Here is a little summary of our spay/neuter services for the month of September. We have continued to cut back but still got 16 pets done, thanks to a Birthday Fundraiser where someone doubled most of what we raised. There were a total of 8 dogs and 8 cats. We did five male dogs, three female dogs, 4 male cats and four female cats... There was rain in the forecast today so I wasn't sure if that was going to interfere with my daily travels. The skies were clear when I left my house so I figured I would try to get to the two locations I needed to visit. The first stop was in Colton. When I was finished there, I drove to Fairmount Park. Because of the event going on, I was unable to drive through the park but I did stop for someone who was parked in the lot by the old National Guard building. I was there to visit his dog but when he opened the van, a puppy came out too. He said some guy was at the park and he was going to dump the litter if people did not take them. I really wish Animal Control was there during some of these times. The homeless almost always take one or two, because they are worried they might die otherwise. The person who had the puppy today is not sure if he will even keep her but agreed to let me spay her whether he does or not. When I left there, I ran a couple of personal errands, stopped at our PO Box and made it home without having been rained on. I will most likely be taking the day off tomorrow to visit with family but will be back out on Monday... Waters, pet ear wash, pet water trough, small bag of puppy food, wet dog food, wet puppy food, chicken and duck jerky treats, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus, NUBZ chews, Inaba Fun Bites, bully sticks and plush squeaky toys were shared.
I have not had to set an alarm for many years. I wake on and off and then usually get out of bed around 5:30 or 6:00am. I woke up at four but did not want to start my day that early so I closed my eyes. The next time I opened them it was 7:30am. I cannot recall the last time I slept in that late. I think I was emotionally exhausted from the stress of the pregnant dog I was trying to and successfully got help for right before the puppies were born. In any case, I hate to hurry and I had a lot to do. My plans included going to the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside at 9am and then meeting someone by University and Victoria before heading over to one of the river bottom outlets by 10am. I also needed to go to our storage units and check our PO Box. Thankfully, I was able to make it all happen. I had hoped to look for someone whose dogs are impounded and she is on the Eastside as well but there just wasn't enough time. I will have to wait until next week... Waters, large bag of recyclables, three dog beds, stainless steel pet dish, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, four small bags of senior dog food, wet dog food, chicken and duck jerky treats, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Mega Churus, Inaba Churus, NUBZ chews, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks and glow in the dark squeaky ball were shared.
I went to the motel this morning to check on one of the dog's and the two cats that received 'the works' yesterday as well as 'Lady' and her litter. We did not need a room for the second dog. I am not sure why the couple with the cats never checked in, because their phone was not on to ask them... The good thing is that everything went great with the pets that I did spend time with. The new mama and her litter were picked upby their foster. They all got checked out and then went to their foster home where they are now settled in. I visited a dog that belongs to the woman who has been caring for the pregnant dog as well as a dog that got spayed yesterday and her 'fur sister'. Thirteen years ago today, I rescued a dog off of the streets. This morning, I got to watch a dog and her litter get taken somewhere to start new lives. I feel so grateful for the part I played in facilitating the rescue and foster. The dog may have lost her owner but once she weans her babies, they will all find loving homes. That is a priceless gift... Waters, ARCO fuel card, Denny's gift card, large collar and leash set, chicken and duck jerky treats, plush squeaky toy, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Mega Churus, NUBZ chews, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
What a day this turned out to be! I have been trying to spay/neuter a couple of dogs in Rubidoux for quite some time now. I finally found someone who was willing to do the transporting and we were working on a plan for today. However, last night I found out that it was not going to happen. The person was still willing to drive but the companion of the dogs had to move her belongings again and she was not ready for us to make it happen today. I was very disappointed and have not totally given up but I am sorry these dogs still won't receive our services... Around 3:45am, a text came in from someone whose dog is getting neutered this morning. She is a Veteran that was referred to us by Michael with 'Working Dogs For Warriors'. She was coming all the way from Baldwin Park and needed the address. At 6am she told me she had arrived. She wanted to be sure to miss the traffic. I told her I would see her around 7:45am and suggested places nearby she might go to get some coffee or something to eat. We got her dog checked in as well as another dog that had an appointment and then I headed home. I was there for a very short time when a call came in that the cats and their companion had already arrived at the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. I went to the clinic, made sure all of the paperwork was turned in and then drove out to Kaiser. As I was walking back to my vehicle, I received a call from the person caring for the pregnant dog. She said the puppies were born early this morning. I had not intended to go back to the park today but wanted to see how mama and babies were doing. I stopped at our PO Box to pick up some donations and then drove out to the park. I left a few supplies for them to use in the park and tonight at the motel. Tomorrow morning, mama and babies will be going to stay with a foster. At some point, all will be available for adoption through the Mary S Robert's Pet Adoption Center. I cannot express how grateful I am that I was able to play a part in their being rescued. I knew the odds were against finding help but I made the effort anyway and it paid off in a wonderful way! "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Waters, ARCO fuel cards, chicken and duck jerky treats, puppy pads, fleece blanket Tiller Tugs squeaky tug toy and bully sticks were shared.
I has an appointment at 8am and then had to get air in my tires so I got started a little later than I usually do. I had two main objective today. The first was to find the companion of a male and female dog that need 'the works'. The second was to go to the park to check on the pregnant dog and let her caretaker know we would be putting them in a motel room for a couple of nights. I also told her that I reached out to the Director of the Mary S. Robert's Pet Adoption Center about the possibility of them taking the dog. I was told they would look into it and that an email was sent out for a foster. Thankfully, I had spoken to Tracy Bowen and she mentioned that she offered to do the fostering. She fostered 'Chance' the deaf pit puppy awhile back. Late this morning, I learned that there was a plan in place. On Thursday morning, I will meet Tracy at the motel. She will drive the dog to the Adoption Center and if all goes well, they will make her a part of their adoption program. I try not to reach out for help, unless it is really needed. That is certainly the case here as the dog's companion was murdered and she seems ready to give birth very soon. I will follow her progress and update where possible... Waters, body wipes, chicken and duck jerky treats, glow in the dark squeaky ball and bully sticks were shared.
Let me start by saying that I would like to put the pregnant dog and the person caring for her in a motel room while we search for a rescue. Please Donate and/or Share. Thank You. PayPal or Zelle: streetkindness@aol.com... Today is Yom Kippur ~ it is the last of the ten days of penitence that begin with Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year). I did not go to the Synagogue but I did go out for a short while. I made a quick stop at the Path of Life Community Shelter and then stopped to visit a dog I saw with some people a few blocks away. The companion said he did not want to spay the dog so I left there pretty quickly as well. My last stop was the main reason I went out today. I went to check on the pregnant dog who lost her companion and did another video clip trying to get some help. When I left the park, I drove across town to drop off baked goods for a break the fast dinner tonight and then headed home... Waters, body wipes, Flys Off spray, neon squeaky ball, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Nubz chews, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Fun Bites, chicken and duck jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
I never made it out to the encampment in Colton yesterday so I made sure to get there today. I visited with nine puppies and dogs. I had met all but one and that one is getting scheduled for 'the works'. We visited and I distributed needed supplies to the companions. I had to go to storage, in order to pick up a few more large bags of dog food, cat food, treats and waters. As soon as I was done at the first location, I drove to the nearest freeway onramp and headed to our units. I loaded my vehicle and then made a stop at Alin Party. While I was there, I received a phone call confirming that the companion of the dog that had been tied up at the park came to get her. She had not been aware of what happened to the person who had been caring for the dog. That just leaves finding a rescue for the pregnant dog. I spoke to Labradors and Friends last night. They are looking for a foster. If they are able to find one, the pregnant dog should be able to go to the rescue. If that happens. We will be trying to get donations for them as a pregnant dog can be costly... Waters, Max and Neo small dog collar, small leash, neon squeaky ball, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Nubz chews, Inaba Twins for dogs, wet dog food, wet puppy food, 2 small bags of puppy food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Juicy Bites, Inaba Fun Bites, Inaba Churu Rolls, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
Today started off on a very sad note. I wasn't sure how I would be feeling after having a tooth extracted yesterday, but I was thankful that the discomfort was minimal. However, my plans to go to Colton got put on hold until tomorrow so I could try to help with a bit of a crisis... At 6:30am, I received a text that someone in the river bottom had been murdered. His pregnant dog was left without a companion. He also happened to have a friend's dog with him and she was found tied to a tree. She is not very people or dog friendly so we are hoping to find her companion, before the dog winds up in the shelter. We rarely look for rescue but are in this case due to the fact that a pet's companion is gone. She is pregnant and being passed around in the river bottom is not a good thing for her. I drove to Fairmount Park and met with the person who is temporarily holding on to the pregnant dog as well as the dog whose companion we are looking for. She has a large dog of her own and will not be able to do this for much longer so I really hope we can get help for the pregnant dog. At 1:30 this afternoon, I got a call back from the friend of the companion of 'Sammy'. She is going to find her and go get the dog so that is one I don't need to worry about now... I spent some time with the two dogs mentioned as well as four others that were at the park with their companions. In addition, a woman whose dogs were impounded a couple of days ago showed up and asked me what to do next to get her dogs released. I made a call to one of the staff at Riverside County Animal Services. I gave her some information and got some that was given to their companion. One of the dogs was not spayed yet. We were actually working on that, before they were impounded. I agreed to pay for the spay, microchip, vaccinations, flea & tick treatment and license. The impound fees, boarding and fines will have to worked out when the companion goes to the shelter. When I left the park, I went to our PO Box and then called it a day... Waters, ARCO fuel card, pet ear cleaner, Flys Off, doggie waste bags, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Nubz chews, Inaba Twins for dogs, wet dog food, Inaba Mega Churus, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
My first stop of the day was in the parking lot of the Path of Life Community Shelter where I visited two pets and distributed supplies. From there I drove to Hunter Park where I visited one dog and distributed supplies. When I left that location, I began driving around the Eastside looking for the companion of a couple of dogs that were impounded. I was unable to find her but when I stopped to visit another pet I left a message to have the woman contact me. I drove around for a little while longer but had to cut things short so I could get to a dental appointment. Depending on how things go there, will decide what I am or am not going to be doing tomorrow. LOL... Waters, Inaba Fun Bites, Nubz chews, Inaba Twins for dogs, small bag of dog food for small dogs, 2 small bags of dog food, Inaba Mega Churus, Inaba Churus, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
I was only out for about two hours today but I managed to accomplish everything I needed to and then some. The dog that received 'the works' yesterday had somewhere to stay so they did not need a motel. I still wanted to check on him so his family brought him to meet me in the parking lot of Riverside County Animal Services. When I left that location, I drove up the street to Jurupa and Vam Buren. I visited with a dog there and asked about a puppy I had heard was in the area with his companion. The gentleman knew who I was talking about but said the companion was arrested and the puppy went to the shelter. My next stop was the Jurupa Valley Motel6. We did not have any pets recuperating there but I did rent a room for another pet last night. His name is 'EZ' and I have known him since he was a puppy. His companion is moving out of state this week-end. I wanted them to have a safe comfortable night and it also gave me an opportunity to see him before they leave. When I left the motel, I drove to Rubidoux looking for the companion of two dogs we are supposed to spay and neuter on Wednesday. She has moved around three times in the past week but I did finally find her on Mission Blvd. She no longer has a phone and is not sure where she will be from day to day so this is going to be a challenge. Someone volunteered to drive her but there are many things we need to work out. I am hoping we can especially since the woman said she wanted the little dog to have one litter. While there, I visited with her two dogs, another that was in the area and distributed supplies. I had something delivered to our PO Box and was going to pick it up when I remembered that I saw a familiar car earlier in a nearby parking lot. I knew there was a gentleman and his dog living in that vehicle so I made a little detour and went to visit them first. After our visit, I stopped at the PO Box. Unfortunately in addition to my package, there was another Grant denial waiting for me too. The second one in two weeks. I just have to keep the faith that something will materialize for us... Waters, Inaba Fun Bites, Nubz chews, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, small bag of dog food for small dogs, individual bag of jerky treats, individual bag of beef treats, large stainless steel dish, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
At 10pm last night, I received a text from the companion of two cats that were supposed to receive 'the works' today. She said their vehicle broke down and they were not going to make it this morning. At 7am, I made an early call to someone whose cats are supposed to get spayed/neutered on October 12th. I told her she could have the appointments, of she was able to make it in time. She said she would get back to me. At 7:45am, I arrived at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services to meet the companion of a dog we scheduled for 'the works'. She was there on time and I left there around 8:30. I did not have to be at the second clinic until 9:15 so that gave me a few minutes to go home. While I was there, I received a call from the companion of a puppy that had an appointment to be spayed this morning. He said his ride fell through. I was already frustrated about the woman with the cats and now this. It was too late to call anyone on the waiting list so I called the woman who I spoke to at 7am. I told her she could have that appointment too. Thankfully, she said she did. Cutting back on spaying and neutering due to funds is one thing but wasting appointments is something that I have a hard time dealing with. In the end, we still provided services for four pets but I would have like to have done that for the pets we actually had scheduled. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Waters, ARCO fuel cards, Clavamoxin, pet ear cleaner, puppy pads, wet cat food, Inaba chicken stew for cats, Inaba Fun Bites, Nubz chews, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
Before going by the downtown Salvation Army, I drove through Fairmount Park. I did not find the people and pets I was looking for but did see a few others so I made sure to stop and visit. When I left the park, I drove to the Salvation Army but there were no people there with pets. I needed to go out to our storage units so I tried contacting a couple of people that were pretty much on my way. I was not able to meet up with them this week-end but I did not have any luck today either. I did have an opportunity to drop off a bag of baked goods and cat toys where Ralph Torres wife works. He has been volunteering his time to maintain on website, since the beginning of Taking It To The Streets with Lori and Shira. He has never let me pay him so the sweets are a small token of my appreciation. After dropping off the goodie bag, I went to our storage units and loaded my vehicle with pet food, pet treats, waters and canned goods for the companions. I was literally one mile from my home when I saw the street was closed off due to a bad accident. Thankfully, this was just a fifteen minute detour so I did not spend too much time sitting in traffic. I was able to get to our PO Box and grab a couple of items I forgot at the store yesterday... Waters, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Fun Bites, Nubz chews, kabob chew sticks, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
Before I began my daily travels, I went to the store. When I was driving through the parking lot, I saw a gentleman with three pit bulls. I had seen him before but at that time he had two and not three. I found a place to park and got out to speak to the companion. The dogs are a mother and her two one year old babies. One male and one female. None of them are spayed or neutered and the mother had another litter not too long ago. Once again, I offered to provide these dogs with 'the works'. I offered before but he never contacted me. I will continue trying and hope none of the females get pregnant in the mean time and that the male doesn't father any litters. When I left that location, I went home for a short time and then headed to the Eastside. I stopped at the Path of Life Community Shelter where I visited with three pets and distributed supplies. While I was there, I received a text from a couple needing dog food. They were not too far away from the shelter so I drove there next. I had planned to go to our storage units afterwards but realized I would not make it in time for a counseling appointment if I did. If I have the time, I will do my best to get there tomorrow... Waters, doggie waste bags, Inaba Twins for dogs, wet dog food, Inaba Fun Bites, 2 small bags of dog food, Nubz chews, kabob chew sticks, chicken jerky treats, bully slices and bully sticks were shared.
Yesterday, I saw what looked like a pile of things that might belong to a homeless woman I recently lost track of. I found her a ride so her dogs can get spayed/neutered but then I could not find her. On my way to Fairmount Park this morning, I stopped on Rubidoux Boulevard to see if it was her and it was. I explained that we had a date picked out and that someone might be stopping by to discuss the transporting. The phone number she had given me was not right. She gave me another number but said her phone is not charged so I guess I will have to continue looking for her, until the day of her appointment. When I left that location, I headed to the park. I found a gentleman I was looking for this past week. After giving him and his dog supplies, I called someone else I was supposed to meet there. He was back by the legion so we met there. I also met with someone else. She had her dog and someone else's pregnant dog with her. Once again, people are not taking advantage of getting these river bottom dogs spayed/neutered, until after they have had one or more litters. It is frustrating but all I can do is continue to offer the services and hope they will e``1ventually take me up on it. As I was driving home, I saw someone on Mission Blvd. with her dog. I pulled in for a visit but wound up getting into an argument with the dog's companion over something she has neglected to do for the dog. I told her that if she does not take care of it, I will be calling Animal Control nest time. I am always willing to educate people but if they do not do what is right for the pet I will call for a well check on the animal. I prefer to avoid doing that but if that is the only thing that will work I will do it anyway. I went home after that for a few minutes before going to meet Christine Ramirez for lunch. She has not volunteered with me in a long time so I enjoy catching up over a meal... Waters, body wipes, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Fun Bites, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, wet dog food, Nubz chews, kabob chew sticks, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
One pet in Riverside and seven pets in Colton received visits and needed supplies. I distributed supplies for a few other pets too. I was debating on whether or not I would go out but I finally gave myself permission. The reason I was debating is because today is Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year). For many years I have been at the Synagogue with my family. Once our family unit was no longer living under the same roof, things changed. It is not the same for me to go without them. Sometimes I check out a zoom service but it doesn't feel the same. That being said, nothing can take away the lessons I learned and the kind of person I was taught to be. Those lessons came from my home as well as my religious education and experiences. Even though I was not in the Synagogue to celebrate our New Year, I was out on the streets carrying out a word I have tattooed on my right wrist. That is Tzedakah which is translated to mean charitable giving which is seen as a moral obligation I am both happy and grateful to be able to take part in. It doesn't take the place of gathering with friends and family to celebrate High Holidays but I do feel I am 'practicing what I've been preached' and I am ok with that... Waters, Large Bag of Recyclables, Twins for dogs, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Fun Bites, Inaba Churu Pops, Inaba Juicy Bites, Inaba Mega Churus, Inaba Churus, 2 large bags of dog treats, 2 small bags of dog food for small dogs, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Simply Cesar Chicken for dogs, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for cats, wet cat food, wet puppy food, small bag of puppy food, kabob chew sticks, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
I have been trying to find transportation to get a woman and her two dogs from Rubidoux to the spay/neuter clinic, to the motel and then back to her 'spot'. I finally made arrangements and tried to call the number she gave me. That number came up as a non working number, even though she said her phone is on. On my way to the Eastside, I drove to where I have seen her the past couple of weeks but she was not there so I decided to check out the area on my way back home. I went to the Path of Life Community shelter but nobody was outside with pets so I drove to Hunter Park. I was told some people were there with their dogs but they were not. I drove around the Eastside and pulled into the parking lot on Iowa by the old K-Mart. There was a van with someone inside and I know her dog so I knocked on the window. The dog wanted to visit but her companion wanted to sleep. As I was getting ready to leave, I saw a gentleman with a puppy. I drove over to where they were and gave the companion my card for when he wants services. I visited with the puppy and he enjoyed the chicken jerky treats as well as a kabob chew stick. He was not interested in the new ball while there were goodies to eat. I was near the Path of Life Community shelter and thought I would drive there one more time. On my way, I spotted a dog I had not seen in months. He was sitting in the grass with a woman and another dog. I pulled into a nearby parking lot for a visit. The one dog needs spayed but the companion does not have a phone or transportation so I am hoping to help her work something out. When I went back past the shelter, nobody was outside with pets so I continued on to Fairmount Park. I haven't been able to find the gentleman that called me last week for dog food. I went through the entire park but his van was not there. I did see someone else I know and I stopped briefly to give her pets some treats. On my way to our PO Box, I drove through Rubidoux. I went up and down a few streets and checked some areas I sometimes see homeless people but the person I was looking for was nowhere to be found. I can't even count the number of people who ask me to spay and neuter but are unreachable when an appointment opens up. I still have a week to find the person I was looking for today but even if I find her, there is no telling if she will be where I need her to be on an appointment day... Waters, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churu Bites, Inaba Fun Bites, small squeaky Kong balls, medium and large stainless steel pet dishes, collapsible pet dish, small bag of dog food, kabob chew sticks, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
Last night, I texted the person who brought one of the pets for 'the works' yesterday. He was bringing the dog for a friend. She stays at the Path of Life but had to have surgery. The dog needed to get our services so he could stay at the kennels when she returns. The agreement was that her friend would spend the night at the motel so I could check the dog this morning. When the gentleman had not yet checked in by 7pm, I texted him. He said he had to go to work and might not make it. I told him if that was the case then I needed him to bring the dog to the motel this morning. Not only did he not show up, but he didn't even return any of my text messages. I hope the dog does not have any issues because if he does it will be on his owner to handle it now. I still had two rooms to check on but only one had not checked out yet. The other person had to leave early so I wasn't able to look at her pet. Thankfully, she is a responsible person and will make sure I am able to do that. She has had many pets spayed and neutered so she also knows what to do and any 'trouble signs' to look for. I was able to visit with 'Buddy' and he was in a room with his feline brother that we provided 'the works' for a year or so ago. I had a personal appointment to get to but still had a little bit of free time so I contcted someone I had not seen in awhile and then went to visit. I am glad I did. I found out they are going to be moving to Florida in a week or so. I have known the dog since he was about 8 weeks old and will be sorry to see him go but thankful he will be living indoors when he does... Waters, canned spaghetti with meatballs, cracker packs, tuna snack pack, vienna sausages, small bag of cat food, Inaba Twins for cats, Inaba Churu Pops, Nubz chews, individual bag of chicken jerky treats, plush squeaky toy, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
The clinic at the Department of Animal Services was closed to us for surgeries today so I scheduled four pets for the Mary S. Robert's Clinic. One of the pets was squeezed in, because Animal Control had already given a warning for the three dogs being kept on someone's property. I agreed to spay/neuter two of them and we were supposed to do the first one today. At 8am I received a text saying his companion could not get a ride. Once again, someone let me know last minute and an appointment was wasted. I always ask them to be sure they have a back up plan but most don't or can't. Thankfully, the other three pets scheduled showed up on time. When I left the clinic, I stopped to visit a dog over by Jurupa and Van Buren, stopped at our PO Box and then headed home. My daughter had the day off and she picked me up so we could go to lunch and spend some time together at my house. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Waters, ARCO fuel cards, ear cleaner, puppy pads, small bag of puppy food, small bag 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, doggie waste bags, Tiller Tugs squeaky tug, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
Last week, I received a call from someone who needed a large bag of dog food. I told him I would not have any large bags until Monday the 11th and could bring him one today. He said that would be great and that I could find him at Fairmount Park. On my way there, I made two stops in Rubidoux. The first was to speak to the woman whose male and female puppies need a ride to get 'the works'. When I arrived, there was just one dog there and he was tangled up in his leash. His companion was fast asleep, under some blankets and it took me a few minutes yelling her name for her to wake up. She did not know where the other dog was which upset me. A few minutes later, a woman came down the street with the second dog. She said she saw her going out in the street and took her home to give her some water. I left my card and said to call me if that continues to happen. In the mean time, it is possible that someone living on that street might be able to get the two puppies to the clinic if I fix his kitten. I think I have the rides covered but it is a good plan if we need it. When I left that location, I got back on Mission Blvd. I spotted a couple with a dog that used to live in the river bottom and then moved indoors but it was obvious they were back on the street. I drove up the street, did a u-turn and went back to speak to them. We visited and I gave them supplies before getting back on the road to go to the park. I drove all around the park but never found the person who asked for the dog food. I did see someone else I knew and stopped to visit with her pets. When I left the park, I got on the freeway to go home but found myself making a trip to Costco instead. I am not a fan of going to the store but I needed a couple of things I cannot find anywhere else. After Costco, I went to the Ralphs in Eastvale to pick up another itme I cannot find in other grocery stores and I also bought a few plant based frozen entrees for the nights I don't feel like cooking. My final stop was the PO Box. I had an Amazon order to pick up, before making my way back home... Waters, stainless steel pet dish, plush squeaky toy, wet dog food, small bag of dog food, small bag of small bites dog food, Inaba Juicy Bites, Inaba Twins for dogs, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
I took the day off yesterday to go spend time with family but was back to my daily travels today. I went to the Path of Life Community Shelter on the Eastside and visited with two pets. I was planning on visiting with three others but was told their companions were kicked out of the shelter. I did drive around the Eastside hoping to find them but was unable. However, when I stopped to visit a dog by University and Victoria, I received a phone call. It was from a couple that has a dog as well as a puppy. The puppy is scheduled for 'the works' on the 20th. They were not too far away and close to where I needed to go while on my way to our storage units so I went to meet them. When we were done, I drove to the nearest freeway onramp and headed to our storage units. We were getting a pallet of water and our monthly Star Milling donation. Three of us unloaded the 84 cases of water and two of us unloaded the 570 pounds of pet food. I am thankful the morning rain turned out to be very light and we stayed dry through most of the unloading. Hoping this old lady is not too sore tomorrow... Waters, wet dog food, Repel bug repellent, 2 small bags of dog food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Fun Bites, chicken jerky treats, Inaba Churus, doggie waste bags with flashlight leash clip, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
I went to a homeless encampment in Colton this morning to visit with a few pets and to speak to someone whose puppy is supposed to receive 'the works' on Wednesday. There is a woman bringing her kitten to get 'the works' and she doesn't stay far from him. I asked her if she would give them a ride and she said yes. I did not have any information on the companion of the puppy so I got that today and reminded the gentleman to speak to the person driving to make sure they arrived on time for their appointments. On Monday, I will be receiving our monthly donation of pet food from the Star Milling Company but I am actually out of the 20 pound bags of dog food. The only people who asked me to stop by were those needing the larger bags so the only other stop I made was our PO Box. I am hoping to see my granddaughter tomorrow and if I do, I will not be doing my daily travels but will be back out on Monday... Waters, wet dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Fun Bites, chicken jerky treats, Inaba Churus and bully sticks were shared.
On my way to the Eastside this morning, I drove through Rubidoux. As I was going up Mission Blvd. I saw a few pets and their companions. I did not have time to stop but decided to check things out when I was done at the Path of Life Community Shelter. When I arrived at the shelter, I met with a couple of dogs I usually see weekly and a new dog that we are providing 'the works' for on Wednesday. When I left that location, I drove to University and Victoria to look for 'Solo' and his companion. They were in their usual spot so I stopped for a visit. When we were done, I headed back to Rubidoux. One of the people I was looking for had left the area but I did find a few more and visited with four more pets. Two of them need 'the works' but the woman cannot get a ride and I have not been able to arrange one for her yet. I am hoping to do that soon. By this time, it was starting to heat up so I didn't look for anymore people with pets but did go to our PO Box where I found the check from the Anonymous donor who recently matched our donations up to $2,300.00. I was very grateful to receive that!... Waters, collapsible pet dish, Tiller Tugs leash, Max and Neo dog collar, doggie waste bags with flashlight leash clip, squeaky Kong ball, small bag of dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Fun Bites, chicken jerky treats, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
I went to the Motel6 this morning to check on the pets that received 'the works' yesterday. While I was there, I got into an argument with a homeless woman who had a beautiful little pit bull puppy. She wanted supplies and as soon as I asked her if the dog was spayed she started yelling at me. She said no and that she will never be. She continued calling me names and saying nasty things and I continued giving supplies to the person I was in the parking lot with. It makes me so sad that my charity offers free services and people still want to pick a fight about how wrong it is to say/neuter someone's beloved baby....When I left the motel, I ran some errand and then stopped at the Jurupa Valley City Hall. I had to be home by 11am to meet someone that was finishing up some work there... Waters, kitty litter, doggie waste bags with flashlight leash clip, small bag of kitten food, collapsible pet dish, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
At 7:45am I arrived at the Riverside County Department of Animal Services spay/neuter clinic. We were providing 'the works' for two female dogs. Both were on time. I brought home made cookies for the clinic staff and for the ACO's. I gave the goodies to Sgt. Jason Sanders and one of the staff and then grabbed the paperwork for the dog's companions to fill out. One of the dogs was acting out and I borrowed a muzzle for her. Her companion said she was just scared but she is a large dog and I did not want to take any chances. She wound up being in heat so it was perfect timing to get her in this morning. When I left that location, I went home for about thirty minutes and then headed over to the Mary S. Robert's spay/neuter clinic. I called Actors and Others for Animals on my drive there and they gave me a pledge number. We were scheduled to provide services for a male dog and a male kitten but there were two kittens in the carrier. I went in and asked if we could add the second. They said yes so I had to call A&O back to update their pledge. When we went in for the exams, we found the kittens showed signs of ringworm and they had diarrhea. I did not find out about the later, until they called me to approve a fecal test. I had already approved a skin scrape for them and didn't really want to increase the bill any further but I still approved it. The dog has short legs so they wanted to do an IV catheter for him which is another charge I had not planned on. I really want to keep the spaying and neutering to 2 to 4 per week but sometimes things change due to the circumstances of the day and that was certainly the case today. "One by one we get them done, because the only way to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia in our shelters is to spay and neuter"... Waters, ARCO fuel cards, Canned pasta, canned soup, cracker packs, plush squeaky pet toy, wet kitten food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus, Inaba Fun Bites, Inaba 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats, bag of jerky treats, Nubz chews, kabob chew sticks, Max and Neo m/l dog collar, large leash, Tiller Tugs leash and a medium collar were shared.
Because I had a dental appointment this morning, I only planned to meet with one person and some of her pets. We made arrangements to meet at a river bottom outlet in an industrial area of Jurupa Valley. On my way there, I received a call from someone whose dog we provided services for, until they got housing in another city. When they come to town, we always try to get together for a visit. I was not sure that could happen today, unless they wanted to meet me where I was going. The dog's companion said they would be able to do that. When I arrived at the location, the person I was there to meet was not there and her phone went straight to voicemail. I texted someone else who has a camp nearby and she said she would check it out. It turned out that a dead battery was the reason for the no show. She wound up getting a jump and I waited for them. They arrived and the person I texted was with them too. There were a total of three dogs, a puppy and a kitten. Both of these women have cats at their camps (all of which we have spayed/neutered) so I made sure to give them food for the cats too. While we were visiting, the person who had come in to town with her dog pulled up. As soon as I was done with the first group, I visited with them. It is always nice catching up with people` and pets who have gotten housing but still take the time to keep in touch. I was running short on time so I went home, gave my dog his potty break and headed back out to the dentist... Waters, plush squeaky pet toy, small bag of kitten food, wet kitten food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus, Inaba Fun Bites, Inaba Twins for cats, 17 pound bag of cat food from the Star Milling Company, chicken jerky treats, bag of jerky treats, Nubz chews, kabob chew sticks, bully sticks, cat toys and kitty lasers were shared.
Before I share my daily travels, I want to shed light on a couple of issues. The first is people putting negative comments under a video or photo saying things like a pet needs to be surrendered or I should just take the animal away. Instead of asking questions or sending an email, they jump to conclusions and then blame me for not explaining the details of whichever pet they are concerned about. That happened recently with a dog I have known since she was 8 weeks old. I do not have the time or the energy to rehash every pets story each time I post them. I also won't tolerate negative comments when someone hasn't even bothered to find out what may or may not be going on. However, I will take the time to answer anyone who has an actual question about any pet that I post. I am out on the streets seven days a week visiting pets, distributing supplies and trying to look out for their welfare while educating their companion if needed. Accusing me of not being thorough is uncalled for, especially since I have been posting commentary about every pet for 11 and ½ years. In addition, Many people come to this page and have no idea what it is we do. They think we are looking for homes for all of the pets posted. I can't possibly address each and every post like that so I am hoping some of those people read this, check out our website and educate themselves. I am one person doing everything I can think of to improve the health and quality of life of the pets I visit. I always wish I could do more but I am doing the best I can... With today being a holiday, I wasn't sure if anyone would be outside at the Path of Life Community Shelter. I still took a drive to the Eastside to see for myself. Nobody was in the parking lot or even on the street so I continued driving over to Hunter Park. I did not find anyone with pets there either so I headed to Fairmount Park. I did not find who I was looking for but did meet someone new with her two dogs. I also visited with three other dogs that were there with their companion. I had planned on driving through Rubidoux too but I had a counseling appointment this morning and wanted to be sure I was not late for that. Tomorrow, I will have to limit my time as well, because I have a dentist appointment. Regardless of what I have to do, I normally try to go out even if it is only for an hour or two. The exception to that has to do with visits to my granddaughter. I don't get to visit her often but she will always be a priority... Waters, plush squeaky pet toy, small bag of small bites dog food, Inaba Twins for dogs, Inaba Churus, Inaba Fun Bites, chicken jerky treats, Nubz chews, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
Last night, I received a text from an Inaba employee who I meet every now and then. She brings donations to our storage units. She wanted to know if we might be able to meet today. I was just there yesterday and did not plan on going back until the 11th but there was no way I would turn down Inaba products. I told her we could meet, after I did my daily travels. My first stop of the day was at North Park. I went to meet the companions of three pets, visited with two others and distributed supplies. From there I drove to a location on the Eastside where I was hoping to find a couple of dogs I don't get too visit very often. They were there this morning so we were able to visit and I distributed supplies there too. When I left that location, I was on my way to our storage units to receive the Inaba donation when saw someone pushing a stroller up Chicago Avenue. There was a dog in that stroller and I recognized him. I pulled into a nearby parking lot and got out for a quick visit. Afterwards, I drove to the nearest freeway onramp and headed to our storage units. We received boxes of treats and toppers. All of the cats and dogs we visit love the Inaba products so I will be able to make plenty of tails wag over the next month or so... Waters, canned spaghetti, Max and Neo fleece blanket, body wipes, 2-20 pound bags of dog food from the Star Milling Company, small bag of dog food, wet dog food, Inaba Churu Rolls, Inaba Fun Bites, chicken jerky treats, Nubz chews, kabob chew sticks and bully sticks were shared.
On my way to our storage units this morning, I drove over to Jurupa and Van Buren. I was looking for someone I had not seen in awhile as well as the person who caused us to pay room damages at the motel. I found the gentleman with the dog I was looking for but not the person who left his room a mess. After a short visit, I headed to our storage units to pick up a few things, before I headed out to some homeless encampments in the Colton/Grand Terrace area. I visited with five more pets there, discussed neuter services for one of them and distributed needed supplies. It was not hot outside but it was sprinkling on and off as well as muggy so I was home by 11am where I continued doing the work I always have to do after I am done on the streets... Waters, small bag of puppy food, wet puppy food, Inaba Churus, Inaba Fun Bites, Inaba Twins dog, wet dog, 20 pound bag of dog food from the Star Milling Company, Nubz Chews, Tiller Tugs tug toy, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
I just found out that there are a number of Covid cases in all three of the homeless shelters. Even though I do not go inside, the people come out and bring pets. I had thought about taking a break and then remembered that I was on the streets throught the entire Pandemic and it seemed wrong to stop now... I had originally planned to go tot he motel this morning at check out but my morning filled up and I was unable to make it. I started on the Eastside. My main purpose was to bring the ashes of a dog we recently had cremated for someone after she was killed by a hit and run driver. While I was there, I visited with five dogs and distributed supplies for each of them. When I was on my way to the Eastside, I saw someone I had been looking for. He was walking downtown on Market Street with his dog. When I left the Path of Life Community Shelter parking lot, I drove back to the area where I had seen them. They were a little further up the street but still in the general vicinity. I drove around the block, found a place to park and got out for a visit. The dog's companion told me someone just stole a bunch of his belongings and he did not have any pet supplies. Before I left, I made sure he had some. From there, I took care of a couple of personal errands and made a final stop at our PO Box. I am never sure when a donation might come in so I try to check as many days as I can get over there. Nothing today but still glad I checked... Waters, 2 small bags of dog food, small bag of small bites dog food, small bag of puppy food, Inaba Twins dog, wet dog, Inaba Fun Bites, Inaba Churu Bites, Nubz Chews, collapsible pet dishes, chicken jerky treats and bully sticks were shared.
