted. I was given the news by Riverside County Department of Animal Services today. I wish we could have found family members to possibly get her or that he would have had a full recovery but neither was the case. After one month of being impounded, the dog is now out of the shelter and in a home. I know she will miss her companion but wish her a happy future... I spent most of the morning on the Eastside, I parked in the parking lot of the Path of Life Community Shelter where I visited with, and provided supplies, for pets staying in the kennels there and others staying on the street. When I was leaving, I received a text from Shirley at VanBuren Animal Hospital regarding a cat named 'MeMeow'. I visited him the other day, after verifying his family's homelessness for Feeding Pets Of The Homeless. He had a large mass on the side of his face which was going to get checked out. I told Pets Of The Homeless that if the cat needed to be put under we would cover the cost for him to get neutered. He did need to be so the cat will get medical attention thanks to them and neutered thanks to our supporters. When I left the Eastside, I drove across town to our storage units where I picked up pet food, waters and a few Inaba supplies. From there I headed home, making one quick stop at our (empty) PO Box... Bottled waters, small bag of puppy food, wet puppy food, wet dog food, Churu Bites, Churu Fun Bites, kabob chew sticks, buffalo tendons and chicken jerky treats were shared.
Someone from the river bottom, on the San Bernardino side, agreed to meet me at a location in Grand Terrace this morning. Before I went to do that, I stopped at the Jurupa Valley Motel6 to check on the dog that received 'the works' yesterday. Other than her throwing up last night, she seemed to be recuperating nicely. When I left that location, I drove out to Grand Terrace. While we were fitting the dogs with collars and leashes, another dog came up from the river bottom and three of the dogs took off after him. It was a dog I know and haven't seen in quite some time. I felt bad, because I knew he spotted my vehicle and just wanted to see me but there was no way to make it work. In addition, another gentleman came up from the river bottom with his two dogs. One of them was spayed by us when she was younger and the other needed to be. I had them wait down the street until I was done with the four dogs. Once that was handled, I met with the other two. Turns out, they are getting out of the bottom and put in a motel this week. I am hoping it is one of the three motels I already go to on the west side but I will have to wait until I hear from him. At this point, I did not really have time to go anywhere else other than our PO Box. I wasn't expecting anything but I am always hoping to be surprised. As long as I have a few minutes to stop there, I do... Bottled waters, flavor packets, Benadryl caplets, KMR1, Puppy Milk, Goat's Milk, ear cleaner, ear wipes, collapsible pet dish, Tiller Tugs collar, 2-double Tiller Tug leashes, 6-squeaky Tiller Tug tug toys, large bag of chicken jerky jerky treats, wet dog food, wet kitten food, small bag of kitten food, Inaba Churus, Bully Sticks, Bully Slices, plush squeaky dog toy, XL Kong squeaky balls, 4 regular sized Kong squeaky balls, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, Wellness wet cat food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company medium collar and leash set, medium leash, medium collar and chicken jerky treats were shared.
Because I was going to visit my granddaughter today, I only scheduled spay/neuter appointments at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. I had everything set up for three female dogs but at 5pm last night I received a text that one of the female dog's could not make it and I was asked if she could bring a male dog in her place. I sent in an email with the updated information. We now had one person bringing his female dog and another bringing in one of her females and a male. This morning, I sent in the motel reservations for both people and then went to meet them at the clinic. The gentleman with one dog showed up on time. The Healthy Pet Zone Fund at Riverside County Department of Animal Services was paying for her services there. I gave the gentleman some supplies and we discussed the motel reservation. The other person still wasn't there at 7:40am so I texted and called. She was lost and I couldn't figure out where she was. I told her to stop and ask someone for directions. I called her back right before 8am and she said she was somewhere out by March Air Force Base. She promised last night to be early and maybe even sleep in her car so she did not miss the appointment but neither thing happened and there was no way she could make it in time from where she was so I told her to forget it. I know we were both upset about that. She stays at an encampment where there are a number of dogs and multiple litters have come from there. I really wanted to help and even offered to do four dogs from there but it did not work out. She has two other dogs scheduled for the first week in October but I am going to look over the waiting list and see if anyone needs done sooner. Right now, we are booked through the 23rd of October and if I can get anyone in sooner, I will try to make that happen. For now, I will be grateful for the one dog that did make it and that I was able to spend time with my son and his precious daughter. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled waters, ARCO card, collapsible pet dish, Tiller Tugs collar, wet dog food and a 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company were shared.
Before I left for my daily travels, I received a text from someone needing me to verify their homelessness with Feeding Pets Of The Homeless. It was in regards to a cat with a huge mass on the side of his face. I made the verification call and then I drove out to see the cat in person. He was black and fluffy so it was a bit difficult to get a good photo or video of it but I am grateful he will be seen by a vet. I told Pets Of The Homeless that if the vet does anything that requires the cat being put under, we will pay for him to be neutered at the same time. The microchip and vaccinations are too costly there but I am willing to spend a little extra on the neuter if it means he won't need to be put under a second time. He can get vaccinated and chipped, once he has healed. While I was at that location, I visited with four dogs and another cat, before heading over to our PO Box. I planned one more stop and that was near Van Buren and Jurupa where I recently met a small kitten while visiting other pets. I brought a carrier so there would be somewhere safe for the kitten to sleep and for when it is being carried around. The woman with the kitten was not there, but her friend was. I visited with his dog and left the carrier there for her. I went home soon after... Bottled waters, trolley tie out cable, soft pet carrier, kitty litter, Inaba Churus, chicken jerky treats, bully slices and buffalo tendons were shared.
I spent my morning on the Eastside. I met with some people staying in Helping Hearts, some staying in the Path of Life Community Shelter and others on the street. I was able to visit with the pets, provide supplies and talk to two people about scheduling appointments for spaying their dogs. When I left that location, I drove to where the wife of our 'web master' works and left a bag of treats for their family and the felines in their family. From there it was back to Jurupa Valley where I checked our PO Box. Nothing was there and I went home to start my daily routine of editing photos and videos, posting to our social media, answering emails, answering texts, answering calls, returning calls and scheduling spay and neuter appointments, Due to our limited funds, we only have three pets scheduled for the next few weeks which makes the calendar full until the middle of October. I don't like scheduling so far ahead, because the appointments often don't work out when it is time but I do my best to work with what I have... Bottled waters, large collar and leash set, small collar, medium leash, small Max and Neo collar, small bag of puppy food, wet puppy food, chicken jerky treats, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba chicken fillets, Tiller Tug squeaky tug toy, plush squeaky toy, Kong squeaky balls, kabob chew stick, bully slices, bully stick and buffalo tendons were shared.
There was some drizzle this morning but it did not turn into rain so I was grateful for that and the cooler weather. On my way to a couple of the motels on the west side, I stopped behind the Speedway Station on Jurupa and Van Buren. I was only expecting to visit with one dog but then three other people showed up with pets. One of those was a small kitten that a woman found in a bush when it was really tiny. The other two were dogs that we provided 'the works' for over the years. I stayed at that location much longer than I had planned so I was only able to get to one of the motels. It was a priority being one where a gentleman needed food for both of his dogs. There are actually three motels I visit on that side of town and I will talk to a few people about going out there next weekend. When I left the motel, I went home briefly and then back out to meet a friend/volunteer for lunch, before spending the rest of the afternoon catching up on social media, emails, calls, texts and a few things around the house... Bottled waters, kitty litter, KMR2,2 collapsible pet bowls, medium stainless steel pet dish, large leash, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, small bag of small bites dog food, wet kitten food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Rolls, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, XL Kong squeaky ball, regular Kong squeaky ball, kabob chew stick, bully sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
I took advantage of the cool temperatures and did some baking before I set out for my daily travels. My day was planned for visits on two different sides of the city. Because of no shows and people not being reachable to confirm by phone, that is not how things went. However, I still managed to visit with and provide supplies for three pets. The first stop was in an industrial area in Jurupa Valley. I was expecting to see a few pets there but it wound up being just one. He had a 'fur sister' too but she was recently struck by a hit and run driver and never pulled through. The little dog and his companion are both struggling with her loss. From there, I drove over to Fairmount Park. I drove all through the park and then parked near the tennis courts. There were homeless and others gathered around where were people giving away clothing and other items. I noticed a familiar pet walking around which is why I parked and went over to say hello. Her companion walked her over to my vehicle and I gave them supplies. I really didn't have anywhere else I wanted to go check out so I just went to our PO Box and then stopped at the store. When I was in the store, a gentleman I know was buying trash bags. I was actually going to pay for them but he got to the register before I did. I met up with him outside where his dog had been waiting for him. (It is illegal to leave a dog tied outside the store unattended and I was not happy about that but he usually takes good care of him so I did not say anything.) The two of them walked with me to my vehicle and I gave them a few supplies before heading home... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, small bag of small bites dog food, small bag of adult dog food, Inaba fun bites, Inaba tuna fillet, 2-XL Kong squeaky ball, kabob chew stick, pig's ear, beef collagen sticks with chicken wrap, bully stick and plush squeaky toys were shared.
My first stop of the day was next to the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside. I visited with three dogs there. One of them was neutered this past Wednesday and another had his vaccinations updated for the kennels. My next stop was Hunter Park to visit a dog that stays in a van with her companion. I received a text earlier in the morning letting me know they would be at the park and wondering if I might be heading that way. I was not but I always enjoy visiting with that dog so I went to meet them. My last stop was at Fairmount Park where I visited a dog and provided a few supplies. I was supposed to meet someone at the Veteran's Memorial Park too but the woman's phone went straight to voicemail so I could not let her know I was on my way. I had to pass the park on my way to our PO Box so I did look to see if she might be waiting for me but she wasn't. She has a friend who is in rehab and is watching his dogs. They needed collars and leashes and she wanted to make appointments to get them spayed but we will have to do that another time... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Rolls, XL Kong squeaky ball, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks, bully slices and buffalo tendons were shared.
It was so nice to wake up to another cool morning. I got a little baking done and worked on a grant report, before heading out for my daily travel where I spent my time at the Jurupa Valley Motel 6. I was there checking on the pets that received 'the works' yesterday. I also visited with a dog that his vaccination updated and was flea and tick treated too. He was in one of the rooms with a dog that was neutered. When I visited the dog that was spayed, I had an opportunity to visit with a dog we spayed over a year ago. She was there keeping the other dog company. All seemed to be recuperating nicely! From there I stopped by our PO Box. Nothing was there but I always like to check. I went home for a short time and then went back out for the bi-weekly nail appointment I treat myself to. The afternoon was spent returning emails, texts, phone calls, taking new calls, editing photos and updating our social media accounts... Bottled waters, inflatable e-collar, medium collar and leash set, chicken jerky treats, small bag of small bites dog food, wet puppy food, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba Churus, Inaba chicken fillet, pig's ears, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and buffalo tendons were shared.
We had five pets scheduled for 'the work' today and one scheduled to have his vaccinations updated in order to stay in the kennels at the Path of Life Community Shelter. The first three pets were scheduled at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. We had two male dogs and one female. The Healthy Pet Zone Fund covered the cost of one of those pets. While we were getting everyone checked in, I spoke to a gentleman who drove one of the pet's and his companion. He had a dog with him that needs 'the works. I told him to call me this afternoon to set up an appointment for that. When I left the clinic, I went home for a few minutes to tend to my own dog and then left for the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. We had a male and female kitten scheduled for 'the works' and a male dog scheduled for vaccination updates. Everyone showed up with their pets. The kittens had extra medical issues that needed to be taken care of. Even though we do not normally provide medical care, we do sometimes if it is in relation to the pet being spayed/neutered. Hoping to raise some funds to help with the additional costs. I stayed at the clinic for awhile then had to leave in order to meet Cindy and Seth Cox with our monthly donation from the Star Milling Company. A huge thanks to them for doing the pickup, delivery and helping to unload! Bottled waters, ARCO fuel cards, 2 cases of sleeping bags, KISMET dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, high calorie nutritional gel, chicken jerky treats, wet dog food, large leash and a plush squeaky toy were shared.
At 9am, I was at the tire shop getting my new tire put on. I sincerely hope I don't need to go back there for a long time but my track record is not great! When I left the tire shop, I drove to Rubidoux. I am still trying to contact a gentleman who was trying to get his dog out of impound, I was told he made arrangements but I have yet to be able to find him or the dog where they stay. From there I drove to the Salvation Army and Fairmount Park but was unable to locate any of the people I was looking for. I was contacted by someone who just lost everything in a fire on the property where they were staying. Two of her dogs need to be spayed and neutered. Her other two dogs are already spayed and neutered so I agreed to meet her this morning with dog food and other supplies. I can't get her two unaltered dogs in to get 'the works' until the 25th of this month and I did not want her to wait that long for some help. I couldn't do much but I was able to provide a few things. When our visit was over, I went to the post office to pick up a couple of donation packages from Chewy and then I went home. I spent a lot of the afternoon trying to figure out how to help poor 'Loba'. She has now been impounded for three weeks and none of the people who showed interest in her on our page went to adopt her. I will keep looking... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, large bag of jerky treats, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Tiller Tugs collar, Tiller Tugs leash, 2 plush squeaky toys, 2 Max and Neo fleece blankets, tie out trolley cable, 2 medium stainless steel pet bowls, and pig's ears were shared.
I was not thrilled about driving with the spare tire on nor was I wanting to be out in the heat with the smell of smoke in the air. However, I am the type of person who doesn't do well staying home, unless I am expecting family, so off I went this morning. My first stop was at the motel where the woman with the senior dog was caring for the kitty that just gave birth in her closet there. She had the mama and four babies in a box so I was able to have a look at them. The best part was knowing that they are all going to go to my friend Lupe Alcala, for fostering, and to a rescue after that. Taking It To The Streets with Lori and Shira committed to covering the cost of spaying the mama and we will get that done once the babies are weaned in seven or eight weeks. While I was there, I left a small metal cage so the family could stay together more safely. The dog has not tried to bother them yet but we are not taking any chances. I also left some k9 glucosamine chews for the dog, because I forgot to do so on Saturday. When I left that location, I drove to the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside. I needed to speak to the companion of a dog that is scheduled for 'the works' on Wednesday and another that needs it's vaccinations updated to remain in the kennels there. She still did not have a solid ride worked out so I am hoping for the best. From there, I went to University and Victoria. The companion of a dog had texted me earlier so I went to visit and provide a few supplies. When I hit 90 degrees, I decided to make one final stop at our PO Box, before calling it a day. My tire still had not come in so the plan is to get it put on tomorrow and if there is time afterwards, I will follow up with my daily travels. If not, then I will take the day off but I am hoping that is not the case... Bottled waters, flavored drink packets, K9 glucosamine chews, small bag of senior dog food, chicken jerky treats, large bag of jerky treats, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, 2 medium sized squeaky kong balls, bully stick, pig's ears, kabob chew sticks and buffalos tendons were shared.
Even though the 'Line Fire' is about 20 miles from here, the smell of smoke was definitely in the air this morning.. That in addition to triple digit temperatures today made me want to stay inside. However, I had already committed to meeting someone so I went out anyway. As soon as I arrived at that first stop, the companion of the kitties asked me what was in my tire. I asked her what she meant. She said she heard a clicking sound when I pulled in. I looked at the tire reading on my dash and sure enough, one was down to thirty. Upon further inspection, we saw there was a huge bolt in it. After I gave the woman the supplies she needed, I headed to the tire shop where they (unfortunately) know me well. That tire could not be repaired and since it had been plugged three times already, they would not have done so anyway. They ordered me a new tire and put my spare on. I was just going to go back home but there was someone I wanted to speak to in Rubidoux so I drove out there. He was not around but I was not too far from the Rancho Jurupa Regional Park where a family we provide services for was for the week-end. They live in an RV and just updated the tags so they were able to get a campsite there. I visited with five of their eight pets and provided a few supplies. I called it a day but made one last stop at the store for produce. I am not sure if I will be doing my daily travels tomorrow. Part of that depends on what time the new tire comes in. I am just grateful to be safely back to my air conditioned home. I will continue thinking about those evacuating the fires and working hard to put them out... Bottled waters, protein shakes, small bag of kitten food, wet kitten food, 2 boxes of Wellness wet cat food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, cat toy, Inaba Juicy Bites, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Churus, pig's ears and beef collagen sticks with chicken wrap were shared.
My first stop was at the Palm View Motel in Rubidoux. I went there to bring supplies for a fourteen year old dog that I had not seen in quite some time. While I was there, his companion was telling me about a stray kitty that had been hanging around for months. Yesterday, it ran into her room and gave birth to a litter of kittens in her closet. She buried herself and her babies in there so we are not sure how many there are but will keep an eye on it. The cat is a beautiful and friendly. I am hoping we are able to get her spayed, once the babies are weaned, and find rescue for all of them. I realize that is a nearly impossible order to fill but it won't stop me from trying….When I left the motel, I drove out to a river bottom outlet in an industrial area of Jurupa Valley. I was supposed to meet a couple of people with their dogs. When I was a few blocks away from the meeting place, I saw a couple pushing what looked like a senior dog in a stroller. I pulled over to talk to them. The dog is 17 and not neutered but I am unsure if he is in good enough health to even attempt that. He has a ten year old son living with him as well but the dog was at their encampment. I gave the couple a few supplies and then headed to where my meeting place was supposed to be but nobody bothered to show up. They did not contact me either. Once again, I wasted time and fuel driving around in the heat for people who did not have the courtesy to do something they agreed to yesterday. I drove up and down a few nearby streets but had no luck. As I was driving up Fleetwood to leave, I spotted one of the companion's of 'Batman' walking towards me so I pulled over for a visit with them. From there I stopped at our PO Box and then got home a little before lunch time. On my way home, I received a text that a guy who had a total of 19 puppies and dogs, left the river bottom and did not take any of the dogs with him. There was not much I could do to help with that so I suggested calling the police to report the person who abandoned them and hope that animal control might get involved. None of them are spayed or neutered and all are related. This can only can worse, if they stay down there... Bottled waters, protein shakes, REPEL bug repellant, collapsible pet dish, kitty litter box, kitty litter, cat toy, Wellness wet cat food, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, plush squeaky dog toy, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, small bag of senior dog food, small bag of small bites dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Rolls, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats, YAK cheese stick buffalo tendons, kabob chew stick and bully stick were shared.
I only got about three hours of sleep last night so between that and the heat, I was not looking forward to my daily travels. However, I went out anyway and made my first and only stop by the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside. I met a gentleman who recently became homeless and was sitting with his two dogs. One needs her vaccinations updated, in order to stay in the kennels, and the other needs 'the works'. I gave him a few supplies and my contact card, in hopes of providing them with those services. While I was there, I also visited with a kitty and a puppy. The kitty did not need anything but the puppy did so I gave her a few supplies and then began driving around different areas of the eastside. I did not have any luck there, in Rubidoux or at a few locations in Jurupa Valley. When it hit 90 degrees, I decided to make one last stop at the post office, before heading home. I am thankful I did as there was a package waiting for us there. When I got home, I unpacked the box, made a few personal and business calls and then went to meet a friend for lunch.... Bottled waters, 2small leashes, collapsible pet dish, Max and Neo Fleece blanket, wet puppy food, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and Inaba Churu Bites were shared.
The two pets that received 'the works' belong to a couple who received emergency housing and are in a motel on the west side. Because they are already indoors, I did not need to get them a room but I still wanted to check on them. On my way to visit them, I spotted a vehicle and saw a familiar dog running around outside of it so I took a little detour for a visit. I had offered them a motel room, for last night, but the gentleman did not have a phone to call me and set it up. I told him I will reserve a room tonight, if he gets one today and if not then another day next week. This heat wave seems like it is here to stay for a bit so I am sure the room will be a welcome break whenever he can take advantage of the offer. When I left that location, I drove out to the motel. I visited with the two dogs that were spayed and neutered as well as two other dogs at the motel. We had not hit triple digits yet but it was definitely heating up. I was not sure if I would make any more stops, until I knew how long I would be at Kaiser. My reason for going today was to get my hand x-rayed. I also got a flu shot on my out. I wasn't there for all that long but I needed to get back home by 11am and was not sure if I could make that happen if I looked for more people with pets so I just went to our PO Box to pick up some donations that I knew were there. I got home right at 11am and I was thankful to be able to get out and stay out of the heat. This weather is brutal and I hope all of those we serve are doing ok... Bottled waters, chicken jerky treats, Yak cheese stick, bully sticks, kabob chew sticks XL Kong squeaky ball and Inaba Churu Bites were shared.
Between the miscommunications, a pet passing away and the inability to reach people, we only had two pets getting 'the works' today. Both were at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. Their Healthy Pet Zone Fund paid for one of their services. Even though there were just two pets, any day we can get even one pet spayed/neutered is a good day. I am grateful for the two that made it and thankful that they were on time as well. After we got them checked in, I went home for a bit and then went out again to drop off edible gifts to a Sgt. And ACO who are always willing to lend a hand when I reach out for help. I also had to go to our storage units and run a few errands. When that was done, it was time to get out of the heat and go home for lunch. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter." Bottled waters, ARCO fuel card, small bag of puppy food, wet puppy food and Inaba Churu Bites were shared.
Today is supposed to be the day 'Loba' comes off of owner hold. She is the dog that belongs to the gentleman who was found unresponsive, went by ambulance to the ICU and has been in the hospital ever since. He is no longer in ICU but is still unable to communicate, according to the social worker, and we still have not found anyone who knows if he has family in the area. It is all so sad and I have emailed three of my contacts at Riverside County Animal Services inquiring what the next step should be. It is highly unlikely her companion is going to recover enough to take her back and I want to be sure this dog is not euthanized. I will update when I have updates to share. I was not all that productive today in finding people with pets to visit. I drove around downtown and all through Fairmount Park. I also went back to an industrial area in Jurupa Valley to see if I could find out more information on some of the people who used to stay in the Grand Terrace field encampment. The woman I spoke to is going to get word to some of the others so I can figure out when to meet up with them with supplies. When I left that location, I drove to the nearest freeway onramp and went out by Agate Park in Jurupa Valley. I visited with five of the pets there and provided a few supplies. From there, I made a quick stop at home and then went to meet one of my oldest and dearest friends for lunch... Bottled waters, cat toy, Inaba Churus, chicken jerky treats, collagen sticks wrapped in chicken, squeaky Kong balls, buffalo tendons and a small harness/leash set were shared.
I made arrangements to meet someone with his dog by the Walgreen's, at the Jurupa Valley Spectrum, this morning. He was not there so I texted and called. I waited a few more minutes and called again. He said he had overslept and asked if I could meet him in thirty minutes. I said 'no', because I was on my way out to one of the river bottom outlets in an industrial area of Jurupa Valley. I told him I would text him when I was done and would meet with him afterwards, as long as I had time. After driving to two different locations, visiting with three dogs and providing supplies, I knew I had time to meet with the gentleman who overslept. I needed to run into Dollar Tree to pick up a variety of pet dishes so I asked him to meet me there. He arrived before I did. I visited with his dog and provided him with a few supplies, before going into the store. I go through so many small, medium and large stainless steel pet dishes and collapsible pet bowls with leash clips. Dollar Tree usually has them and they are more than affordable there. They did not have too much of a selection today but I picked up a few and will check back in the near future... Bottled waters, protein shakes, Benadryl caplets, socks, large trash bags, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Churu Rolls, chicken jerky treats, buffalo tendons, bully sticks and plush squeaky toy were shared.
Today is the first day of a new month so I looked back to see how many pets we were able to provide 'the works' for in August. We had a number of 'no shows' but still managed to spay and neuter 12 pets. We had 9 dogs and 3 cats. There were 8 female dogs, 2 female cats, 1 male dog and 1 male cat. Hoping that September is a bit more productive but grateful for the twelve that will not or will no longer be adding to pet overpopulation in the homeless community or our community at large... I changed my Sunday routine a bit, because some people were in need of supplies and because I wanted to visit a couple of dogs that are only available for visits on Sunday…My first stop was at Fairmount Park, under the shade trees, across from the Legion Hall. My second stop was on the Eastside but not near the homeless shelter. I visited with and distributed supplies for six pets. Sadly, I also got news that one of the dog's I was supposed to have neutered, on Wednesday, passed away. He had been having seizures and he did not recover from this one. He was young and I am sorry he passed but thankful he will no longer be suffering... Bottled waters, protein shakes, large bag of recyclables, large trash bags, bag of Kismet dog food, small bag of adult dog food, small bag of senior dog food, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba tuna fillets, Inaba chicken fillets, chicken jerky treats, k-9 glucosamine chews, bully sticks and kabob chew sticks were shared.
